Matthew 14
1 At that time Herod the tetrarch heard the fame of Jesus,
| ܒܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܙܒܢܐ ܫܡܥ ܗܪܘܕܤ ܛܛܪܪܟܐ ܫܡܥܗ ܕܝܫܘܥ |
2 and said to his servants, “This is John the Immerser, he rose from the dead, and because of this the mighty energies are working in him.”
| ܘܐܡܪ ܠܥܒܕܘܗܝ ܗܢܘ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܡܥܡܕܢܐ ܗܘ ܩܡ ܡܢ ܒܝܬ ܡܝܬܐ ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܚܝܠܐ ܡܤܬܥܪܝܢ ܒܗ |
3 For Herod having laid hold on John, bound him, and put him in prison, because of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife,
| ܗܘ ܓܝܪ ܗܪܘܕܤ ܐܚܕ ܗܘܐ ܠܝܘܚܢܢ ܘܐܤܪܗ ܘܐܪܡܝܗ ܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ ܡܛܠ ܗܪܘܕܝܐ ܐܢܬܬ ܦܝܠܝܦܘܤ ܐܚܘܗܝ |
4 for John was saying to him, “It is not lawful to you to have her,”
| ܐܡܪ ܗܘܐ ܠܗ ܓܝܪ ܝܘܚܢܢ ܕܠܐ ܫܠܝܛ ܕܬܗܘܐ ܠܟ ܐܢܬܬܐ |
5 and willing to kill him, he feared the multitude, because as a prophet they were holding him.
| ܘܨܒܐ ܗܘܐ ܠܡܩܛܠܗ ܘܕܚܠ ܗܘܐ ܡܢ ܥܡܐ ܕܐܝܟ ܕܠܢܒܝܐ ܐܚܝܕܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܠܗ |
6 But the birthday of Herod being kept, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod,
| ܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܒܝܬ ܝܠܕܗ ܕܗܪܘܕܤ ܪܩܕܬ ܒܪܬܗ ܕܗܪܘܕܝܐ ܩܕܡ ܤܡܝܟܐ ܘܫܦܪܬ ܠܗ ܠܗܪܘܕܤ |
7 after which with an oath he professed to give her whatever she might ask.
| ܡܛܠ ܗܢܐ ܒܡܘܡܬܐ ܝܡܐ ܠܗ ܕܢܬܠ ܠܗ ܟܠܡܕܡ ܕܬܫܐܠ |
8 And she, having been instigated by her mother, says, “Give me here on a plate the head of John the Immerser”;
| ܗܝ ܕܝܢ ܡܛܠ ܕܡܠܦܐ ܗܘܬ ܠܐܡܗ ܐܡܪܬ ܗܒ ܠܝ ܗܪܟܐ ܒܦܝܢܟܐ ܪܫܗ ܕܝܘܚܢܢ ܡܥܡܕܢܐ |
9 and the king was grieved, but because of the oaths and of those dining with him, he commanded [it] to be given;
| ܘܟܪܝܬ ܠܗ ܠܡܠܟܐ ܡܛܠ ܕܝܢ ܡܘܡܬܐ ܘܤܡܝܟܐ ܦܩܕ ܕܢܬܝܗܒ ܠܗ |
10 and having sent, he beheaded John in the prison,
| ܘܫܕܪ ܦܤܩܗ ܪܫܗ ܕܝܘܚܢܢ ܒܝܬ ܐܤܝܪܐ |
11 and his head was brought on a plate, and was given to the girl, and she brought [it] near to her mother.
| ܘܐܝܬܝ ܪܫܗ ܒܦܝܢܟܐ ܘܐܬܝܗܒ ܠܛܠܝܬܐ ܘܐܝܬܝܬܗ ܠܐܡܗ |
12 And his disciples having come, took up the body, and buried it, and having come, they told Jesus,
| ܘܩܪܒܘ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܫܩܠܘ ܫܠܕܗ ܩܒܪܘ ܘܐܬܘ ܚܘܝܘ ܠܝܫܘܥ |
13 and Jesus having heard, withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by Himself, and the multitudes having heard followed Him on land from the cities.
| ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܟܕ ܫܡܥ ܫܢܝ ܡܢ ܬܡܢ ܒܐܠܦܐ ܠܐܬܪܐ ܚܘܪܒܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܘܗܝ ܘܟܕ ܫܡܥܘ ܟܢܫܐ ܐܙܠܘ ܒܬܪܗ ܒܝܒܫܐ ܡܢ ܡܕܝܢܬܐ |
14 And Jesus having come forth, saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion on them, and healed their sick;
| ܘܢܦܩ ܝܫܘܥ ܚܙܐ ܟܢܫܐ ܤܓܝܐܐ ܘܐܬܪܚܡ ܥܠܝܗܘܢ ܘܐܤܝ ܟܪܝܗܝܗܘܢ |
15 and evening having come, His disciples came to Him, saying, “The place is desolate, and the hour has now past, let away the multitudes that, having gone into the villages, they may buy food for themselves.”
| ܟܕ ܗܘܐ ܕܝܢ ܪܡܫܐ ܩܪܒܘ ܠܘܬܗ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܐܬܪܐ ܚܘܪܒܐ ܗܘ ܘܥܕܢܐ ܥܒܪ ܠܗ ܫܪܝ ܟܢܫܐ ܕܐܢܫܐ ܕܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܠܩܘܪܝܐ ܘܢܙܒܢܘܢ ܠܗܘܢ ܤܝܒܪܬܐ |
16 And Jesus said to them, “They have no need to go away—you give them to eat.”
| ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܐ ܡܬܒܥܐ ܠܗܘܢ ܠܡܐܙܠ ܗܒܘ ܠܗܘܢ ܐܢܬܘܢ ܠܡܐܟܠ |
17 And they say to Him, “We have nothing here except five loaves and two fishes.”
| ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪܘ ܠܗ ܠܝܬ ܠܢ ܬܢܢ ܐܠܐ ܚܡܫ ܓܪܝܨܢ ܘܬܪܝܢ ܢܘܢܝܢ |
18 And He said, “Bring them to Me here.”
| ܐܡܪ ܠܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܐܝܬܘ ܐܢܘܢ ܠܝ ܠܗܪܟܐ |
19 And having commanded the multitudes to recline on the grass, and having taken the five loaves and the two fishes, having looked up to the sky, He blessed, and having broken, He gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples [gave] to the multitudes,
| ܘܦܩܕ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܠܡܤܬܡܟܘ ܥܠ ܐܪܥܐ ܘܫܩܠ ܗܢܘܢ ܚܡܫܐ ܠܚܡܝܢ ܘܬܪܝܢ ܢܘܢܝܢ ܘܚܪ ܒܫܡܝܐ ܘܒܪܟ ܘܩܨܐ ܘܝܗܒ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܘܗܢܘܢ ܬܠܡܝܕܐ ܤܡܘ ܠܟܢܫܐ |
20 and they all ate, and were filled, and they took up what was over of the broken pieces twelve hand-baskets full;
| ܘܐܟܠܘ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܘܤܒܥܘ ܘܫܩܠܘ ܬܘܬܪܐ ܕܩܨܝܐ ܬܪܥܤܪ ܩܘܦܝܢܝܢ ܟܕ ܡܠܝܢ |
21 and those eating were about five thousand men, apart from women and children.
| ܗܢܘܢ ܕܝܢ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܐܟܠܘ ܗܘܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܐܠܦܐ ܚܡܫܐ ܤܛܪ ܡܢ ܢܫܐ ܘܛܠܝܐ |
22 And immediately Jesus constrained His disciples to go into the boat, and to go before Him to the other side, until He might let away the multitudes;
| ܘܡܚܕܐ ܐܠܨ ܠܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܢܤܩܘܢ ܠܤܦܝܢܬܐ ܘܢܐܙܠܘܢ ܩܕܡܘܗܝ ܠܥܒܪܐ ܥܕ ܫܪܐ ܗܘ ܠܟܢܫܐ |
23 and having let away the multitudes, He went up to the mountain by Himself to pray, and evening having come, He was there alone,
| ܘܟܕ ܫܪܐ ܠܟܢܫܐ ܤܠܩ ܠܛܘܪܐ ܒܠܚܘܕܘܗܝ ܠܡܨܠܝܘ ܘܟܕ ܚܫܟܬ ܒܠܚܘܕܘܗܝ ܗܘܐ ܬܡܢ |
24 and the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.
| ܘܐܠܦܐ ܪܚܝܩܐ ܗܘܬ ܡܢ ܐܪܥܐ ܐܤܛܕܘܬܐ ܤܓܝܐܐ ܟܕ ܡܫܬܓܫܐ ܤܓܝ ܡܢ ܓܠܠܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܓܝܪ ܠܩܘܒܠܗ ܗܘܬ |
25 And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went away to them, walking on the sea,
| ܒܡܛܪܬܐ ܕܝܢ ܪܒܝܥܝܬܐ ܕܠܠܝܐ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܗܘܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܟܕ ܡܗܠܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ |
26 and the disciples having seen Him walking on the sea, were troubled, saying, “It is an apparition,” and from the fear they cried out;
| ܘܚܙܐܘܗܝ ܬܠܡܝܕܘܗܝ ܕܡܗܠܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ ܘܐܬܬܙܝܥܘ ܘܐܡܪܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܕܚܙܘܐ ܗܘ ܕܓܠܐ ܘܡܢ ܕܚܠܬܗܘܢ ܩܥܘ |
27 and immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage! I AM; do not be afraid.”
| ܗܘ ܕܝܢ ܝܫܘܥ ܒܪܫܥܬܗ ܡܠܠ ܥܡܗܘܢ ܘܐܡܪ ܐܬܠܒܒܘ ܐܢܐ ܐܢܐ ܠܐ ܬܕܚܠܘܢ |
28 And Peter answering Him said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the waters”;
| ܘܥܢܐ ܟܐܦܐ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܡܪܝ ܐܢ ܐܢܬ ܗܘ ܦܩܘܕ ܠܝ ܐܬܐ ܠܘܬܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ |
29 and He said, “Come”; and having gone down from the boat, Peter walked on the waters to come to Jesus,
| ܝܫܘܥ ܕܝܢ ܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܬܐ ܘܢܚܬ ܟܐܦܐ ܡܢ ܐܠܦܐ ܘܗܠܟ ܥܠ ܡܝܐ ܕܢܐܬܐ ܠܘܬ ܝܫܘܥ |
30 but seeing the vehement wind, he was afraid, and having begun to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”
| ܘܟܕ ܚܙܐ ܪܘܚܐ ܕܩܫܝܐ ܕܚܠ ܘܫܪܝ ܠܡܛܒܥ ܘܐܪܝܡ ܩܠܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܡܪܝ ܦܪܘܩܝܢܝ |
31 And immediately Jesus, having stretched forth the hand, laid hold of him and says to him, “Little faith! For why did you waver?”
| ܘܒܪ ܫܥܬܗ ܦܫܛ ܐܝܕܗ ܡܪܢ ܘܐܚܕܗ ܘܐܡܪ ܠܗ ܙܥܘܪ ܗܝܡܢܘܬܐ ܠܡܢܐ ܐܬܦܠܓܬ |
32 And they having gone into the boat, the wind stilled,
| ܘܟܕ ܤܠܩܘ ܠܐܠܦܐ ܫܠܝܬ ܪܘܚܐ |
33 and those in the boat having come, worshiped Him, saying, “You are truly God’s Son.”
| ܘܐܬܘ ܗܢܘܢ ܕܒܐܠܦܐ ܤܓܕܘ ܠܗ ܘܐܡܪܘ ܫܪܝܪܐܝܬ ܒܪܗ ܐܢܬ ܕܐܠܗܐ |
34 And having passed over, they came into the land of Gennesaret,
| ܘܪܕܘ ܘܐܬܘ ܠܐܪܥܐ ܕܓܢܤܪ |
35 and having recognized Him, the men of that place sent forth to all that surrounding region, and they brought to Him all who were ill,
| ܘܐܫܬܘܕܥܘܗܝ ܐܢܫܐ ܕܐܬܪܐ ܗܘ ܘܫܕܪܘ ܠܟܠܗܝܢ ܩܘܪܝܐ ܕܚܕܪܝܗܘܢ ܘܩܪܒܘ ܠܗ ܟܠܗܘܢ ܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܒܝܫ ܒܝܫ ܥܒܝܕܝܢ |
36 and were calling on Him that they might only touch the fringe of His garment, and as many as touched were saved.
| ܘܒܥܝܢ ܗܘܘ ܡܢܗ ܕܢܩܪܒܘܢ ܐܦܢ ܠܟܢܦܐ ܒܠܚܘܕ ܕܠܒܘܫܗ ܘܐܝܠܝܢ ܕܩܪܒܘ ܐܬܐܤܝܘ |
