Judges 2
1 And the Messenger of YHWH goes up from Gilgal to Bochim,
Or, l’ange du Seigneur monta de Galgala au lieu des pleurants, et dit: Je vous ai retirés de l’Égypte, je vous ai introduits dans la terre pour laquelle j’ai fait serment à vos pères, et j’ai promis que je ne rendrais jamais vaine mon alliance avec vous;
2 and says, “I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you for all time; and you make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land—you break down their altars; and you have not listened to My voice—what [is] this you have done?
À condition seulement que vous ne feriez point d’alliance avec les habitants de cette terre; mais que vous renverseriez leurs autels; et vous n’avez pas voulu entendre ma voix; pourquoi avez-vous fait cela?
3 And I have also said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been for adversaries to you, and their gods are for a snare to you.”
C’est pourquoi je n’ai pas voulu les exterminer de votre face, afin que vous les ayez pour ennemis, et que leurs dieux vous soient en ruine.
4 And it comes to pass, when the Messenger of YHWH speaks these words to all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,
Lorsque l’ange du Seigneur disait ces paroles à tous les enfants d’Israël, ceux-ci élevèrent leur voix et pleurèrent,
5 and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice to YHWH there.
Et on appela ce lieu du nom de Lieu de pleurants, ou de larmes; et ils immolèrent là des victimes au Seigneur.
6 And Joshua sends the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;
Josué renvoya donc le peuple, et les enfants d’Israël s’en allèrent, chacun en sa possession, pour l’occuper.
7 and the people serve YHWH all [the] days of Joshua, and all [the] days of [the] elderly who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of YHWH which He did to Israel.
Et ils servirent le Seigneur durant tous les jours de Josué et les anciens qui vécurent longtemps après lui, et qui avaient connu toutes les œuvres du Seigneur, qu’il avait faites en faveur d’Israël.
8 And Joshua son of Nun, servant of YHWH, dies, a son of one hundred and ten years,
Or, Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur du Seigneur, mourut âgé de cent dix ans;
9 and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gaash;
Et on l’ensevelit dans les bornes de sa possession à Thamnathsaré, sur la montagne d’Ephraïm, vers la partie septentrionale du mont Gaas.
10 and all that generation have also been gathered to their fathers, and another generation rises after them who have not known YHWH, and even the work which He has done to Israel.
Et toute cette génération fut réunie à ses pères; et d’autres hommes s’élevèrent qui ne connaissaient point le Seigneur, ni les œuvres qu’il avait faites en faveur d’Israël.
11 And the sons of Israel do evil in the eyes of YHWH, and serve the Ba‘alim,
Et les enfants d’Israël firent le mal en la présence du Seigneur, et ils servirent les Baalim.
12 and forsake YHWH, God of their fathers, who brings them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who [are] around them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke YHWH,
Et ils abandonnèrent le Seigneur Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait retirés de la terre d’Égypte, et ils servirent des dieux étrangers, et les dieux des peuples qui habitaient autour d’eux, et ils les adorèrent, et excitèrent le Seigneur à la colère,
13 indeed, they forsake YHWH, and do service to Ba‘al and to Ashtaroth.
L’abandonnant et servant Baal et Astaroth.
14 And the anger of YHWH burns against Israel, and He gives them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He sells them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, and they have not been able to stand before their enemies anymore;
Et le Seigneur irrité contre les Israélites, les livra aux mains de pillards, qui les prirent et les vendirent aux ennemis qui habitaient tout autour; ainsi ils ne purent résister à leurs adversaires;
15 in every [place] where they have gone out, the hand of YHWH has been against them for calamity, as YHWH has spoken, and as YHWH has sworn to them, and they are greatly distressed.
Mais partout où ils auraient voulu aller, la main du Seigneur était sur eux, comme il a dit et leur a juré: et ils furent violemment affligés.
16 And YHWH raises up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;
Et le Seigneur suscita des juges pour les délivrer des mains des dévastateurs; mais ils ne voulurent pas les écouter,
17 and they have also not listened to their judges, but have gone whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside [with] haste out of the way [in] which their fathers walked to obey the commands of YHWH—they have not done so.
Forniquant avec des dieux étrangers, et les adorant. Bientôt ils abandonnèrent la voie par laquelle avaient marché leurs pères; et entendant les commandements du Seigneur, ils firent tout le contraire.
18 And when YHWH raised up judges for them—then YHWH was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all [the] days of the judge; for YHWH sighs, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.
Et lorsque le Seigneur suscitait des juges, sa miséricorde fléchissait durant les jours de ces juges; il écoutait les gémissements des affligés, et il les délivrait du carnage des dévastateurs.
19 And it has come to pass, when the judge dies—they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.
Mais après que le juge était mort, ils retombaient, et faisaient des choses bien pires que n’en avaient fait leurs pères, suivant des dieux étrangers, les servant et les adorant. Ils n’abandonnèrent point leurs inventions, ni la voie très rude par laquelle ils avaient accoutumé de marcher.
20 And the anger of YHWH burns against Israel, and He says, “Because that this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not listened to My voice—
Aussi, la fureur du Seigneur fut irritée contre Israël, et il dit: Parce que cette nation a rendu vaine mon alliance, que j’avais faite avec ses pères, et qu’elle a dédaigné d’entendre ma voix,
21 I also do not continue to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua has left when he dies,
Eh bien, moi je ne détruirai point les nations que. Josué a laissées, lorsqu’il est mort,
22 in order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of YHWH, to go in it, as their fathers kept [it], or not.”
Afin que par elles j’éprouve Israël, en voyant s’ils gardent la voie du Seigneur, comme l’ont gardée leurs pères, et s’ils y marchent, ou non.
23 And YHWH leaves these nations, so as not to dispossess them quickly, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
Le Seigneur laissa donc toutes ces nations, et ne voulut point les détruire aussitôt, c’est pourquoi il ne les livra pas aux mains de Josué.
