Judges 2
1 And the Messenger of YHWH goes up from Gilgal to Bochim,
L'ange de Yahvé monta de Gilgal à Bochim. Il dit: « Je vous ai fait sortir d'Égypte et je vous ai conduits dans le pays que j'avais juré de donner à vos pères. J'ai dit: « Je ne romprai jamais mon alliance avec vous.
2 and says, “I cause you to come up out of Egypt, and bring you into the land which I have sworn to your fathers, and say, I do not break My covenant with you for all time; and you make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land—you break down their altars; and you have not listened to My voice—what [is] this you have done?
Vous ne ferez aucune alliance avec les habitants de ce pays. Vous démolirez leurs autels. Mais vous n'avez pas écouté ma voix. Pourquoi avez-vous fait cela?
3 And I have also said, I do not cast them out from your presence, and they have been for adversaries to you, and their gods are for a snare to you.”
C'est pourquoi j'ai dit: « Je ne les chasserai pas de devant toi, mais ils seront dans ton camp, et leurs dieux seront pour toi un piège. »
4 And it comes to pass, when the Messenger of YHWH speaks these words to all the sons of Israel, that the people lift up their voice and weep,
Lorsque l'ange de Yahvé eut prononcé ces paroles devant tous les enfants d'Israël, le peuple éleva la voix et pleura.
5 and they call the name of that place Bochim, and sacrifice to YHWH there.
Ils appelèrent le nom de ce lieu Bochim, et ils y sacrifièrent à l'Éternel.
6 And Joshua sends the people away, and the sons of Israel go, each to his inheritance, to possess the land;
Lorsque Josué eut renvoyé le peuple, les enfants d'Israël allèrent chacun dans son héritage pour prendre possession du pays.
7 and the people serve YHWH all [the] days of Joshua, and all [the] days of [the] elderly who prolonged days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of YHWH which He did to Israel.
Le peuple servit l'Éternel pendant toute la vie de Josué et pendant toute la vie des anciens qui survécurent à Josué et qui avaient vu toute la grande œuvre de l'Éternel en faveur d'Israël.
8 And Joshua son of Nun, servant of YHWH, dies, a son of one hundred and ten years,
Josué, fils de Nun, serviteur de l'Éternel, mourut, âgé de cent dix ans.
9 and they bury him in the border of his inheritance, in Timnath-Heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of Mount Gaash;
On l'enterra dans le territoire de son héritage, à Timnath Hérès, dans la montagne d'Ephraïm, au nord de la montagne de Gaash.
10 and all that generation have also been gathered to their fathers, and another generation rises after them who have not known YHWH, and even the work which He has done to Israel.
Après que toute cette génération eut été recueillie auprès de ses pères, il se leva après elle une autre génération qui ne connaissait pas l'Éternel ni l'œuvre qu'il avait faite pour Israël.
11 And the sons of Israel do evil in the eyes of YHWH, and serve the Ba‘alim,
Les enfants d'Israël firent ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel, et ils servirent les Baals.
12 and forsake YHWH, God of their fathers, who brings them out from the land of Egypt, and go after other gods (of the gods of the peoples who [are] around them), and bow themselves to them, and provoke YHWH,
Ils abandonnèrent Yahvé, le Dieu de leurs pères, qui les avait fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, et ils suivirent d'autres dieux, les dieux des peuples qui les entouraient, et ils se prosternèrent devant eux; et ils irritèrent Yahvé.
13 indeed, they forsake YHWH, and do service to Ba‘al and to Ashtaroth.
Ils abandonnèrent Yahvé, et servirent Baal et Ashtaroth.
14 And the anger of YHWH burns against Israel, and He gives them into the hand of spoilers, and they spoil them, and He sells them into the hand of their surrounding enemies, and they have not been able to stand before their enemies anymore;
La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les livra entre les mains de pillards qui les pillèrent. Il les vendit entre les mains de leurs ennemis tout autour, de sorte qu'ils ne purent plus tenir devant leurs ennemis.
15 in every [place] where they have gone out, the hand of YHWH has been against them for calamity, as YHWH has spoken, and as YHWH has sworn to them, and they are greatly distressed.
Partout où ils sortaient, la main de l'Éternel était contre eux pour le mal, comme l'Éternel l'avait dit et comme l'Éternel le leur avait juré; et ils étaient dans une grande détresse.
16 And YHWH raises up judges, and they save them from the hand of their spoilers;
L'Yahvé suscita des juges, qui les sauvèrent de la main de ceux qui les pillaient.
17 and they have also not listened to their judges, but have gone whoring after other gods, and bow themselves to them; they have turned aside [with] haste out of the way [in] which their fathers walked to obey the commands of YHWH—they have not done so.
Mais ils n'écoutèrent pas leurs juges, car ils se prostituèrent à d'autres dieux et se prosternèrent devant eux. Ils se sont vite détournés de la voie dans laquelle marchaient leurs pères, en obéissant aux commandements de Yahvé. Ils ne l'ont pas fait.
18 And when YHWH raised up judges for them—then YHWH was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all [the] days of the judge; for YHWH sighs, because of their groaning from the presence of their oppressors, and of those thrusting them away.
Lorsque l'Éternel leur suscitait des juges, l'Éternel était avec le juge et les sauvait de la main de leurs ennemis pendant toute la durée du mandat du juge, car l'Éternel était affligé de leurs gémissements à cause de ceux qui les opprimaient et les troublaient.
19 And it has come to pass, when the judge dies—they turn back and have done corruptly above their fathers, to go after other gods, to serve them, and to bow themselves to them; they have not fallen from their doings, and from their stiff way.
Mais quand le juge fut mort, ils revinrent en arrière et se corrompirent plus que leurs pères en suivant d'autres dieux pour les servir et se prosterner devant eux. Ils ne cessèrent pas ce qu'ils faisaient et ne renoncèrent pas à leur entêtement.
20 And the anger of YHWH burns against Israel, and He says, “Because that this nation has transgressed My covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not listened to My voice—
La colère de Yahvé s'enflamma contre Israël, et il dit: « Parce que cette nation a transgressé mon alliance que j'avais prescrite à ses pères, et qu'elle n'a pas écouté ma voix,
21 I also do not continue to dispossess any from before them of the nations which Joshua has left when he dies,
je ne chasserai plus devant elle aucune des nations que Josué a laissées en mourant,
22 in order to try Israel by them, whether they are keeping the way of YHWH, to go in it, as their fathers kept [it], or not.”
afin de mettre Israël à l'épreuve par elles, pour voir s'ils garderont ou non la voie de Yahvé pour y marcher, comme l'ont fait leurs pères. »
23 And YHWH leaves these nations, so as not to dispossess them quickly, and did not give them into the hand of Joshua.
Yahvé laissa donc ces nations, sans les chasser précipitamment. Il ne les a pas livrées entre les mains de Josué.
