< Lamentations 3 >

1 [ALEPH-BET] I [am] the man [who] has seen affliction By the rod of His wrath.
O WAU no ke kanaka i ike i ka popilikia, Malalo o ka laau o kona ukinki.
2 He has led me, and causes to go [in] darkness, and without light.
Ua alakai oia ia'u, a ua lawe mai ia'u iloko o ka pouli, Aole iloko o ka malamalama.
3 Surely against me He turns back, He turns His hand all the day.
He oiaio, ua huli ku e mai oia ia'u, Ua huli oia i kona lima e ku e ia'u a pau ka la.
4 He has worn out my flesh and my skin. He has broken my bones.
Ua hoopau oia i ko'u io, a me ko'u ili; Ua uhai oia i ko'u mau iwi.
5 He has built up against me, And sets around poverty and weariness.
Ua kukulu ku e mai oia ia'u, Ua hoopuni mai ia'u i ka awaawa, a me ke kaumaha.
6 In dark places He has caused me to dwell, As the dead of old.
Ua hoonoho mai oia ia'u ma na wahi pouli, E like me ka poe i make i ka, wa kahiko.
7 He has hedged me in, and I do not go out, He has made heavy my chain.
Ua hoopuni mai oia ia'u i ka pa, i ole au e puka iwaho; Ua hana oia i ko'u kaula keleawe a kaumaha.
8 Also when I call and cry out, He has shut out my prayer.
I ka wa a'u e kahea aku ai, a nonoi aku, Pani mai la oia i ka'u pule ana.
9 He has hedged my ways with hewn work, My paths He has made crooked.
Ua hoopuni mai oia ia'u me na pohaku i kalaiia; Ua hookeekee oia i ko'u mau alanui.
10 A bear lying in wait He [is] to me, A lion in secret hiding places.
Ua like oia ia'u me ka bea e hoohalua ana, Me he liona la hoi ma na wahi malu.
11 My ways He is turning aside, and He pulls me in pieces, He has made me a desolation.
Ua kapae oia i ko'u mau aoao, ua haehae mai ia'u; Ua hoolilo mai oia ia'u i mehameha.
12 He has bent His bow, And sets me up as a mark for an arrow.
Ua hoolena oia i kona kakaka, Ua kau oia ia'u me he hoailona la no ka pua.
13 He has caused to enter into my reins The sons of His quiver.
Ua hookomo mai oia i kona mau pua iloko o ko'u opu.
14 I have been a derision to all my people, Their song all the day.
He mea akaaka no wau i ko'u poe kanaka a pau; O ko lakou mele akaaka, a pau ka la.
15 He has filled me with bitter things, He has filled me [with] wormwood.
Ua hoomaona mai oia ia'u i na mea awaawa, Ua hooona mai oia ia'u i ka laau awahia.
16 And He breaks with gravel my teeth, He has covered me with ashes.
Ua uhai oia i ko'u mau niho i na iliili, Ua uhi mai oia ia'u i ka lehu.
17 And You cast off my soul from peace, I have forgotten prosperity.
Ua kipaku mai oe i ko'u uhane mai ka maiu aku; Poina hoi ia'u ka pomaikai.
18 And I say, My strength and my hope have perished from YHWH.
I iho la au, Ua hookiia kuu ikaika, A me ka laua ana o kuu manao, mai Iehova mai;
19 Remember my affliction and my mourning, Wormwood and gall!
E manao ana hoi au i ko'u popilikia a me ko'u eha, I ka laau awaawa, a me ka laau make.
20 Remember well, and my soul bows down in me.
Ke manao nui nei ko'u uhane ia mea, Me ke kulou iho iloko o'u.
21 This I turn to my heart—therefore I hope.
Ke hoihoi mai nei au i keia iloko o ko'u naau, A nolaila, ua laua kuu manao.
22 The kindnesses of YHWH! For we have not been consumed, For His mercies have not ended.
No ka lokomaikai o Iehova, aole kakou i anaiia; No ka pau ole hoi o kona aloha.
23 New every morning, abundant [is] Your faithfulness.
He hou mai no i na kakahiaka a pau; Ua nui loa no kou oiaio.
24 My portion [is] YHWH, my soul has said, Therefore I hope for Him.
O Iehova no ko'u kuleana, wahi a kuu uhane, Nolaila e lana'i kuu manao ia ia.
25 YHWH [is] good to those waiting for Him, To the soul [that] seeks Him.
Ua maikai o Iehova i ka poe kakali ia ia, I ka uhane hoi i imi aku ia ia.
26 [It is] good when one stays and stands still For the salvation of YHWH.
He mea maikai ke lana ka manao, no ka hoolaia mai e Iehova, me ka ekemu ole hoi.
27 [It is] good for a man that he bears a yoke in his youth.
He mea maikai i ke kanaka ke lawe i ka auamo i kona wa opiopio.
28 He sits alone, and is silent, For He has laid [it] on him.
Ke noho mehameha ia me ka ekemu ole, No ka mea, [na ke Akua no] i kau ia mea maluna ona.
29 He puts his mouth in the dust, if so be, there is hope.
Ke waiho hoi ia i kona waha ma ka lepo, Ina paha e loaa ia ia ka laua o ka manao.
30 He gives to his striker the cheek, He is filled with reproach.
Ke haawi no hoi oia i kona papalina i ka mea nana ia e hahau; Ke hoopihaia oia i ka hoowahawahaia.
31 For the Lord does not cast off for all time.
Aole nae e kipaku mau loa aku o ka Haku;
32 For though He afflicted, yet He has pitied, According to the abundance of His kindness.
Ina e hookaumaha mai oia, e aloha mai no ia, E like me ka nui o kona lokomaikai.
33 For He has not afflicted with His heart, Nor does He grieve the sons of men.
Aole no kona makemake ia e hookaumaha mai ai, A hoeha i na keiki a kanaka.
34 To bruise under one’s feet any bound ones of earth,
E hahi malalo iho o kona mau wawae, I na mea pio a pau o ka honua,
35 To turn aside the judgment of a man, Before the face of the Most High,
E hoohuli ae i ka pono o ke kanaka, Mai ka maka ae o ka Mea kiekie,
36 To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord has not approved.
E hana kekee i ke kanaka i kona hookolokoloia, Aole i apono mai ka Haku ia mau mea.
37 Who [is] this—he has spoken, and it is, [And] the Lord has not commanded [it]?
Owai ka mea nana e olelo, a ko no, Ke kauoha ole mai ka Haku?
38 From the mouth of the Most High does not go forth the evils and the good.
Mai ka waha mai o ka Mea kiekie, Aole i puka mai ka hewa, a me ka maikai,
39 Why does a living man sigh habitually, A man for his sin?
No ke aha la e ohumu ai ke kanaka e ola ana, O ke kanaka hoi no kona hoopaiia?
40 We search our ways, and investigate, And turn back to YHWH.
E huli kakou i ke ano o ko kakou mau aoao, E hoao hoi, a e hoi hou aku ia Iehova.
41 We lift up our heart on the hands to God in the heavens.
E hapai kakou i ko kakou mau naau a me na lima, I ke Akua iloko o ka lani.
42 We have transgressed and been rebellious, You have not forgiven.
Ua hana hewa aku makou, a na kipi, Aole no hoi oe i kala mai.
43 You have covered Yourself with anger, And pursue us; You have slain—You have not pitied.
Ua uhi mai oia ia makou i ka huhu, a ua hoomaau mai; Ua pepehi mai oe, aole i aloha mai.
44 You have covered Yourself with a cloud, So that prayer does not pass through.
Ua uhi no oe ia oe iho i ke ao, I komo ole aku ai ka pule.
45 Outcast and refuse You make us In the midst of the peoples.
Ua hoonoho oe ia makou i lepo i kahiliia. A i mea i hoowahawahaia iwaena o na kanaka.
46 Opened against us their mouth have all our enemies.
Ua hamama ku e mai ia makou na waha a pau o ko makou poe enemi.
47 Fear and a snare has been for us, Desolation and destruction.
Eia no imua o makou, ka makau a me ka lua, O ka lukuia, a me ke anaiia.
48 Streams of water go down my eye, For the destruction of the daughter of my people.
Ke kahe nei na muliwai ma ko'u mau maka, No ke anaiia o ke kaikamahine o ko'u poe kanaka.
49 My eye is poured out, And does not cease without intermission,
Ko kulu nei no ko'u maka, aole hooki, Aole hoi i hoomaha,
50 Until YHWH looks and sees from the heavens,
A nana mai o Iehova, a ike, mai ka lani mai.
51 My eye affects my soul, Because of all the daughters of my city.
Ke hoeha ko'u maka i ko'u naau, no na kaikamahine a pau o ko'u kulanakauhale.
52 Hunting—my enemies have hunted me without cause like the bird.
Me he manu la i hahai hala ole mai ai ko'u poe enemi ia'u me ka ikaika.
53 They have cut off my life in a pit, And they cast a stone against me.
Ua hooki lakou i ko'u ola ma ka lua, Ua hoolei mai i ka pohaku maluna o'u.
54 Waters have flowed over my head, I have said, I have been cut off.
Kahe ae la na wai maluna o kuu poo, Alaila, olelo iho la au, Ua hookiia mai au.
55 I called Your Name, O YHWH, from the lower pit.
Kahea aku la au i kou inoa, o Iehova, Mailoko ae o ka lua hohonu.
56 You have heard my voice, do not hide Your ear at my breathing—at my cry.
Ua lohe no oe i ko'u leo; Mai huna oe i kou pepeiao, i ko'u hanu ana, a me ko'u kahea ana.
57 You have drawn near in the day I call You, You have said, Do not fear.
Hookokoke mai no oe i ka la a'u i kahea aku ai la oe; I mai la hoi oe, Mai makau.
58 You have pleaded, O Lord, the pleadings of my soul, You have redeemed my life.
E ka Haku, ua kokua mai oe ia'u i ka hoopiiia o kuu uhane; Nau no i hoolapanai i ko'u ola.
59 You have seen, O YHWH, my overthrow, Judge my cause.
E Iehova, ua ike no oe i ko'u hookaumahaia, Nau no e hooponopono i ko'u hihia.
60 You have seen all their vengeance, All their thoughts of me.
Ua ike no oe i ko lakou hoomaau ana a pau, A me ko lakou mau manao ku e ia'u a pau.
61 You have heard their reproach, O YHWH, All their thoughts against me,
E Iehova, ua lohe no oe i ko lakou hoowahawaha ana, A me ko lakou mau manao ku e ia'u a pau:
62 The lips of my withstanders, Even their meditation against me all the day.
I na olelo a ka poe i ala ku e mai ia'u, A me ko lakou imi ku e ia'u a pau ka la.
63 Their sitting down, and their rising up, Behold attentively, I [am] their song.
E nana i ko lakou noho ana ilalo, a me ko lakou ku ana iluna, owau no ko lakou mele akaaka.
64 You return to them the deed, O YHWH, According to the work of their hands.
E hoihoi oe i ka hoopai ana maluna o lakou, e Iehova, E like hoi me ka hana ana a ko lakou mau lima.
65 You give to them a covered heart, Your curse to them.
E haawi oe ia lakou i ke kaumaha o ka naau, I kou hoino hoi, ia lakou.
66 You pursue in anger, and destroy them, From under the heavens of YHWH!
Me ka huhu oe e hahai aku ai, A e luku aku ia lakou, mailalo aku o na lani o Iehova.
