Luke 2
1 And it came to pass in those days, there went forth a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world be registered—
En esos días el César emitió un decreto según el cual debía hacerse un censo de todos los que vivían en el Imperio Romano.
2 this census first came to pass when Quirinius was governor of Syria—
Este fue el primer censo bajo el gobierno de Cirenio de Siria.
3 and all were going to be registered, each to his proper city,
Así que todo el mundo se dirigió a sus ciudades para registrarse.
4 and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, that is called Beth-Lehem, because of his being of the house and family of David,
José era descendiente del Rey David, por lo tanto partió de Nazaret, en Galilea, hacia Belén, la ciudad de David, en Judea.
5 to register himself with Mary his betrothed wife, being with Child.
Fue a registrarse allí, junto con María, quien estaba comprometida para casarse con él, y quien esperaba un bebé.
6 And it came to pass, in their being there, the days were fulfilled for her bringing forth,
Mientras estaban allí, le llegó a ella el tiempo para tener a su bebé.
7 and she brought forth her Son—the firstborn, and wrapped Him up, and laid Him down in the manger, because there was not a place for them in the guest-chamber.
Y tendro su primer hijo. Lo envolvió en tiras de tela y lo puso en un pesebre porque la posada no tenía más habitaciones disponibles.
8 And there were shepherds in the same region, lodging in the field and keeping the night-watches over their flock,
Cerca de allí había unos pastores que pasaban la noche afuera en los campos, cuidando de sus rebaños.
9 and behold, a messenger of the LORD stood over them, and the glory of the LORD shone around them, and they feared [with] a great fear.
Y un ángel del Señor se les apareció, y la gloria de Dios brilló alrededor de ellos. Ellos estaban terriblemente aterrorizados.
10 And the messenger said to them, “Do not fear, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be to all the people,
“¡No tengan miedo!” – les dijo el ángel. “Estoy aquí para darles la buena noticia que traerá felicidad a todos.
11 because today in the city of David a Savior was born to you, who is Christ the LORD!
El Salvador ha nacido hoy, aquí en la ciudad de David. Él es el Mesías, el Señor.
12 And this [is] the sign to you: you will find a Baby wrapped up, lying in the manger.”
Lo reconocerán por esta señal: encontrarán al niño envuelto en tiras de tela y acostado en un pesebre”.
13 And suddenly there came with the messenger a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying,
De repente aparecieron muchos seres celestiales, alabando a Dios, y diciendo:
14 “Glory in the highest to God, and on earth peace, among men—good will!”
“¡Gloria al Dios del cielo, y en la tierra paz a aquellos con quienes él se complace!”
15 And it came to pass, when the messengers were gone away from them to the heavens, that the men, the shepherds, said to one another, “We may indeed go over to Beth-Lehem and see this thing that has come to pass, that the LORD made known to us!”
Después que los ángeles se fueron y regresaron al cielo, los pastores se dijeron unos a otros: “¡Vayamos a Belén! Veamos qué ha ocurrido sobre lo que el Señor nos ha dicho”.
16 And they came, having hurried, and found both Mary, and Joseph, and the Baby lying in the manger,
Se apresuraron y encontraron a María, a José y al bebé, el cual estaba acostado en el pesebre.
17 and having seen, they made known abroad concerning the saying spoken to them concerning the Child.
Después que lo vieron con sus propios ojos, esparcieron la noticia de lo que se les había dicho a ellos sobre este niño.
18 And all who heard [it] wondered concerning the things spoken to them by the shepherds;
Todos los que oían la noticia estaban asombrados ante lo que ellos decían.
19 and Mary was preserving all these things, pondering [them] in her heart;
Pero María guardaba en su corazón todas las cosas que habían sucedido y a menudo pensaba en ellas.
20 and the shepherds turned back, glorifying and praising God for all those things they heard and saw, as it was spoken to them.
Los pastores regresaron a cuidar de sus rebaños, glorificando y agradeciendo a Dios por todo lo que habían visto y oído, pues sucedió tal como se les había dicho.
21 And when eight days were fulfilled to circumcise the Child, then was His Name called Jesus, having been so called by the messenger before His being conceived in the womb.
Después de ocho días, llegó el momento de circuncidar al niño, y fue llamado Jesús. Este fue el nombre dado por el ángel incluso antes de ser concebido.
22 And when the days of their purification were fulfilled, according to the Law of Moses, they brought Him up to Jerusalem, to present to the LORD,
Cuando terminó el tiempo de su purificación, conforme a la ley de Moisés, José y María lo llevaron a Jerusalén para presentárselo al Señor,
23 as it has been written in the Law of the LORD: “Every male opening a womb will be called holy to the LORD,”
tal como lo establece la ley del Señor: “Todo hijo primogénito debe ser dedicado al Señor”.
24 and to give a sacrifice, according to that said in the Law of the LORD: “A pair of turtle-doves, or two young pigeons.”
Allí hicieron un sacrificio de “un par de tórtolas o dos pichones de paloma”, como lo establece también la ley del Señor.
25 And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name [is] Simeon, and this man is righteous and devout, looking for the comforting of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him,
En ese tiempo vivía en Jerusalén un hombre llamado Simeón. Y era un hombre recto y muy piadoso. Él esperaba con ansias la esperanza de Israel, y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.
26 and it has been divinely told him by the Holy Spirit—not to see death before he may see the Christ of the LORD.
El Espíritu Santo le había mostrado que no moriría sin haber visto al Mesías del Señor.
27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and in the parents bringing in the child Jesus, for their doing according to the custom of the Law regarding Him,
Y guiado por el Espíritu, fue al Templo. Cuando los padres de Jesús trajeron al niño para dedicarlo como lo indicaba la Ley,
28 then he took Him in his arms, and blessed God, and he said,
Simeón tomó a Jesús en sus brazos, dio gracias a Dios, y dijo:
29 “Now You send Your servant away, O LORD, according to Your word, in peace,
“Señor y Maestro, ahora puedes dejar que tu siervo muera en paz como lo prometiste,
30 because my eyes saw Your salvation,
porque he visto con mis propios ojos tu salvación,
31 which You prepared before the face of all the peoples,
la cual has preparado para todos.
32 a light to the uncovering of nations, and the glory of Your people Israel.”
Él es la luz que te mostrará ante las naciones, la gloria de tu pueblo Israel”.
33 And Joseph and His mother were wondering at the things spoken concerning Him,
El padre y la madre de Jesús estaban impresionados por lo que Simeón dijo de él.
34 and Simeon blessed them and said to His mother Mary, “Behold, this [One] is set for the falling and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against—
Entonces Simeón los bendijo, y dijo a María la madre de Jesús: “Este niño está destinado para hacer que muchos en Israel caigan y muchos otros se levanten. Es una señal de Dios que muchos rechazarán,
35 (and also a sword will pass through your own soul)—that the reasonings of many hearts may be revealed.”
y revelará lo que ellos piensan realmente. Para ti será como una espada que atravesará directo a tu corazón”.
36 And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher, she was much advanced in days, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,
Ana, la profetisa, vivía también en Jerusalén. Ella era la hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, y ya estaba muy vieja. Había estado casada por siete años
37 and she [is] a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, serving with fasts and supplications, night and day,
y luego quedó viuda. Tenía ochenta y cuatro años de edad. Pasaba el tiempo adorando en el Templo, ayunando y orando.
38 and she, at that hour, having come in, was confessing, likewise, to the LORD, and was speaking concerning Him to all those looking for redemption in Jerusalem.
Y en ese momento, llegó donde ellos estaban, y comenzó a alabar a Dios. Y les habló de Jesús a todos los que estaban allí los que esperaban el tiempo en que Dios libertaría a Jerusalén.
39 And when they completed all things according to the Law of the LORD, they turned back to Galilee, to their city of Nazareth;
Cuando terminaron de hacer todo lo que ordenaba la ley de Dios, regresaron a Nazaret, en Galilea, donde vivían.
40 and the Child grew and was strengthened in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was on Him.
El niño crecía y se fortalecía, y era muy sabio. Y la bendición de Dios estaba con él.
41 And His parents were going yearly to Jerusalem, at the Celebration of the Passover,
Los padres de Jesús viajaban a Jerusalén cada año para la fiesta de la Pascua.
42 and when He became twelve years old, they having gone up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the celebration,
Y cuando Jesús tuvo doce años de edad, fueron a la fiesta de la Pascua, como siempre lo hacían.
43 and having finished the days, in their returning the child Jesus remained behind in Jerusalem, and Joseph and His mother did not know,
Cuando terminó la fiesta y era tiempo de regresar a casa, el niño Jesús se quedó en Jerusalén, pero sus padres no se dieron cuenta de ello.
44 and having supposed Him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and were seeking Him among the relatives and among the acquaintances,
Ellos supusieron que él estaba con todos los demás que viajaban de regreso a sus hogares. Pasó un día antes de que comenzaran a buscarlo entre sus amigos y parientes.
45 and having not found Him, they turned back to Jerusalem seeking Him.
Cuando ya no pudieron encontrarlo, regresaron a Jerusalén para buscarlo allí.
46 And it came to pass, after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both hearing them and questioning them,
Pasaron tres días, hasta que lo encontraron en el Templo. Estaba sentado entre los maestros religiosos, escuchándolos y haciéndoles preguntas.
47 and all those hearing Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
Todos los que lo escuchaban hablar se quedaban sorprendidos por su entendimiento y por las respuestas que daba.
48 And having seen Him, they were amazed, and His mother said to Him, “Child, why did You do this to us? Behold, Your father and I, sorrowing, were seeking You.”
Sus padres estaban totalmente confundidos cuando vieron lo que estaba haciendo. Su madre le preguntó: “Hijo, ¿por qué nos has tratado de esta manera? ¡Tu padre y yo hemos estado terriblemente angustiados por ti! ¡Te hemos estado buscando por todas partes!”
49 And He said to them, “Why [is it] that you were seeking Me? Did you not know that it is necessary for Me to be in the things of My Father?”
“¿Por qué han estado buscándome?” respondió Jesús. “¿No saben acaso que debo estar aquí en la casa de mi padre?”
50 And they did not understand the saying that He spoke to them,
Pero ellos no entendieron lo que él quiso decir con eso.
51 and He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and He was subject to them, and His mother was keeping all these sayings in her heart,
Entonces Jesús regresó con ellos a Nazaret, y hacía lo que ellos le decían. Su madre observaba cuidadosamente todo lo que sucedía.
52 and Jesus was advancing in wisdom, and in stature, and in favor with God and men.
Y Jesús crecía continuamente y se hacía más sabio y más fuerte, y hallaba el favor de Dios y de la gente.
