< Luke 2 >
1 And it came to pass in those days, there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world be registered—
En aquellos días aconteció que salió un edicto de parte de César Augusto, para que se empadronara toda la tierra habitada.
2 this census first came to pass when Quirinius was governor of Syria—
Este primer censo se realizó cuando Cirenio era gobernador de Siria.
3 and all were going to be registered, each to his proper city,
Todos iban a registrar[se], cada uno a su ciudad.
4 and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Beth-Lehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,
Por tanto José subió de [la] ciudad de Nazaret de Galilea, a Belén, [la] ciudad de David en Judea, porque él era de [la] casa y familia de David,
5 to register himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with Child.
para registrarse con su esposa María, la cual estaba embarazada.
6 And it came to pass, in their being there, the days were fulfilled for her bringing forth,
Cuando estaban allí se cumplió el tiempo de su parto y
7 and she brought forth her Son—the firstborn, and wrapped Him up, and laid Him down in the manger, because there was not a place for them in the guest-chamber.
dio a luz a su Hijo primogénito. Lo envolvió en pañales y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en la pensión.
8 And there were shepherds in the same region, lodging in the field and keeping the night-watches over their flock,
Había pastores en aquella misma región que posaban a campo abierto y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre sus rebaños.
9 and behold, a messenger of the LORD stood over them, and the glory of the LORD shone around them, and they feared [with] a great fear.
Un ángel del Señor les apareció y [la] gloria del Señor los rodeó de resplandor. Se llenaron de un gran temor.
10 And the messenger said to them, “Do not fear, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be to all the people,
Pero el ángel les dijo: ¡No teman! Porque miren, les traigo Buenas Noticias de gran gozo que será para todo el pueblo.
11 because today in the city of David a Savior was born to you, who is Christ the LORD!
¡Hoy les nació en [la] ciudad de David un Salvador, Quien es Cristo [el] Señor!
12 And this [is] the sign to you: you will find a Baby wrapped up, lying in the manger.”
Esto será para ustedes la señal: Hallarán a un Niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre.
13 And suddenly there came with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,
Repentinamente apareció con el ángel una multitud de la hueste celestial que alababa a Dios, y decía:
14 “Glory in the highest to God, and on earth peace, among men—good will!”
¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas, Y en la tierra paz entre los hombres Sobre quienes reposa el favor de Dios!
15 And it came to pass, when the messengers were gone away from them to the heavens, that the men, the shepherds, said to one another, “We may indeed go over to Beth-Lehem and see this thing that has come to pass, that the LORD made known to us!”
Sucedió que cuando los ángeles partieron de ellos al cielo, los pastores se decían unos a otros: Vayamos, pues, hasta Belén. Veamos esto que sucedió y que el Señor nos manifestó.
16 And they came, having hurried, and found both Mary, and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger,
Y salieron aprisa, fueron y hallaron a María y José, y al Niño acostado en el pesebre.
17 and having seen, they made known abroad concerning the saying spoken to them concerning the Child.
Cuando lo vieron, anunciaron lo que les fue dicho con respecto a este Niño.
18 And all who heard [it] wondered concerning the things spoken to them by the shepherds;
Todos los que oyeron se asombraron de lo que los pastores les decían.
19 and Mary was preserving all these things, pondering [them] in her heart;
María guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón y meditaba en ellas.
20 and the shepherds turned back, glorifying and praising God for all those things they heard and saw, as it was spoken to them.
Los pastores regresaron. Glorificaban y alababan a Dios por todo lo que oyeron y vieron, como se les dijo.
21 And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the Child, then was His Name called Jesus, having been so called by the messenger before His being conceived in the womb.
Cuando se cumplieron los ocho días para circuncidarlo, lo llamaron Jesús, nombre que le fue asignado por el ángel antes de que fuera concebido en el vientre.
22 And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the Law of Moses, they brought Him up to Jerusalem, to present to the LORD,
Cuando se cumplieron los días de [la] purificación de ellos, según la Ley de Moisés, lo llevaron a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor,
23 as it has been written in the Law of the LORD: “Every male opening a womb will be called holy to the LORD,”
como está escrito en [la] Ley del Señor: Todo varón que abre matriz se llamará santo para el Señor,
24 and to give a sacrifice, according to that said in the Law of the LORD: “A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.”
y para dar la ofrenda conforme a lo dicho en la Ley del Señor: Un par de tórtolas o dos palominos.
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name [is] Simeon, and this man is righteous and devout, looking for the comforting of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him,
Estaba en Jerusalén un hombre justo y devoto llamado Simeón, quien esperaba [la] consolación de Israel. [El] Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él,
26 and it has been divinely told him by the Holy Spirit—not to see death before he may see the Christ of the LORD.
Quien le reveló que no moriría antes que viera al Cristo del Señor.
27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and in the parents bringing in the child Jesus, for their doing according to the custom of the Law regarding Him,
El Espíritu lo movió y fue al Templo. Cuando los padres introdujeron al Niño Jesús, para hacer ellos por Él según la costumbre de la Ley,
28 then he took Him in his arms, and blessed God, and he said,
él también lo tomó en sus brazos. Bendijo a Dios:
29 “Now You send Your servant away, O LORD, according to Your word, in peace,
Ahora, Soberano, despide a tu esclavo en paz, según tu Palabra.
30 because my eyes saw Your salvation,
Porque mis ojos vieron tu salvación,
31 which You prepared before the face of all the peoples,
La cual preparaste en presencia de todos los pueblos.
32 a light to the uncovering of nations, and the glory of Your people Israel.”
Luz para revelación a [los] gentiles, Y gloria de tu pueblo Israel.
33 And Joseph and His mother were wondering at the things spoken concerning Him,
Su padre y su madre estaban maravillados de lo que se decía con respecto a Él.
34 and Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary, “Behold, this [One] is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against—
Simeón los bendijo. Dijo a su madre María: Mira, Éste es designado para caída y levantada de muchos en Israel, y como una señal que tiene contradicción
35 (and also a sword will pass through your own soul)—that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed.”
para que sean descubiertos los pensamientos de muchos. Y una espada traspasará tu alma.
36 And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, she was much advanced in days, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
Estaba allí la profetiza Ana, hija de Fanuel, de [la] tribu de Aser. Ella vivió con [su] esposo siete años desde su virginidad y era de edad avanzada.
37 and she [is] a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, serving with fasts and supplications, night and day,
Era viuda durante 84 años. No se alejaba del Templo y servía noche y día con ayunos y conversaciones con Dios.
38 and she, at that hour, having come in, was confessing, likewise, to the LORD, and was speaking concerning Him to all those looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
Ella se presentó en ese momento. Daba gracias a Dios y hablaba del Niño a todos los que esperaban la redención de Jerusalén.
39 And when they completed all things according to the Law of the LORD, they turned back to Galilee, to their city of Nazareth;
Cuando cumplieron todo según la Ley del Señor, regresaron a Nazaret de Galilea, su ciudad.
40 and the Child grew and was strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on Him.
El Niño crecía y se fortalecía. Se llenaba de sabiduría y [la] gracia de Dios estaba sobre Él.
41 And His parents were going yearly to Jerusalem, at the Celebration of the Passover,
Sus padres iban cada año a Jerusalén a la fiesta de [la] Pascua.
42 and when He became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the celebration,
Cuando cumplió 12 años, ellos subieron según la costumbre de la fiesta y
43 and having finished the days, in their returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and His mother did not know,
regresaron al terminar los días. El Niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, y sus padres no [lo] supieron.
44 and having supposed Him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and were seeking Him among the relatives and among the acquaintances,
Por tanto, como supusieron que estaba en la caravana, anduvieron un día y lo buscaban entre los familiares y los conocidos.
45 and having not found Him, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking Him.
Pero al no hallarlo, regresaron a Jerusalén.
46 And it came to pass, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and questioning them,
Tres días después lo hallaron en el Templo, sentado en medio de los maestros. Los oía y les preguntaba.
47 and all those hearing Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
Todos los que [lo] oían se asombraban de su inteligencia y de sus respuestas.
48 And having seen Him, they were amazed, and His mother said to Him, “Child, why did You do this to us? Behold, Your father and I, sorrowing, were seeking You.”
Al verlo, se asombraron, y su madre le dijo: Hijo, ¿por qué nos hiciste esto? ¡Considera, tu padre y yo te buscábamos angustiados!
49 And He said to them, “Why [is it] that you were seeking Me? Did you not know that it is necessary for Me to be in the things of My Father?”
Y les preguntó: ¿Por qué me buscaban? ¿No sabían que me es necesario estar en las cosas de mi Padre?
50 And they did not understand the saying that He spoke to them,
Pero ellos no entendieron la respuesta que les dio.
51 and He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and He was subject to them, and His mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,
Bajó con ellos a Nazaret, y estaba sujeto a ellos. Y su madre reflexionaba en todas estas cosas.
52 and Jesus was advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favor with God and men.
Jesús crecía en sabiduría, estatura y gracia hacia Dios y [los] hombres.
