Judges 4
1 And the sons of Israel add to do evil in the eyes of YHWH when Ehud is dead,
Les enfants d'Israël firent encore ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, après la mort d'Éhud.
2 and YHWH sells them into the hand of Jabin king of Canaan, who has reigned in Hazor, and Sisera [is] the head of his host, and he is dwelling in Harosheth of the nations;
Yahvé les vendit entre les mains de Jabin, roi de Canaan, qui régnait à Hatsor, et dont le chef de l'armée était Sisera, qui habitait à Harosheth, chez les païens.
3 and the sons of Israel cry to YHWH, for he has nine hundred chariots of iron, and he has oppressed the sons of Israel mightily [for] twenty years.
Les enfants d'Israël crièrent à Yahvé, car il avait neuf cents chars de fer, et il opprima puissamment les enfants d'Israël pendant vingt ans.
4 And Deborah, a woman, a prophetess, wife of Lapidoth, she is judging Israel at that time,
En ce temps-là, Débora, prophétesse, femme de Lappidoth, jugeait Israël.
5 and she is dwelling under the palm-tree of Deborah, between Ramah and Beth-El, in the hill-country of Ephraim, and the sons of Israel go up to her for judgment.
Elle habitait sous le palmier de Débora, entre Rama et Béthel, dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, et les enfants d'Israël montaient vers elle pour être jugés.
6 And she sends and calls for Barak son of Abinoam, out of Kedesh-Naphtali, and says to him, “Has YHWH, God of Israel, not commanded? Go, and you have drawn toward Mount Tabor, and have taken with you ten thousand men, out of the sons of Naphtali, and out of the sons of Zebulun,
Elle envoya appeler Barak, fils d'Abinoam, de Kedesh Nephtali, et lui dit: « L'Éternel, le Dieu d'Israël, n'a-t-il pas donné cet ordre: Va ouvrir le chemin du mont Thabor, et prends avec toi dix mille hommes des fils de Nephtali et des fils de Zabulon?
7 and I have drawn to you, to the Brook of Kishon, Sisera, head of the host of Jabin, and his chariot, and his multitude, and have given him into your hand.”
J'attirerai vers toi, vers le fleuve Kishon, Sisera, chef de l'armée de Jabin, avec ses chars et sa multitude, et je le livrerai entre tes mains. »
8 And Barak says to her, “If you go with me, then I have gone; and if you do not go with me, I do not go”;
Barak lui dit: « Si tu veux aller avec moi, j'irai; mais si tu ne veux pas aller avec moi, je n'irai pas. »
9 and she says, “I certainly go with you; only, surely your glory is not on the way which you are going, for YHWH sells Sisera into the hand of a woman”; and Deborah rises and goes with Barak to Kedesh.
Elle répondit: « Je veux bien aller avec toi. Cependant, le voyage que tu feras ne sera pas pour ton honneur, car Yahvé vendra Sisera entre les mains d'une femme. » Déborah se leva et partit avec Barak à Kedesh.
10 And Barak calls Zebulun and Naphtali to Kedesh, and he goes up—ten thousand men [are] at his feet—and Deborah goes up with him.
Barak convoqua Zabulon et Nephtali à Kédesh. Dix mille hommes le suivirent, et Débora monta avec lui.
11 And Heber the Kenite has been separated from the Kenite, from the sons of Hobab father-in-law of Moses, and he stretches out his tent to the oak in Zaanaim, which [is] by Kedesh.
Or Héber, le Kénien, s'était séparé des Kéniens, des fils de Hobab, beau-frère de Moïse, et avait dressé sa tente jusqu'au chêne de Zaanannim, qui est près de Kédesh.
12 And they declare to Sisera that Barak son of Abinoam has gone up to Mount Tabor,
Ils dirent à Sisera que Barak, fils d'Abinoam, était monté sur le mont Thabor.
13 and Sisera calls all his chariots, nine hundred chariots of iron, and all the people who [are] with him, from Harosheth of the nations, to the Brook of Kishon.
Sisera rassembla tous ses chars, neuf cents chars de fer, et tout le peuple qui était avec lui, depuis Harosheth des Gentils jusqu'au fleuve Kishon.
14 And Deborah says to Barak, “Rise, for this [is] the day in which YHWH has given Sisera into your hand; has YHWH not gone out before you?” And Barak goes down from Mount Tabor, and ten thousand men after him.
Déborah dit à Barak: « Va, car c'est le jour où l'Éternel a livré Sisera entre tes mains. L'Éternel n'est-il pas sorti avant toi? » Barak descendit donc du mont Thabor, et dix mille hommes après lui.
15 And YHWH destroys Sisera, and all the chariots, and all the camp, by the mouth of the sword, before Barak, and Sisera comes down from off the chariot, and flees on his feet.
Yahvé confondit Sisera, tous ses chars et toute son armée, au fil de l'épée, devant Barak. Sisera abandonna son char et s'enfuit à pied.
16 And Barak has pursued after the chariots and after the camp, to Harosheth of the nations, and all the camp of Sisera falls by the mouth of the sword—there has not been left even one.
Mais Barak poursuivit les chars et l'armée jusqu'à Harosheth des Gentils, et toute l'armée de Sisera tomba au fil de l'épée. Il ne resta pas un seul homme.
17 And Sisera has fled on his feet to the tent of Jael wife of Heber the Kenite, for [there is] peace between Jabin king of Hazor and the house of Heber the Kenite;
Mais Sisera s'enfuit sur ses pieds jusqu'à la tente de Jaël, femme de Héber le Kénien, car il y avait paix entre Jabin, roi de Hatsor, et la maison de Héber le Kénien.
18 and Jael goes out to meet Sisera and says to him, “Turn aside, my lord, turn aside to me, do not fear”; and he turns aside to her, into the tent, and she covers him with a mantle.
Jaël sortit à la rencontre de Sisera et lui dit: « Rentre, mon seigneur, rentre chez moi; n'aie pas peur. » Il entra chez elle dans la tente, et elle le couvrit d'un tapis.
19 And he says to her, “Please give me a little water to drink, for I am thirsty”; and she opens the bottle of milk, and gives him to drink, and covers him.
Il lui dit: « Donne-moi un peu d'eau à boire, car j'ai soif. » Elle a ouvert un récipient de lait, lui a donné à boire et l'a couvert.
20 And he says to her, “Stand at the opening of the tent, and it has been, if any comes in, and has asked you and said, Is there a man here? That you have said, There is not.”
Il lui dit: « Tiens-toi à l'entrée de la tente, et si quelqu'un vient te demander: « Y a-t-il un homme ici? », tu diras: « Non ». »
21 And Jael wife of Heber takes the pin of the tent, and takes the hammer in her hand, and goes to him gently, and strikes the pin into his temples, and it fastens in the earth—and he has been fast asleep, and is weary—and he dies.
Alors Jaël, femme de Héber, prit un piquet de tente, prit un marteau dans sa main, s'approcha doucement de lui, et frappa le piquet dans ses tempes, et il perça jusqu'au sol, car il était plongé dans un profond sommeil; il s'évanouit et mourut.
22 And behold, Barak is pursuing Sisera, and Jael comes out to meet him, and says to him, “Come, and I show you the man whom you are seeking”; and he comes to her, and behold, Sisera is fallen—dead, and the pin [is] in his temples.
Voici, comme Barak poursuivait Sisera, Jaël sortit à sa rencontre et lui dit: « Viens, je vais te montrer l'homme que tu cherches. » Il vint à elle; et voici, Sisera était étendu mort, et le piquet de la tente était dans ses tempes.
23 And God humbles Jabin king of Canaan before the sons of Israel on that day,
Ce jour-là, Dieu assujettit Jabin, roi de Canaan, devant les enfants d'Israël.
24 and the hand of the sons of Israel goes, going on and becoming hard on Jabin king of Canaan, until they have cut off Jabin king of Canaan.
La main des enfants d'Israël l'emporta de plus en plus sur Jabin, roi de Canaan, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eussent détruit Jabin, roi de Canaan.
