Judges 14
1 And Samson goes down to Timnath, and sees a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines,
Một hôm, Sam-sôn xuống Thim-na, gặp một cô gái Phi-li-tin.
2 and comes up and declares [it] to his father and to his mother, and says, “I have seen a woman in Timnath, of the daughters of the Philistines; and now, take her for me for a wife.”
Trở về, ông thưa với cha mẹ: “Con tìm được một cô gái Phi-li-tin tại Thim-na. Xin cha mẹ đi hỏi cưới cho con.”
3 And his father says to him—also his mother, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your brothers, and among all my people, that you are going to take a woman from the uncircumcised Philistines?” And Samson says to his father, “Take her for me, for she is right in my eyes.”
Nhưng cha mẹ phản đối: “Trong họ hàng, dân tộc ta không có con gái hay sao mà con phải đi cưới con của người Phi-li-tin không chịu cắt bì?” Nhưng Sam-sôn nói với cha: “Xin cha cứ cưới cho con! Cô này vừa ý con lắm.”
4 And his father and his mother have not known that it [is] from YHWH, that He is seeking a meeting of the Philistines; and the Philistines are ruling over Israel at that time.
Cha mẹ Sam-sôn đâu ngờ rằng việc này đến từ Chúa Hằng Hữu, vì Ngài muốn tạo cơ hội cho Sam-sôn đối đầu với người Phi-li-tin vì lúc ấy Ít-ra-ên đang bị Phi-li-tin cai trị.
5 And Samson goes down—also his father and his mother, to Timnath, and they come to the vineyards of Timnath, and behold, a lion’s whelp roars at meeting him,
Sam-sôn cùng cha mẹ xuống Thim-na, bất ngờ một con sư tử tơ tấn công Sam-sôn gần một vườn nho.
6 and the Spirit of YHWH prospers over him, and he tears it as the tearing of a kid, and there is nothing in his hand, and he has not declared to his father and to his mother that which he has done.
Ngay lúc ấy, Thần của Chúa Hằng Hữu giáng trên ông mạnh mẽ phi thường. Với hai tay không, Sam-sôn xé con sư tử làm đôi như xé một con dê con vậy. Nhưng ông không cho cha mẹ hay việc ấy.
7 And he goes down and speaks to the woman, and she is right in the eyes of Samson;
Sau đó, Sam-sôn đi gặp cô gái, chuyện trò và lấy làm đắc ý.
8 and he turns back after [some] days to take her, and turns aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, a swarm of bees [are] in the body of the lion—and honey.
Ít lâu sau, Sam-sôn trở lại Thim-na để cưới cô gái, ông ghé lại xem xác con sư tử. Ông thấy một đàn ong và mật trên xác.
9 And he takes it down on to his hands, and goes on, going and eating; and he goes to his father, and to his mother, and gives to them, and they eat, and he has not declared to them that he took down the honey from the body of the lion.
Ông vốc mật vào tay, vừa đi vừa ăn. Gặp cha mẹ, ông mời họ cùng ăn. Nhưng ông không cho cha mẹ biết mật ong này lấy từ trong xác sư tử.
10 And his father goes down to the woman, and Samson makes a banquet there, for so the young men does;
Cha Sam-sôn đến nhà cô gái để lo việc cưới xin, và theo tục lệ, Sam-sôn mở tiệc tại Thim-na.
11 and it comes to pass, when they see him, that they take thirty companions, and they are with him.
Người ta giới thiệu cho ông ba mươi người để làm bạn rể.
12 And Samson says to them, “Now let me put forth a riddle to you; if you certainly declare it to me [in] the seven days of the banquet, and have found [it] out, then I have given thirty linen shirts and thirty changes of garments to you;
Sam-sôn nói với họ: “Tôi có một câu đố. Nếu các anh giải được câu đố của tôi trong vòng bảy ngày tiệc cưới, thì tôi sẽ thưởng cho ba mươi áo vải gai và ba mươi áo lễ.
13 and if you are not able to declare [it] to me, then you have given thirty linen shirts and thirty changes of garments to me.” And they say to him, “Put forth your riddle, and we hear it!”
Nhưng nếu các anh không giải nổi, thì các anh phải nạp cho tôi ba mươi áo vải gai và ba mươi áo lễ.” Họ đồng ý: “Được thôi, hãy ra câu đố đi.”
14 And he says to them: “Out of the eater came forth something to eat, And out of the strong came forth [something] sweet”; and they were not able to declare the riddle [in] three days.
Ông liền ra câu đố: “Từ vật ăn ra thức ăn; từ giống mạnh ra thức ngọt.” Trong ba ngày, họ không tìm được câu giải đáp.
15 And it comes to pass, on the seventh day, that they say to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he declare the riddle to us, lest we burn you and the house of your father with fire; have you not called for us [here] to rob us?”
Ngày thứ tư, họ nói với vợ Sam-sôn: “Nếu chị không dụ chồng tiết lộ lời giải cho chúng tôi, chị và nhà cha chị sẽ bị đốt. Có phải các người mời chúng tôi đến đây để bóc lột phải không?”
16 And Samson’s wife weeps for it and says, “You have only hated me, and have not loved me; you have put forth the riddle to the sons of my people, but have not declared it to me”; and he says to her, “Behold, I have not declared [it] to my father and to my mother—and I declare [it] to you?”
Vợ Sam-sôn khóc lóc với chồng: “Anh ghét em chứ có thương yêu gì đâu! Sao anh ra câu đố cho người đồng hương của em mà không cho em biết câu đáp?” Sam-sôn nói: “Này em, ngay cả cha mẹ anh, anh còn không cho biết, làm sao nói cho em được?”
17 And she weeps for it the seven days [in] which their banquet has been, and it comes to pass on the seventh day that he declares [it] to her, for she has distressed him; and she declares the riddle to the sons of her people.
Cô vợ cứ khóc lóc suốt mấy ngày tiệc còn lại. Chịu không nổi, Sam-sôn nói cho vợ nghe vào ngày thứ bảy. Cô đem nói lại cho mấy người kia.
18 And the men of the city say to him on the seventh day, before the sun goes in: “What [is] sweeter than honey? And what [is] stronger than a lion?” And he says to them: “Unless you had plowed with my heifer, You had not found out my riddle.”
Vậy, trước khi mặt trời lặn vào ngày thứ bảy, những người này đến với Sam-sôn đưa ra câu giải: “Có gì ngọt hơn mật? Có gì mạnh hơn sư tử?” Sam-sôn nói: “Nếu các anh không dùng bò cái tơ của tôi để cày ruộng, làm sao giải được câu đố của tôi.”
19 And the Spirit of YHWH prospers over him, and he goes down to Ashkelon, and strikes down thirty of their men, and takes their armor, and gives the changes to those declaring the riddle; and his anger burns, and he goes up to the house of his father;
Thần của Chúa Hằng Hữu giáng trên Sam-sôn. Ông xuống Ách-ca-lôn giết ba mươi người Phi-li-tin, lấy áo thưởng cho mấy người giải được câu đố. Nhưng Sam-sôn quá tức giận về những việc vừa xảy ra nên ông trở về sống với cha mẹ.
20 and Samson’s wife becomes his companion’s, who had attended to him.
Vợ của Sam-sôn bị đem gả cho một trong ba mươi người bạn rể của Sam-sôn.
