Leviticus 17
1 And YHWH speaks to Moses, saying,
| וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר |
2 “Speak to Aaron and to his sons, and to all the sons of Israel; and you have said to them: This [is] the thing which YHWH has commanded, saying,
| דבר אל אהרן ואל בניו ואל כל בני ישראל ואמרת אליהם זה הדבר אשר צוה יהוה לאמר |
3 Any man of the house of Israel who slaughters ox, or lamb, or goat in the camp, or who slaughters [it] at the outside of the camp,
| איש איש מבית ישראל אשר ישחט שור או כשב או עז במחנה או אשר ישחט מחוץ למחנה |
4 and has not brought it in to the opening of the Tent of Meeting to bring an offering near to YHWH before the Dwelling Place of YHWH, blood is reckoned to that man—he has shed blood—and that man has been cut off from the midst of his people;
| ואל פתח אהל מועד לא הביאו להקריב קרבן ליהוה לפני משכן יהוה--דם יחשב לאיש ההוא דם שפך ונכרת האיש ההוא מקרב עמו |
5 so that the sons of Israel bring in their sacrifices which they are sacrificing on the face of the field, indeed, they have brought them to YHWH, to the opening of the Tent of Meeting, to the priest, and they have sacrificed sacrifices of peace-offerings to YHWH with them.
| למען אשר יביאו בני ישראל את זבחיהם אשר הם זבחים על פני השדה והביאם ליהוה אל פתח אהל מועד אל הכהן וזבחו זבחי שלמים ליהוה--אותם |
6 And the priest has sprinkled the blood on the altar of YHWH, at the opening of the Tent of Meeting, and has made incense with the fat for refreshing fragrance to YHWH;
| וזרק הכהן את הדם על מזבח יהוה פתח אהל מועד והקטיר החלב לריח ניחח ליהוה |
7 and they do not sacrifice their sacrifices anymore to the goat [idols] after which they are going whoring; this is a continuous statute to them, throughout their generations.
| ולא יזבחו עוד את זבחיהם לשעירם אשר הם זנים אחריהם חקת עולם תהיה זאת להם לדרתם |
8 And you say to them: Any man of the house of Israel, or of the sojourners who sojourns in your midst, who causes burnt-offering or sacrifice to ascend,
| ואלהם תאמר--איש איש מבית ישראל ומן הגר אשר יגור בתוכם אשר יעלה עלה או זבח |
9 and does not bring it in to the opening of the Tent of Meeting to make it to YHWH—that man has been cut off from his people.
| ואל פתח אהל מועד לא יביאנו לעשות אתו ליהוה--ונכרת האיש ההוא מעמיו |
10 And any man of the house of Israel, or of the sojourners who is sojourning in your midst, who eats any blood, I have even set My face against the person who is eating the blood, and have cut him off from the midst of his people;
| ואיש איש מבית ישראל ומן הגר הגר בתוכם אשר יאכל כל דם--ונתתי פני בנפש האכלת את הדם והכרתי אתה מקרב עמה |
11 for the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you on the altar, to make atonement for your souls; for it [is] the blood which makes atonement for the soul.
| כי נפש הבשר בדם הוא ואני נתתיו לכם על המזבח לכפר על נפשתיכם כי הדם הוא בנפש יכפר |
12 Therefore I have said to the sons of Israel: No person among you eats blood, and the sojourner who is sojourning in your midst does not eat blood;
| על כן אמרתי לבני ישראל כל נפש מכם לא תאכל דם והגר הגר בתוככם לא יאכל דם |
13 and any man of the sons of Israel, or of the sojourners who is sojourning in your midst, who hunts game, beast or bird, which is eaten—has even poured out its blood and covered it with dust;
| ואיש איש מבני ישראל ומן הגר הגר בתוכם אשר יצוד ציד חיה או עוף אשר יאכל--ושפך את דמו וכסהו בעפר |
14 for [it is] the life of all flesh, its blood is for its life; and I say to the sons of Israel: You do not eat [the] blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; anyone eating it is cut off.
| כי נפש כל בשר דמו בנפשו הוא ואמר לבני ישראל דם כל בשר לא תאכלו כי נפש כל בשר דמו הוא כל אכליו יכרת |
15 And any person who eats a carcass or torn thing, among natives or among sojourners, has washed his garments and bathed with water, and been unclean until the evening—then he has been clean;
| וכל נפש אשר תאכל נבלה וטרפה באזרח ובגר וכבס בגדיו ורחץ במים וטמא עד הערב--וטהר |
16 and if he does not wash, and does not bathe his flesh—then he has borne his iniquity.”
| ואם לא יכבס ובשרו לא ירחץ--ונשא עונו |
