Judges 9
1 And Abimelech son of Jerubba‘al goes to Shechem, to his mother’s brothers, and speaks to them, and to all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,
૧યરુબાલનો દીકરો અબીમેલેખ શખેમમાં પોતાની માતાના સંબંધીઓ પાસે ગયો અને તેણે પોતાના મોસાળના આખા કુટુંબનાં લોકોને કહ્યું,
2 “Now speak in the ears of all the masters of Shechem, Which [is] good for you—seventy men ruling over you (all the sons of Jerubba‘al), or one man ruling over you? And you have remembered that I [am] your bone and your flesh.”
૨“કૃપા કરીને શખેમના સર્વ આગેવાનો સાંભળે તે રીતે કહો ‘યરુબાલના સર્વ સિત્તેર દીકરા, તમારા પર રાજ કરે અથવા એક જણ તમારા પર રાજ કરે, એ બેમાંથી તમારે માટે વધારે સારું શું છે? યાદ રાખો કે હું તમારાં હાડકાંનો તથા તમારાં માંસનો છું.”
3 And his mother’s brothers speak concerning him, in the ears of all the masters of Shechem, all these words, and their heart inclines after Abimelech, for they said, “He [is] our brother”;
૩તેના મામાઓએ શખેમના સર્વ આગેવાનોને એ વાતો કહી અને તેઓ અબીમેલેખનું પાલન કરવાને સંમત થયા, માટે તેઓએ કહ્યું કે, “તે આપણો ભાણેજ છે.”
4 and they give seventy [pieces] of silver out of the house of Ba‘al-Berith to him, and Abimelech hires vain and unstable men with them, and they go after him;
૪તેઓએ બઆલ-બરીથના મંદિરમાંથી તેને ચાંદીના સિત્તેર રૂપિયા આપ્યાં અને અબીમેલેખે તે વડે પોતાની સરદારી નીચે રહેવા સારુ હલકા અને અધમ માણસો, જેઓ તેની પાછળ ગયા તેઓને રાખ્યા.
5 and he goes into the house of his father at Ophrah, and slays his brothers, sons of Jerubba‘al, seventy men, on one stone; and Jotham, youngest son of Jerubba‘al, is left, for he was hidden.
૫ઓફ્રામાં તે પોતાના પિતાના ઘરે ગયો અને એક પથ્થર પર પોતાના સિત્તેર ભાઈઓને મારી નાખ્યા હતા, પણ યરુબાલનો સૌથી નાનો દીકરો યોથામ બચી ગયો હતો, કેમ કે તે સંતાઈ ગયો હતો.
6 And all the masters of Shechem are gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and come and cause Abimelech to reign for king at the oak of the camp which [is] in Shechem;
૬શખેમના તથા બેથ-મિલ્લોના સર્વ આગેવાનો સાથે આવ્યા અને તેઓએ જઈને અબીમેલેખને, શખેમમાં જે સ્તંભ હતો તેની પાસેના એલોન વૃક્ષ આગળ રાજા બનાવ્યો.
7 and they declare [it] to Jotham, and he goes and stands on the top of Mount Gerizim, and lifts up his voice, and calls, and says to them, “Listen to me, O masters of Shechem, and God listens to you:
૭જયારે યોથામને આ કહેવામાં આવ્યું, ત્યારે તે જઈને ગરીઝીમ પર્વતના શિખર પર ઊભો રહ્યો. તેણે ઊંચા અવાજે તેઓને પોકારીને કહ્યું, “ઓ શખેમના આગેવાનો, મારું સાંભળો, કે જેથી ઈશ્વર તમારું સાંભળે.
8 The trees have diligently gone to anoint a king over them, and they say to the olive, Reign over us.
૮એકવાર અંજીરના વૃક્ષો એક રાજાને અભિષેક વડે તેઓના પોતાના પર નીમવાને ગયાં. અને તેઓએ જૈતૂનવૃક્ષને કહ્યું, ‘અમારા પર રાજ કર.’”
9 And the olive says to them, Have I ceased from my fatness, by which they honor gods and men, that I have gone to stagger over the trees?
૯પણ જૈતૂનવૃક્ષે તેઓને કહ્યું, ‘હું તો ઈશ્વરના અને માણસના સન્માનને માટે વપરાઉં છું, તે પડતું મૂકીને હું શા માટે અન્ય વૃક્ષો પર પ્રભાવ પાડવા જાઉં?’
10 And the trees say to the fig, Come, reign over us.
૧૦પછી વૃક્ષોએ અંજીરીને કહ્યું, ‘આવીને અમારા પર રાજ કર.’
11 And the fig says to them, Have I ceased from my sweetness, and my good increase, that I have gone to stagger over the trees?
૧૧પણ અંજીરીના વૃક્ષે તેઓને કહ્યું, ‘મારી મીઠાશ તથા મારાં સારાં ફળ મૂકી દેવા જોઈએ, જેથી બીજાં વૃક્ષો પર પ્રભાવ પાડવા માટે હું શા માટે આવું?’”
12 And the trees say to the vine, Come, reign over us.
૧૨વૃક્ષોએ દ્રાક્ષવેલાને કહ્યું, ‘આવીને અમારા પર રાજ કર.’
13 And the vine says to them, Have I ceased from my new wine, which is making gods and men glad, that I have gone to stagger over the trees?
૧૩દ્રાક્ષાવેલાએ તેઓને કહ્યું, ‘શું મારે મારો નવો દ્રાક્ષારસ જે ઈશ્વરને તથા માણસને આનંદિત કરે છે તે મૂકીને, બીજાં વૃક્ષો પર પ્રભાવ પાડવા માટે શા માટે જવું જોઈએ?’
14 And all the trees say to the bramble, Come, reign over us.
૧૪પછી સર્વ વૃક્ષોએ ઝાંખરાંને કહ્યું, ‘આવીને અમારા પર રાજ કર.’”
15 And the bramble says to the trees, If in truth you are anointing me for king over you, come, take refuge in my shadow; and if not—fire comes out from the bramble, and devours the cedars of Lebanon.
૧૫ઝાંખરાએ વૃક્ષોને કહ્યું, ‘જો તમારે ખરેખર તમારા પર મને રાજા તરીકે અભિષિક્ત કરવો હોય, તો આવો અને મારી છાયા પર ભરોસો રાખો. જો એમ નહિ, તો ઝાંખરામાંથી અગ્નિ નીકળીને લબાનોનનાં દેવદાર વૃક્ષોને બાળી નાખો.’
16 And now, if you have acted in truth and in sincerity when you make Abimelech king; and if you have done good with Jerubba‘al, and with his house; and if you have done to him according to the deed of his hands—
૧૬તેથી હવે, જયારે તમે અબીમેલેખને રાજા બનાવ્યો, ત્યારે તમે જો સત્યતાથી તથા પ્રામાણિકપણે વર્ત્યા હોય અને જો તમે યરુબાલ તથા તેના ઘરનાંની સાથે સારી રીતે વર્ત્યા હોય, જો જેવો તે યોગ્ય હોય તેવી જ તમે તેને સજા કરી હોય.
17 because my father has fought for you, and casts his life away from [him], and delivers you from the hand of Midian;
૧૭અને તમે વિચારો છો કે મારા પિતાએ તમારે સારુ લડાઈ કરી છે, પોતાનો જીવ જોખમમાં નાખીને તમને મિદ્યાનીઓના હાથમાંથી છોડાવ્યાં.
18 and you have risen against the house of my father today, and slay his sons, seventy men, on one stone, and cause Abimelech son of his handmaid to reign over the masters of Shechem, because he [is] your brother—
૧૮પણ આજે તમે મારા પિતાના ઘરની વિરુદ્ધ ઊભા થયા છો અને તેના સિત્તેર પુત્રોને એક પથ્થર પર મારી નાખ્યા છે. અને તમે તેની દાસીના પુત્ર અબીમેલેખને શખેમનાં આગેવાનો પર રાજા બનાવ્યો, કેમ કે તે તમારો સંબંધી છે.
19 indeed, if in truth and in sincerity you have acted with Jerubba‘al and with his house this day, rejoice in Abimelech, and he rejoices—even he—in you;
૧૯ત્યારે જો તમે યરુબાલની તથા તેના ઘરનાંની સાથે પ્રામાણિકતાથી તથા સત્યનિષ્ઠતાથી વર્ત્યા હોય, તો તમે અબીમેલેખમાં આનંદ કરો અને તેને પણ તમારામાં આનંદ કરવા દો.
20 and if not—fire comes out from Abimelech and devours the masters of Shechem and the house of Millo, and fire comes out from the masters of Shechem and from the house of Millo, and devours Abimelech.”
૨૦પણ જો તેમ નહિ, તો અબીમેલેખમાંથી અગ્નિ નીકળો અને શખેમના માણસોને તથા મિલ્લોના ઘરનાઓને બાળી નાખો. અને શખેમના માણસોમાંથી તથા બેથ-મિલ્લોમાંથી અગ્નિ નીકળો અને અબીમેલેખને બાળી નાખો.”
21 And Jotham hurries, and flees, and goes to Beer, and dwells there, from the face of his brother Abimelech.
૨૧યોથામ ભાગીને દૂર ચાલ્યો ગયો અને બેરમાં જઈને તે ત્યાં રહ્યો. કેમ કે તે તેના ભાઈ, અબીમેલેખથી ઘણું દૂર હતું.
22 And Abimelech is prince over Israel [for] three years,
૨૨અબીમેલેખે ઇઝરાયલ પર ત્રણ વર્ષ રાજ કર્યું.
23 and God sends an evil spirit between Abimelech and the masters of Shechem, and the masters of Shechem deal treacherously with Abimelech,
૨૩ઈશ્વરે અબીમેલેખ તથા શખેમના આગેવાનો વચ્ચે દુષ્ટ આત્મા મોકલ્યો. શખેમના આગેવાનોએ અબીમેલેખનો વિશ્વાસઘાત કર્યો.
24 for [the] coming in of [the] violence [against] seventy sons of Jerubba‘al, and to place their blood on their brother Abimelech, who slew them, and on the masters of Shechem, who strengthened his hands to slay his brothers.
૨૪ઈશ્વરે આ કર્યું જેથી યરુબાલના સિત્તેર દીકરા પર જે જુલમ ગુજારાયો હતો તેનો બદલો લેવાય અને તેઓના ખૂનનો દોષ તેઓના ભાઈ અબીમેલેખ પર મૂકાય; આમાં શખેમના માણસો પણ જવાબદાર હતા કેમ કે તેઓએ તેને તેના ભાઈઓનું ખૂન કરવામાં મદદ કરી હતી.
25 And the masters of Shechem set ambushes for him on the top of the hills, and rob everyone who passes over by them in the way, and it is declared to Abimelech.
૨૫જેથી શખેમના આગેવાનોએ પર્વતના શિખર પર લાગ તાકીને તેના પર છાપો મારનારાઓને બેસાડ્યા અને જે સર્વ તેઓની પાસે થઈને તે માર્ગે જતા હતા તે સર્વને તેઓ લૂંટી લેતાં હતા. આ બાબત અબીમેલેખને જણાવવાંમાં આવી.
26 And Gaal son of Ebed comes—also his brothers—and they pass over into Shechem, and the masters of Shechem trust in him,
૨૬એબેદનો દીકરો ગાઆલ પોતાના સંબંધીઓની સાથે આવ્યો અને તેઓ શખેમમાં ગયા. શખેમના આગેવાનોને તેના પર વિશ્વાસ હતો.
27 and go out into the field, and gather their vineyards, and tread, and make praises, and go into the house of their god, and eat and drink, and revile Abimelech.
૨૭તેઓ ખેતરમાં ગયા અને પોતાની દ્રાક્ષવાડીમાંથી દ્રાક્ષો ભેગી કરીને તેને નિચોવીને મિજબાની કરી. તેઓએ પોતાના દેવના મંદિરમાં પર્વનું આયોજન કર્યું, જ્યાં તેઓએ ખાઈ પીને અબીમેલેખને શાપ આપ્યો.
28 And Gaal son of Ebed says, “Who [is] Abimelech, and who [is] Shechem, that we serve him? Is [he] not son of Jerubba‘al? And his commander Zebul? The men of Hamor father of Shechem serve you, and why do we serve him—we?
૨૮એબેદના દીકરા ગાઆલે કહ્યું, “અબીમેલેખ કોણ છે અને શખેમ કોણ છે, કે અમે તેની સેવા કરીએ? શું તે યરુબાલનો દીકરો નથી? અને શું ઝબુલ તેનો અધિકારી નથી? તમે ભલે શખેમના પિતા, હમોરના લોકોની સેવા કરો! શા માટે અમે તેની સેવા કરીએ?
29 And oh that this people were in my hand—then I turn Abimelech aside”; and he says to Abimelech, “Increase your host, and come out.”
૨૯હું ઇચ્છા રાખું છું કે આ લોકો મારી આજ્ઞા પ્રમાણે કરે! તો હું અબીમેલેખને દૂર કરીશ. હું અબીમેલેખને કહીશ અને મોકલીશ, ‘તારા સૈન્યને બહાર બોલાવી લાવ.’”
30 And Zebul, prince of the city, hears the words of Gaal son of Ebed, and his anger burns,
૩૦જયારે નગરના અધિકારી ઝબુલે, એબેદના દીકરા ગાઆલનાં શબ્દો સાંભળ્યાં, ત્યારે તે ક્રોધે ભરાયો.
31 and he sends messengers to Abimelech deceitfully, saying, “Behold, Gaal son of Ebed and his brothers are coming into Shechem, and behold, they are fortifying the city against you;
૩૧તેણે અબીમેલેખને છેતરવા સંદેશવાહકોને મોકલીને કહેવડાવ્યું, “જો, એબેદનો દીકરો ગાઆલ અને તેના સંબંધીઓ શખેમમાં આવે છે અને તેઓ નગરને તારી વિરુદ્ધ ઉશ્કેરે છે.
32 and now, rise by night, you and the people who [are] with you, and lay wait in the field,
૩૨હવે રાત્રે તું તથા તારી સાથેના સૈનિકો ઊઠો અને મેદાનમાં છાપા મારવાની તૈયારી કરો.
33 and it has been, in the morning, about the rising of the sun, you rise early, and have pushed against the city; and behold, he and the people who [are] with him are going out to you—and you have done to him as your hand finds.”
૩૩પછી સવારમાં સૂર્ય ઊગે તે પહેલાં, તું વહેલો ઊઠીને નગર પર હુમલો કર. અને જયારે તે તથા તેની સાથેના લોક તારી વિરુદ્ધ ચઢાઈ કરે, ત્યારે તું જે કરી શકે તે તેમને કરજે.”
34 And Abimelech rises, and all the people who [are] with him, by night, and they lay wait against Shechem—four detachments;
૩૪તેથી અબીમેલેખ તથા તેની સાથેના સર્વ માણસો ઊઠ્યા અને તેઓ શખેમ વિરુદ્ધ તેમની ચાર ટુકડીઓ બનાવીને સંતાઈ રહ્યા.
35 and Gaal son of Ebed goes out, and stands at the opening of the gate of the city, and Abimelech rises—also the people who [are] with him—from the ambush,
૩૫એબેદના દીકરો ગાઆલ બહાર જઈને નગરના દરવાજાના પ્રવેશદ્વાર આગળ ઊભો રહ્યો. અબીમેલેખ અને તેની સાથેના લોક તેમની સંતાવાની જગ્યાએથી બહાર આવ્યા.
36 and Gaal sees the people and says to Zebul, “Behold, people are coming down from the top of the hills”; and Zebul says to him, “You are seeing the shadow of the hills like men.”
૩૬જયારે ગાઆલે તે માણસોને જોયા, ત્યારે તેણે ઝબુલને કહ્યું, “જો, પર્વતના શિખર ઉપરથી માણસો ઊતરી આવે છે!” ઝબુલે તેને કહ્યું, “તને પર્વતોના ઓળા માણસો જેવા દેખાય છે.”
37 And Gaal adds yet to speak and says, “Behold, people are coming down from the high part of the land, and another detachment is coming by the way of the oak of Meonenim.”
૩૭ગાઆલે ફરી તેને કહ્યું, “જો, માણસો દેશની મધ્યમાં થઈને નીચે ઊતરી આવે છે અને બીજું એક ટોળું એલોન વૃક્ષને માર્ગે થઈને આવે છે.”
38 And Zebul says to him, “Where [is] your mouth now, in that you say, Who [is] Abimelech that we serve him? Is this not the people against which you have kicked? Please go out now and fight against it.”
૩૮ત્યારે ઝબુલે તેને કહ્યું, “હવે તારા અભિમાની શબ્દો ક્યાં ગયા, તેં હમણાં જે કહ્યું હતું, “અબીમેલેખ કોણ છે કે અમે તેની સેવા કરીએ?’ જે લોકોને તેં ધિક્કાર્યા છે તે શું એ નથી? હવે બહાર જઈને તેઓની વિરુદ્ધ લડાઈ કર.”
39 And Gaal goes out before the masters of Shechem, and fights against Abimelech,
૩૯ગાઆલ બહાર જઈને શખેમના માણસોની આગેવાની કરી અને અબીમેલેખની સાથે લડાઈ કરી.
40 and Abimelech pursues him, and he flees from his presence, and many fall wounded—to the opening of the gate.
૪૦અબીમેલેખે તેને નસાડ્યો અને ગાઆલ તેની આગળથી નાસી ગયો. નગરના દરવાજાના પ્રવેશદ્વાર પાસે ઘણાં માણસો ઘાયલ થઈને પડ્યા.
41 And Abimelech abides in Arumah, and Zebul casts out Gaal and his brothers from dwelling in Shechem.
૪૧અબીમેલેખ અરુમામાં રહ્યો. ઝબુલે ગાઆલ તથા તેના સંબંધીઓને શખેમમાંથી બહાર કાઢી મૂક્યા.
42 And it comes to pass, on the next day, that the people go out to the field, and they declare [it] to Abimelech,
૪૨બીજે દિવસે શખેમના લોકો મેદાનમાં ગયા અને અબીમેલેખને તેઓએ આ સમાચાર કહ્યા.
43 and he takes the people, and divides them into three detachments, and lays wait in a field, and looks, and behold, the people are coming out from the city, and he rises against them, and strikes them.
૪૩તે તેના લોકોને લઈને, તેઓને ત્રણ ટોળકીઓમાં વહેંચીને મેદાનમાં સંતાઈ રહ્યો. તેણે જોયું કે, લોકો નગરમાંથી બહાર આવી રહ્યા હતા અને તેણે તેઓ પર હુમલો કરીને તેઓને મારી નાખ્યા.
44 And Abimelech and the detachments who [are] with him have pushed on, and stand at the opening of the gate of the city, and the two detachments have pushed against all who are in the field, and strike them,
૪૪અબીમેલેખ તથા તેની સાથેની ટોળીઓએ આગળ ધસીને નગરના દરવાજાના પ્રવેશદ્વારને બંધ કરી દીધો. બીજી બે ટોળીઓએ જે લોકો મેદાનમાં હતા તે સર્વ ઊપર હુમલો કરીને તેઓને મારી નાખ્યા.
45 and Abimelech has fought against the city all that day, and captures the city, and has slain the people who [are] in it, and he breaks down the city, and sows it [with] salt.
૪૫અબીમેલેખે આખો દિવસ નગરની સામે લડાઈ કરી. તેણે નગરને કબજે કર્યું અને તેમાં જે લોકો હતા તેઓને મારી નાખ્યા. તેણે નગર તોડી પાડ્યું અને તેમાં મીઠું વેર્યું.
46 And all the masters of the Tower of Shechem hear, and go into the high place of the house of the god Berith,
૪૬જયારે શખેમના કિલ્લાના સર્વ આગેવાનોએ સાંભળ્યું, ત્યારે તેઓ એલ-બરીથના ઘરના ભોંયરામાં પ્રવેશ્યા.
47 and it is declared to Abimelech that all the masters of the Tower of Shechem have gathered themselves together,
૪૭અબીમેલેખને ખબર મળી કે શખેમના કિલ્લાના સર્વ આગેવાનો એકત્ર થયા છે.
48 and Abimelech goes up to Mount Zalmon, he and all the people who [are] with him, and Abimelech takes the great axe in his hand, and cuts off a bough of the trees, and lifts it up, and sets [it] on his shoulder, and says to the people who [are] with him, “What you have seen me do—hurry, do as I [have done].”
૪૮અબીમેલેખ તથા તેની સાથેના સર્વ લોકો સાલ્મોન પર્વત પર ગયા. અબીમેલેખે પોતાના હાથમાં એક કુહાડી લઈને વૃક્ષની ડાળીઓ કાપી. તેણે પોતાના ખભા પર મૂકીને તેની સાથેના લોકોને હુકમ કર્યો, “તમે મને જે કરતાં જોયો છે તે પ્રમાણે તમે પણ જલ્દીથી કરો.”
49 And every one of the people cuts down his bough and goes after Abimelech, and sets [them] at the high place, and burns the high place with fire by these, and also all the men of the Tower of Shechem die—about one thousand men and women.
૪૯તેથી સર્વ લોકો પણ ડાળીઓ કાપીને અબીમેલેખની પાછળ ચાલ્યા. અને તે ડાળીઓ કિલ્લાને લગાડીને તે વડે કિલ્લાને સળગાવી દીધો અને તેથી શખેમના કિલ્લાનાં સર્વ માણસો આશરે હજારેક પુરુષ તથા સ્ત્રીઓ મરણ પામ્યાં.
50 And Abimelech goes to Thebez, and encamps against Thebez, and captures it,
૫૦પછી અબીમેલેખ તેબેસ ગયો અને તેબેસની સામે છાવણી નાખીને તે કબજે કર્યું.
51 and a strong tower has been in the midst of the city, and all the men and the women flee there, and all the masters of the city, and they shut [it] behind them, and go up on the roof of the tower.
૫૧પણ તે નગરમાં એક મજબૂત કિલ્લો હતો અને તેમાં નગરનાં સર્વ પુરુષ, સ્ત્રીઓ તથા નગરના સઘળા આગેવાનો નાસી ગયા અને અંદરથી કિલ્લાનું બારણું બંધ કર્યું. પછી તેઓ કિલ્લાની છત પર ચઢી ગયા.
52 And Abimelech comes to the tower, and fights against it, and draws near to the opening of the tower to burn it with fire,
૫૨અબીમેલેખે કિલ્લા આગળ આવીને તેની સામે લડાઈ કરી અને આગ લગાડવા માટે કિલ્લાના બારણાની નજીક આવ્યો.
53 and a certain woman casts a piece of a millstone on the head of Abimelech, and breaks his skull,
૫૩પણ એક સ્ત્રીએ ઘંટીનું ઉપલું પડ અબીમેલેખના માથા પર ફેંકીને તેની ખોપરી ફોડી નાખી.
54 and he calls quickly to the young man carrying his weapons and says to him, “Draw your sword, and you have put me to death, lest they say of me—A woman slew him”; and his young man pierced him through, and he dies.
૫૪પછી તેણે તરત એક જુવાનને બોલાવીને એટલે જે તેનો શસ્ત્રવાહક હતો તેને કહ્યું, “તારી તલવાર કાઢીને મને મારી નાખ, કે કોઈ મારા વિષે એમ ન કહે, ‘એક સ્ત્રીએ મને મારી નાખ્યો.’ તેથી તે જુવાને તેને તલવારથી મારી નાખ્યો અને તે મરણ પામ્યો.
55 And the men of Israel see that Abimelech [is] dead, and each one goes to his place;
૫૫જયારે ઇઝરાયલના માણસોએ જોયું કે અબીમેલેખ મરણ પામ્યો છે, ત્યારે તેઓ પોતાના ઘરે પાછા ગયા.
56 and God turns back the evil of Abimelech which he did to his father to slay his seventy brothers;
૫૬અને આમ ઈશ્વરે અબીમેલેખના દુરાચાર પ્રમાણે તેને બદલો આપ્યો, તેણે પોતાના સિત્તેર ભાઈઓની હત્યા કરેલી હતી.
57 and God has returned all the evil of the men of Shechem on their [own] head, and the cursing of Jotham son of Jerubba‘al comes to them.
૫૭શખેમના લોકોની બધી દુષ્ટતાનો બદલો ઈશ્વરે તેઓને આપ્યો અને યરુબાલના દીકરા યોથામનો શાપ તેઓ પર આવ્યો.
