Luke 3
1 And in the fifteenth year of the government of Tiberius Caesar—Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip, tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
Xibeeriyoos Qeesaar moʼee waggaa kudha shanaffaatti jechuunis yommuu Phonxoos Phiilaaxoos bulchaa Yihuudaa turetti, Heroodis bulchaa Galiilaa ture; obboleessi isaa Fiiliphoos bulchaa Ixuriyaasii fi Xiraakonitiis, Lisaaniiyaas immoo bulchaa Abileeniis turan;
2 [and] Annas and Caiaphas being chief priests—there came a word of God to John the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness,
yeroo sana Haannaasii fi Qayyaaffaan luboota ol aantota turan. Dubbiin Waaqaa gammoojjii keessatti gara Yohannis ilma Zakkaariyaas dhufe.
3 and he came to all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming an immersion of conversion for forgiveness of sins,
Innis dhiifama cubbuutiif cuuphaa qalbii jijjiirrannaa lallabaa biyya naannoo Yordaanos hunda keessa deeme.
4 as it has been written in the scroll of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “A voice of one crying in the wilderness: Prepare the way of the LORD, Make His paths straight;
Kunis isa kitaaba dubbii Isaayyaas raajichaa keessatti akkana jedhamee barreeffamee dha: “Sagalee nama gammoojjii keessaa iyyu tokkoo: ‘Karaa Gooftaa qopheessaa; daandii isaas qajeelchaa.
5 Every valley will be filled, And every mountain and hill will be made low, And the crooked will become straightness, And the rough become smooth ways;
Sululli hundi ni guutama; tulluu fi gaarri hundinuus gad deebifamu. Karaan jalʼaan ni qajeela; daandiin buʼaa baʼiinis wal qixxeeffama.
6 And all flesh will see the salvation of God.”
Sanyiin namaa hundinuus fayyisuu Waaqaa ni arga.’”
7 Then he said to the multitudes coming forth to be immersed by him, “Brood of vipers! Who prompted you to flee from the coming wrath?
Yohannisis warra harka isaatti cuuphamuuf dhufaniin akkana jedhe; “Isin ijoollee buutii nana! Dheekkamsa dhufu jalaa akka baqattaniif eenyutu isinitti hime?
8 Make, therefore, fruits worthy of conversion, and do not begin to say within yourselves, We have a father—Abraham; for I say to you that God is able to raise children to Abraham out of these stones;
Egaa ija qalbii jijjiirrannaa mirkaneessu naqadhaa. Isin, ‘Abbaan keenya Abrahaamii dha’ ofiin jechuu hin jalqabinaa. Waaqni dhagoota kanneen irraa Abrahaamiif ijoollee kaasuu akka dandaʼu ani isinittan himaatii.
9 and also the axe is already laid to the root of the trees, every tree, therefore, not making good fruit is cut down, and it is cast into fire.”
Qottoon amma iyyuu hidda mukkeenii irra kaaʼameera; mukti ija gaarii hin naqanne hundinuus muramee ibiddatti darbatama.”
10 And the multitudes were questioning him, saying, “What, then, will we do?”
Namoonni sunis, “Yoos maal haa goonuu ree?” jedhanii isa gaafatan.
11 And he answering says to them, “He having two coats, let him impart to him having none; and he having food, let him do in like manner.”
Yohannisis deebisee, “Namni uffata lama qabu isa homaa hin qabneef haa qoodu; kan nyaata qabus akkasuma haa godhu” jedheen.
12 And there also came tax collectors to be immersed, and they said to him, “Teacher, what will we do?”
Qaraxxoonni cuuphamuu dhufanii, “Yaa barsiisaa, nu hoo maal haa goonu?” jedhanii isa gaafatan.
13 And he said to them, “Exact no more than that directed you.”
Innis, “Waan ajajamtan caalaa walitti hin qabinaa” jedheen.
14 And also questioning him were those warring, saying, “And we, what will we do?” And he said to them, “Do violence to no one, nor accuse falsely, and be content with your wages.”
Loltoonnis akkasuma, “Nu immoo maal haa goonu ree?” jedhanii isa gaafatan. Innis, “Humnaan nama irraa maallaqa hin fudhatinaa; sobaan nama hin himatinaa; mindaan keessan isin haa gaʼu” jedheen.
15 And the people are looking forward, and all are reasoning in their hearts concerning John, whether or not he may be the Christ;
Namoonni sun hawwiidhaan eegaa turan; hundi isaaniis, “Yohannis kun inni Kiristoos taʼinnaa laata?” jedhanii garaa isaaniitti yaadaa turan.
16 John answered, saying to all, “I indeed immerse you in water, but He comes who is mightier than I, of whom I am not worthy to loose the strap of His sandals—He will immerse you in the Holy Spirit and fire;
Yohannis akkana jedhee isaan hundaaf deebii kenne; “Ani bishaaniin isin cuupha. Garuu kan na caalaa jabaa taʼe tokko ni dhufa; ani hidhaa kophee isaa illee hiikuun naaf hin malu. Inni Hafuura Qulqulluu fi ibiddaan isin cuupha.
17 whose winnowing shovel [is] in His hand, and He will thoroughly cleanse His floor, and will gather the wheat into His storehouse, and He will burn the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Innis oobdii isaa qulqulleessee gombisaa isaatti qamadii galfachuudhaaf afarsaan isaa harka isaa jira; habaqii garuu ibidda hin dhaamneen guba.”
18 And therefore, indeed, with many other things, exhorting, he was proclaiming good news to the people,
Yohannisis dubbii biraa baayʼeedhaan namoota gorsee wangeelas isaanitti lallabe.
19 and Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him concerning Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, and concerning all the evils that Herod did,
Heroodis bulchaan garuu yommuu sababii inni niitii obboleessa isaa Heroodiyaas fuudhee fi sababii hammina inni hojjetee ture kaan hundaatiif Yohannis isa ifate,
20 added also this to all, that he shut up John in the prison.
hammina isaa hunda irratti dabalee Yohannisin mana hidhaatti galchee itti cufe.
21 And it came to pass, in all the people being immersed, Jesus also being immersed, and praying, Heaven was opened,
Yeroo namoonni hundinuu cuuphamaa turanitti, Yesuusis ni cuuphame. Utuu inni kadhachaa jiruu samiin banamee,
22 and the Holy Spirit came down in a bodily appearance, as if a dove, on Him, and a voice came out of Heaven, saying, “You are My Son, the Beloved, in You I delighted.”

27 the [son] of Joanna, the [son] of Rhesa, the [son] of Zerubbabel, the [son] of Shealtiel,

28 the [son] of Neri, the [son] of Melchi, the [son] of Addi, the [son] of Cosam, the [son] of Elmodam, the [son] of Er,
ilma Melkii, ilma Hadii, ilma Qoosaam, ilma Elmaadaam, ilma Eer,
29 the [son] of Jose, the [son] of Eliezer, the [son] of Jorim, the [son] of Matthat,
ilma Iyyaasuu, ilma Eliiʼezer, ilma Yoorim, ilma Maataat, ilma Lewwii,
30 the [son] of Levi, the [son] of Simeon, the [son] of Judah, the [son] of Joseph, the [son] of Jonan, the [son] of Eliakim,
ilma Simiʼoon, ilma Yihuudaa, ilma Yoosef, ilma Yoonaan, ilma Eliyaaqeem,
31 the [son] of Melea, the [son] of Mainan, the [son] of Mattatha, the [son] of Nathan,

32 the [son] of David, the [son] of Jesse, the [son] of Obed, the [son] of Boaz, the [son] of Salmon, the [son] of Nahshon,

38 the [son] of Cainan, the [son] of Enos, the [son] of Seth, the [son] of Adam, the [son] of God.
