Judges 9
1 And Abimelech son of Jerubba‘al goes to Shechem, to his mother’s brothers, and speaks to them, and to all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,
Abimelec, hijo de Jerobaal, fue a Siquem, a los parientes de su madre, y habló con ellos y con toda la familia de la casa de su abuelo materno:
2 “Now speak in the ears of all the masters of Shechem, Which [is] good for you—seventy men ruling over you (all the sons of Jerubba‘al), or one man ruling over you? And you have remembered that I [am] your bone and your flesh.”
Les ruego que digan a oídos de todos los hombres de Siquem: ¿Es mejor para ustedes que los gobiernen 70 hombres, todos los hijos de Jerobaal, o que los gobierne un solo varón? Recuerden también que yo soy hueso y carne de ustedes.
3 And his mother’s brothers speak concerning him, in the ears of all the masters of Shechem, all these words, and their heart inclines after Abimelech, for they said, “He [is] our brother”;
Los hermanos de su madre dijeron todas estas palabras con respecto a él a oídos de todos los hombres de Siquem. El corazón de ellos se inclinó hacia Abimelec, pues decían: Es nuestro hermano.
4 and they give seventy [pieces] of silver out of the house of Ba‘al-Berith to him, and Abimelech hires vain and unstable men with them, and they go after him;
Le dieron 770 gramos de plata del templo de Baal-berit, con los cuales Abimelec contrató hombres ociosos y vagabundos que lo siguieron.
5 and he goes into the house of his father at Ophrah, and slays his brothers, sons of Jerubba‘al, seventy men, on one stone; and Jotham, youngest son of Jerubba‘al, is left, for he was hidden.
Luego fue a casa de su padre en Ofra, y sobre una misma piedra mató a sus hermanos, los hijos de Jerobaal, que eran 70 varones, salvo Jotam, el hijo menor de Jerobaal, porque se escondió.
6 And all the masters of Shechem are gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and come and cause Abimelech to reign for king at the oak of the camp which [is] in Shechem;
Entonces todos los hombres de Siquem y los de Bet-milo, se reunieron y proclamaron a Abimelec como rey en el roble de la piedra ritual que estaba en Siquem.
7 and they declare [it] to Jotham, and he goes and stands on the top of Mount Gerizim, and lifts up his voice, and calls, and says to them, “Listen to me, O masters of Shechem, and God listens to you:
Cuando se lo dijeron a Jotam, fue y se colocó en la cumbre de la montaña Gerizim, alzó su voz y clamó: Escúchenme, varones de Siquem, Y que escuche ʼElohim:
8 The trees have diligently gone to anoint a king over them, and they say to the olive, Reign over us.
Fueron una vez los árboles A ungir a uno como su rey, Y dijeron al olivo: Sé tú nuestro rey.
9 And the olive says to them, Have I ceased from my fatness, by which they honor gods and men, that I have gone to stagger over the trees?
Pero el olivo les dijo: ¿Dejaré mi aceite Con el cual ʼElohim y los hombres son honrados, Para mecerme por encima de los árboles?
10 And the trees say to the fig, Come, reign over us.
Entonces los árboles dijeron a la higuera: ¡Ven tú, sé nuestra reina!
11 And the fig says to them, Have I ceased from my sweetness, and my good increase, that I have gone to stagger over the trees?
Pero la higuera les dijo: ¿Dejaré mi dulzura y mi buen fruto, Para mecerme por encima de los árboles?
12 And the trees say to the vine, Come, reign over us.
Dijeron luego los árboles a la vid: ¡Ven tú, sé nuestra reina!
13 And the vine says to them, Have I ceased from my new wine, which is making gods and men glad, that I have gone to stagger over the trees?
Y la vid les respondió: ¿Dejaré mi mosto Que alegra a ʼElohim y a los hombres, Para mecerme por encima de los árboles?
14 And all the trees say to the bramble, Come, reign over us.
Todos los árboles dijeron a la zarza: ¡Ven tú, sé nuestra reina!
15 And the bramble says to the trees, If in truth you are anointing me for king over you, come, take refuge in my shadow; and if not—fire comes out from the bramble, and devours the cedars of Lebanon.
Y la zarza dijo a los árboles: ¡Si en verdad quieren ungirme Como reina de ustedes, Vengan a refugiarse bajo mi sombra! De lo contrario, salga fuego de la zarza Y devore los cedros del Líbano.
16 And now, if you have acted in truth and in sincerity when you make Abimelech king; and if you have done good with Jerubba‘al, and with his house; and if you have done to him according to the deed of his hands—
Ahora pues, si procedieron a ungir a Abimelec como su rey de buena fe e integridad, si obraron bien con Jerobaal y con su casa y si lo trataron según la obra de sus manos,
17 because my father has fought for you, and casts his life away from [him], and delivers you from the hand of Midian;
(pues mi padre combatió por ustedes al exponer su vida para librarlos de la mano de Madián,
18 and you have risen against the house of my father today, and slay his sons, seventy men, on one stone, and cause Abimelech son of his handmaid to reign over the masters of Shechem, because he [is] your brother—
pero hoy ustedes se levantaron contra la casa de mi padre y mataron a sus hijos, a 70 varones sobre una misma piedra, y proclamaron como rey de los varones de Siquem a Abimelec, hijo de su esclava, por cuanto es su hermano),
19 indeed, if in truth and in sincerity you have acted with Jerubba‘al and with his house this day, rejoice in Abimelech, and he rejoices—even he—in you;
si procedieron con verdad y rectitud hoy con Jerobaal y con su familia, entonces regocíjense con Abimelec y él con ustedes.
20 and if not—fire comes out from Abimelech and devours the masters of Shechem and the house of Millo, and fire comes out from the masters of Shechem and from the house of Millo, and devours Abimelech.”
Pero si no, entonces que salga fuego de Abimelec y consuma a los hombres de Siquem y de Bet-milo, y que de los hombres de Siquem y de Bet-milo salga fuego que consuma a Abimelec.
21 And Jotham hurries, and flees, and goes to Beer, and dwells there, from the face of his brother Abimelech.
Luego Jotam escapó, huyó y se fue a Beer. Allí permaneció por temor a su hermano Abimelec.
22 And Abimelech is prince over Israel [for] three years,
Abimelec gobernó sobre Israel tres años.
23 and God sends an evil spirit between Abimelech and the masters of Shechem, and the masters of Shechem deal treacherously with Abimelech,
Luego ʼElohim suscitó un espíritu maligno entre Abimelec y los varones de Siquem, de modo que los varones de Siquem traicionaron a Abimelec.
24 for [the] coming in of [the] violence [against] seventy sons of Jerubba‘al, and to place their blood on their brother Abimelech, who slew them, and on the masters of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to slay his brothers.
Así devolvieron la violencia hecha a los 70 hijos de Jerobaal e hicieron recaer su sangre sobre su hermano Abimelec, quien los asesinó, y sobre los varones de Siquem, quienes fortalecieron las manos de aquél para que asesinara a sus hermanos.
25 And the masters of Shechem set ambushes for him on the top of the hills, and rob everyone who passes over by them in the way, and it is declared to Abimelech.
Los varones de Siquem pusieron emboscadas contra [Abimelec] en las cumbres de las montañas, quienes robaban a los que pasaban junto a ellos por el camino. De esto se informó a Abimelec.
26 And Gaal son of Ebed comes—also his brothers—and they pass over into Shechem, and the masters of Shechem trust in him,
Entonces Gaal, hijo de Ebed, y sus hermanos llegaron y se pasaron a Siquem. Los varones de Siquem pusieron su confianza en él.
27 and go out into the field, and gather their vineyards, and tread, and make praises, and go into the house of their god, and eat and drink, and revile Abimelech.
Luego salieron al campo y cosecharon sus viñas, pisaron la uva e hicieron fiesta. Entraron en el templo de sus ʼelohim, comieron y bebieron, y maldijeron a Abimelec.
28 And Gaal son of Ebed says, “Who [is] Abimelech, and who [is] Shechem, that we serve him? Is [he] not son of Jerubba‘al? And his commander Zebul? The men of Hamor father of Shechem serve you, and why do we serve him—we?
Entonces Gaal, hijo de Ebed, dijo: ¿Quién es Abimelec y quiénes son los siquemitas para que les sirvamos? ¿No es el hijo de Jerobaal, y Zebul, su ayudante? ¡Sirvan a los descendientes de Hamor, padre de Siquem! ¿Por qué tenemos que servirle a él?
29 And oh that this people were in my hand—then I turn Abimelech aside”; and he says to Abimelech, “Increase your host, and come out.”
¡Quién colocara a este pueblo bajo mi mano! ¡Yo arruinaría a Abimelec! Diría a Abimelec: ¡Refuerza tu ejército y sal!
30 And Zebul, prince of the city, hears the words of Gaal son of Ebed, and his anger burns,
Cuando Zebul, gobernador de la ciudad, oyó las palabras de Gaal, hijo de Ebed, se encendió su ira
31 and he sends messengers to Abimelech deceitfully, saying, “Behold, Gaal son of Ebed and his brothers are coming into Shechem, and behold, they are fortifying the city against you;
y envió secretamente emisarios a Abimelec para decirle: Mira, Gaal, hijo de Ebed, y sus hermanos vinieron a Siquem y sublevan la ciudad contra ti.
32 and now, rise by night, you and the people who [are] with you, and lay wait in the field,
Ahora pues, ven de noche con la gente que está contigo y tiende una emboscada en el campo.
33 and it has been, in the morning, about the rising of the sun, you rise early, and have pushed against the city; and behold, he and the people who [are] with him are going out to you—and you have done to him as your hand finds.”
Por la mañana, al salir el sol, levántate y ataca la ciudad. Cuando él y el pueblo que lo acompaña salgan hacia ti, les harás lo que puedas.
34 And Abimelech rises, and all the people who [are] with him, by night, and they lay wait against Shechem—four detachments;
Entonces Abimelec, con toda la gente que estaba con él, se levantó de noche y tendió una emboscada contra Siquem, con cuatro compañías.
35 and Gaal son of Ebed goes out, and stands at the opening of the gate of the city, and Abimelech rises—also the people who [are] with him—from the ambush,
Entonces Gaal, hijo de Ebed, salió y se puso en la puerta de la ciudad, mientras que Abimelec y toda la gente que estaba con él, salían de la emboscada.
36 and Gaal sees the people and says to Zebul, “Behold, people are coming down from the top of the hills”; and Zebul says to him, “You are seeing the shadow of the hills like men.”
Y al ver Gaal al pueblo, dijo a Zebul: ¡Mira la gente que baja de las cumbres de las montañas! Zebul le respondió: ¡Tú ves la sombra de las montañas como si fueran hombres!
37 And Gaal adds yet to speak and says, “Behold, people are coming down from the high part of the land, and another detachment is coming by the way of the oak of Meonenim.”
Pero Gaal volvió a hablar: ¡Mira allí gente que baja de en medio de la tierra, y una tropa que viene por el camino del roble de los adivinos!
38 And Zebul says to him, “Where [is] your mouth now, in that you say, Who [is] Abimelech that we serve him? Is this not the people against which you have kicked? Please go out now and fight against it.”
Y Zebul le respondió: ¿Dónde está esa boca que decía: Quién es Abimelec para que le sirvamos? ¿No es este el pueblo que despreciaste? ¡Sal ahora y pelea contra él!
39 And Gaal goes out before the masters of Shechem, and fights against Abimelech,
Entonces Gaal salió al frente de los siquemitas, y entabló batalla contra Abimelec.
40 and Abimelech pursues him, and he flees from his presence, and many fall wounded—to the opening of the gate.
Pero Abimelec lo persiguió, y muchos cayeron muertos cuando huían hacia la puerta de la ciudad.
41 And Abimelech abides in Arumah, and Zebul casts out Gaal and his brothers from dwelling in Shechem.
Abimelec se quedó en Aruma, mientras que Zebul echó fuera a Gaal y a sus parientes para que no permanecieran en Siquem.
42 And it comes to pass, on the next day, that the people go out to the field, and they declare [it] to Abimelech,
Aconteció que al día siguiente el pueblo salió al campo. Se lo comunicaron a Abimelec,
43 and he takes the people, and divides them into three detachments, and lays wait in a field, and looks, and behold, the people are coming out from the city, and he rises against them, and strikes them.
quien tomó a su gente, la repartió en tres compañías y tendió una emboscada en el campo. Cuando vio que el pueblo salía de la ciudad, se levantó contra ellos para atacarlos.
44 And Abimelech and the detachments who [are] with him have pushed on, and stand at the opening of the gate of the city, and the two detachments have pushed against all who are in the field, and strike them,
Abimelec y la tropa que estaba con él se desplegaron y se pararon en la puerta de la ciudad, y las otras dos compañías se lanzaron contra todos los que estaban en el campo y los mataron.
45 and Abimelech has fought against the city all that day, and captures the city, and has slain the people who [are] in it, and he breaks down the city, and sows it [with] salt.
Abimelec combatió contra la ciudad todo aquel día, la capturó y mató a la gente que estaba en ella. Arrasó la ciudad y la sembró de sal.
46 And all the masters of the Tower of Shechem hear, and go into the high place of the house of the god Berith,
Al oírlo, todos los habitantes de la torre de Siquem se replegaron a la fortaleza del templo de ʼEl-berit.
47 and it is declared to Abimelech that all the masters of the Tower of Shechem have gathered themselves together,
Cuando se dio aviso a Abimelec de que los habitantes de la torre de Siquem estaban reunidos,
48 and Abimelech goes up to Mount Zalmon, he and all the people who [are] with him, and Abimelech takes the great axe in his hand, and cuts off a bough of the trees, and lifts it up, and sets [it] on his shoulder, and says to the people who [are] with him, “What you have seen me do—hurry, do as I [have done].”
Abimelec subió a la montaña Salmón con toda la gente que lo acompañaba. Luego Abimelec tomó un hacha en su mano, cortó una rama de los árboles, la cual alzó sobre su hombro, y dijo al pueblo que estaba con él: Lo que me vean hacer, apresúrense a hacerlo como yo.
49 And every one of the people cuts down his bough and goes after Abimelech, and sets [them] at the high place, and burns the high place with fire by these, and also all the men of the Tower of Shechem die—about one thousand men and women.
Todo el pueblo cortó también su rama, y cada uno siguió a Abimelec. Las pusieron contra la fortaleza, prendieron fuego a la fortaleza con ellas, de modo que todos los habitantes de la torre de Siquem murieron, unos 1.000 entre hombres y mujeres.
50 And Abimelech goes to Thebez, and encamps against Thebez, and captures it,
Después Abimelec marchó a Tebes, la sitió y la capturó.
51 and a strong tower has been in the midst of the city, and all the men and the women flee there, and all the masters of the city, and they shut [it] behind them, and go up on the roof of the tower.
Pero en medio de la ciudad estaba una torre fuerte donde estaban refugiados todos los hombres y mujeres, con todos los jefes de la ciudad, quienes, cerraron las puertas tras ellos y subieron a la azotea de la torre.
52 And Abimelech comes to the tower, and fights against it, and draws near to the opening of the tower to burn it with fire,
Al llegar Abimelec a la torre la atacó y se acercó hasta su puerta para ponerle fuego.
53 and a certain woman casts a piece of a millstone on the head of Abimelech, and breaks his skull,
Entonces, una mujer arrojó una piedra encimera de molino sobre la cabeza de Abimelec y le partió el cráneo.
54 and he calls quickly to the young man carrying his weapons and says to him, “Draw your sword, and you have put me to death, lest they say of me—A woman slew him”; and his young man pierced him through, and he dies.
Él llamó apresuradamente a su joven escudero y le dijo: Desenvaina tu espada y mátame, para que no se diga de mí: ¡Una mujer lo mató! Y el muchacho lo traspasó y murió.
55 And the men of Israel see that Abimelech [is] dead, and each one goes to his place;
Cuando los hombres de Israel vieron que Abimelec murió, cada uno se fue a su lugar.
56 and God turns back the evil of Abimelech which he did to his father to slay his seventy brothers;
Así ʼElohim retribuyó a Abimelec el mal que hizo contra su padre, al asesinar a sus 70 hermanos.
57 and God has returned all the evil of the men of Shechem on their [own] head, and the cursing of Jotham son of Jerubba‘al comes to them.
También toda la maldad de los hombres de Siquem ʼElohim la hizo caer sobre sus propias cabezas, de manera que vino sobre ellos la maldición de Jotam, hijo de Jerobaal.
