Luke 7
1 And when He completed all His sayings in the ears of the people, He went into Capernaum;
Lorsqu’il eut fini de faire entendre toutes ces paroles au peuple, il entra dans Capharnaüm.
2 and a certain centurion’s servant being ill, was about to die, who was much valued by him,
Or un centurion avait un serviteur malade, qui se mourait, et qu’il aimait beaucoup.
3 and having heard about Jesus, he sent to Him elders of the Jews, imploring Him, that having come He might thoroughly save his servant.
Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il lui envoya des anciens d’entre les Juifs, le priant de venir guérir son serviteur.
4 And they, having come near to Jesus, were calling on Him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy to whom You will do this,
Ceux-ci étant venus vers Jésus, le priaient avec grande instance, lui disant: Il mérite que vous fassiez cela pour lui;
5 for he loves our nation, and he built to us the synagogue.”
Car il aime notre nation, il nous a même bâti une synagogue.
6 And Jesus was going on with them, and now when He is not far distant from the house the centurion sent to Him friends, saying to Him, “Lord, do not be troubled, for I am not worthy that You may enter under my roof;
Jésus donc allait avec eux. Or comme il n’était plus loin de la maison, le centurion envoya de ses amis lui dire: Seigneur, ne vous donnez point tant de peine; car je ne suis pas digne que vous entriez sous mon toit;
7 for this reason I did not consider myself worthy to come to You, but say in a word, and my boy will be healed;
C’est pourquoi je ne me suis pas jugé digne de venir moi-même à vous: mais dites un mot, et mon serviteur sera guéri.
8 for I also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers, and I say to this [one], Go, and he goes; and to another, Be coming, and he comes; and to my servant, Do this, and he does [it].”
Car, moi qui suis un homme soumis à la puissance d’un autre, et ayant sous moi des soldats, je dis à celui-ci: Va, et il va; à un autre: Viens, et il vient; et à mon serviteur: Fais cela, et il le fait.
9 And having heard these things Jesus wondered at him, and having turned to the multitude following Him, He said, “I say to you, not even in Israel did I find so much faith”;
Ce qu’ayant entendu, Jésus fut dans l’admiration, et se tournant vers la foule qui le suivait, il dit: En vérité, je vous le dis, je n’ai pas trouvé en Israël même une si grande foi.
10 and those sent, having turned back to the house, found the ailing servant in health.
Revenus à la maison, ceux que le centurion avait envoyés trouvèrent le serviteur qui avait été malade, bien portant.
11 And it came to pass, on the next day, He was going on to a city called Nain, and there were going with Him many of His disciples, and a great multitude,
Il arriva qu’il s’en alla ensuite dans une ville appelée Naïm; et ses disciples l’accompagnaient ainsi qu’une foule nombreuse.
12 and as He came near to the gate of the city, then, behold, one dead was being carried forth, an only son of his mother, and she a widow, and a great multitude of the city was with her.
Or comme il approchait de la porte de la ville, voilà qu’on emportait un mort, fils unique de sa mère; et celle-ci était veuve, et beaucoup de personnes de la ville l’accompagnaient.
13 And the LORD having seen her, was moved with compassion toward her and said to her, “Do not be weeping”;
Lorsque le Seigneur l’eut vue, il fut touché de compassion pour elle et lui dit: Ne pleurez point.
14 and having come near, He touched the bier, and those carrying [it] stood still, and He said, “Young man, to you I say, Arise”;
Alors il s’approcha, toucha le cercueil (ceux qui le portaient s’arrêtèrent), et il dit: Jeune homme, je te le commande, lève-toi.
15 and the dead sat up, and began to speak, and He gave him to his mother;
Et celui qui était mort se mit sur son séant, et commença à parler; et Jésus le rendit à sa mère.
16 and fear took hold of all, and they were glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has risen among us,” and, “God looked on His people.”
Et tous furent saisis de crainte; et ils glorifiaient Dieu, disant: Un grand prophète s’est élevé parmi nous, et Dieu a visité son peuple.
17 And the account of this went forth in all Judea about Him, and in all the region around.
Et le bruit s’en répandit dans toute la Judée et dans tout le pays d’alentour.
18 And the disciples of John told him about all these things,
Cependant les disciples de Jean lui ayant rapporté toutes ces choses,
19 and John having called near a certain two of his disciples, sent to Jesus, saying, “Are You He who is coming, or do we look for another?”
Il en appela deux, et les envoya vers Jésus, disant: Êtes-vous celui qui doit venir, ou est-ce un autre que nous attendons?
20 And having come near to Him, the men said, “John the Immerser sent us to You, saying, Are You He who is coming, or do we look for another?”
Etant donc venus vers lui, ces hommes lui dirent: Jean-Baptiste nous a envoyés vers vous pour vous demander: Est-ce vous qui devez venir, ou est-ce un autre que nous attendons?
21 And in that hour He cured many from diseases, and plagues, and evil spirits, and He granted sight to many blind.
(À cette heure même Jésus guérit un grand nombre de personnes affligées de maladies, de plaies et d’esprits malins, et rendit la vue à beaucoup d’aveugles.)
22 And Jesus answering said to them, “Having gone on, report to John what you saw and heard, that blind men see again, lame walk, lepers are cleansed, deaf hear, dead are raised, poor have good news proclaimed;
Et répondant, il leur dit: Allez annoncera Jean ce que vous avez entendu et vu: que des aveugles voient, des boiteux marchent, des lépreux sont purifiés, des sourds entendent, des morts ressuscitent, des pauvres sont évangélisés:
23 and blessed is he whoever may not be stumbled in Me.”
Et bienheureux est celui qui ne sera point scandalisé de moi.
24 And the messengers of John having gone away, He began to say to the multitudes concerning John: “What have you gone forth into the wilderness to look on? A reed shaken by the wind?
Et lorsque les envoyés de Jean furent partis, il commença à parler ainsi de Jean au peuple: Qu’êtes-vous allés voir au désert? un roseau agité par le vent?
25 But what have you gone forth to see? A man clothed in soft garments? Behold, they in splendid clothing, and living in luxury, are in the houses of kings!
Mais encore qu’êtes-vous allés voir? un homme vêtu avec mollesse? Or ceux qui portent des vêtements précieux et vivent dans les délices habitent les maisons des rois.
26 But what have you gone forth to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and much more than a prophet:
Qu’êtes-vous donc allés voir? un prophète? Oui, je vous le dis, et plus qu’un prophète:
27 this is he concerning whom it has been written: Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You;
C’est celui dont il est écrit: Voici que j’envoie mon ange devant votre face, pour préparer votre voie devant vous.
28 for I say to you, there is not a greater prophet, among those born of women, than John the Immerser; but the least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.”
Car je vous le dis: Entre ceux qui sont nés des femmes, nul n’est plus grand prophète que Jean-Baptiste; mais le plus petit dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui.
29 And all the people having heard, and the tax collectors, declared God righteous, having been immersed with the immersion of John,
Et tout le peuple qui l’écoutait et les publicains reconnurent la justice de Dieu, s’étant fait baptiser du baptême de Jean.
30 but the Pharisees and the lawyers put away the counsel of God for themselves, having not been immersed by him.
Mais les pharisiens et les docteurs de la loi méprisèrent le dessein de Dieu sur eux, ne s’étant point fait baptiser par Jean.
31 And the LORD said, “To what, then, will I liken the men of this generation? And to what are they like?
Le Seigneur dit encore: À qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération? et à qui sont-ils semblables?
32 They are like to children, to those sitting in a marketplace, and calling to one another, and saying, We piped to you, and you did not dance, we mourned to you, and you did not weep!
Ils sont semblables à des enfants assis dans la place, se parlant l’un à l’autre, et disant: Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n’avez point dansé: nous avons entonné des chants lugubres, et vous n’avez point pleuré.
33 For John the Immerser came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, He has a demon;
Car Jean est venu, ne mangeant point de pain, et ne buvant point de vin, et vous dites: Il a un démon en lui.
34 the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, Behold, a man, a glutton, and a wine drinker, a friend of tax collectors and sinners;
Le Fils de l’homme est venu, mangeant et buvant, et vous dites: C’est un homme de bonne chère, et qui aime le vin, ami des publicains et des pécheurs.
35 and the wisdom was justified from all her children.”
Mais la sagesse a été justifiée par tous ses enfants.
36 And a certain one of the Pharisees was asking Him that He might eat with him, and having gone into the house of the Pharisee He reclined,
Or un des pharisiens le pria de manger avec lui. Etant donc entré dans la maison du pharisien, il se mit à table.
37 and behold, a woman in the city, who was a sinner, having known that He reclines in the house of the Pharisee, having provided an alabaster box of ointment,
Et voilà qu’une femme connue dans la ville pour une pécheresse, ayant su qu’il était à table dans la maison du pharisien, apporta un vase d’albâtre plein de parfums:
38 and having stood behind, beside His feet, weeping, she began to wet His feet with the tears, and with the hairs of her head she was wiping, and was kissing His feet, and was anointing with the ointment.
Et se tenant par derrière à ses pieds, elle commença à les arroser de ses larmes; et les essuyant avec ses cheveux, elle les baisait et les oignait de parfums.
39 And the Pharisee who called Him, having seen, spoke within himself, saying, “This One, if He were a prophet, would have known who and of what kind [is] the woman who touches Him, that she is a sinner.”
Ce que voyant, le pharisien qui l’avait invité dit en lui-même: Si celui-ci était prophète, il saurait certainement qui est, et ce qu’est la femme qui le touche: il saurait que c’est une pécheresse.
40 And Jesus answering said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you”; and he says, “Teacher, say on.”
Alors Jésus prenant la parole, lui dit: Simon, j’ai quelque chose à te dire. Il répondit: Maître, dites.
41 “Two debtors were to a certain creditor; one was owing five hundred denarii, and the other fifty;
Un créancier avait d eux débiteurs; l’un lui devait cinq cents deniers, et l’autre cinquante.
42 and they not having [with which] to give back, he forgave both; which of them then, do you say, will love him more?”
Comme ils n’avaient pas de quoi payer, il leur remit la dette à tous deux. Lequel donc l’aime le plus?
43 And Simon answering said, “I suppose that to whom he forgave the more”; and He said to him, “You judged correctly.”
Simon répondit: Celui, je pense, à qui il a le plus remis. Jésus lui dit: Tu as bien jugé.
44 And having turned to the woman, He said to Simon, “See this woman? I entered into your house; you did not give water for My feet, but this woman wet My feet with tears, and wiped with the hairs of her head;
Et se tournant vers la femme, il dit à Simon: Vois-tu cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison, et tu ne m’as point donné d’eau pour mes pieds; elle, au contraire, les a arrosés de ses larmes et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux.
45 you did not give a kiss to Me, but this woman, from what [time] I came in, did not cease kissing My feet;
Tu ne m’as point donné de baiser; mais elle, depuis qu’elle est entrée, n’a cessé de baiser mes pieds.
46 you did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman anointed My feet with oil;
Tu n’as pas oint ma tête d’huile, mais elle a oint mes pieds de parfums.
47 therefore I say to you, her many sins have been forgiven, because she loved much; but to whom is forgiven little, loves little.”
C’est pourquoi je te le dis: Beaucoup de péchés lui sont remis, parce qu’elle a beaucoup aimé. Mais celui à qui on remet moins aime moins.
48 And He said to her, “Your sins have been forgiven”;
Alors il dit à cette femme: Vos péchés vous sont remis.
49 and those dining with Him began to say within themselves, “Who is this, who also forgives sins?”
Ceux qui étaient à table avec lui commencèrent à dire en eux-mêmes: Qui est celui-ci, qui remet même les péchés?
50 And He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you, be going on to peace.”
Mais Jésus dit à la femme: Votre foi vous a sauvée; allez en paix.
