Judges 14
1 And Samson goes down to Timnath, and sees a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines,
Engang gikk Samson ned til Timnata; der så han en kvinne, en av filistrenes døtre.
2 and comes up and declares [it] to his father and to his mother, and says, “I have seen a woman in Timnath, of the daughters of the Philistines; and now, take her for me for a wife.”
Da han kom tilbake derfra, fortalte han det til sin far og mor og sa: Jeg så en kvinne i Timnata, en av filistrenes døtre; henne må I la mig få til hustru!
3 And his father says to him—also his mother, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your brothers, and among all my people, that you are going to take a woman from the uncircumcised Philistines?” And Samson says to his father, “Take her for me, for she is right in my eyes.”
Da sa hans far og mor til ham: Er det da ikke nogen kvinne blandt dine frenders døtre eller i hele mitt folk siden du vil avsted og ta en hustru blandt de uomskårne filistrer? Men Samson sa til sin far: Henne må du la mig få! Det er henne jeg synes om.
4 And his father and his mother have not known that it [is] from YHWH, that He is seeking a meeting of the Philistines; and the Philistines are ruling over Israel at that time.
Hans far og mor visste ikke at dette kom fra Herren; for han søkte en leilighet til strid med filistrene - på den tid hersket filistrene over Israel.
5 And Samson goes down—also his father and his mother, to Timnath, and they come to the vineyards of Timnath, and behold, a lion’s whelp roars at meeting him,
Så gikk Samson og hans far og mor ned til Timnata, og da de kom til vingårdene ved Timnata, da fór en ung løve brølende mot ham.
6 and the Spirit of YHWH prospers over him, and he tears it as the tearing of a kid, and there is nothing in his hand, and he has not declared to his father and to his mother that which he has done.
Da kom Herrens Ånd over ham, og han slet den i stykker som det skulde være et kje, enda kan ikke hadde noget i hånden; men han fortalte ikke sin far eller sin mor hvad han hadde gjort.
7 And he goes down and speaks to the woman, and she is right in the eyes of Samson;
Så gikk han ned og talte med kvinnen, og Samson syntes godt om henne.
8 and he turns back after [some] days to take her, and turns aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, a swarm of bees [are] in the body of the lion—and honey.
Nogen tid efter drog han ned igjen for å gifte sig med henne; så tok han av veien og vilde se efter løvens åtsel; da var der en bisverm i løvens kropp, og honning.
9 And he takes it down on to his hands, and goes on, going and eating; and he goes to his father, and to his mother, and gives to them, and they eat, and he has not declared to them that he took down the honey from the body of the lion.
Han tok honningen ut og holdt den i sine hender og åt mens han gikk, og da han kom til sin far og mor, gav han dem med sig, og de åt; men han fortalte dem ikke at det var av løvens kropp han hadde tatt honningen.
10 And his father goes down to the woman, and Samson makes a banquet there, for so the young men does;
Da nu hans far var kommet ned til kvinnen, gjorde Samson et gjestebud der; for således pleide de unge menn å gjøre.
11 and it comes to pass, when they see him, that they take thirty companions, and they are with him.
Og så snart de så ham, hentet de tretti brudesvenner; de var stadig om ham.
12 And Samson says to them, “Now let me put forth a riddle to you; if you certainly declare it to me [in] the seven days of the banquet, and have found [it] out, then I have given thirty linen shirts and thirty changes of garments to you;
En dag sa Samson til dem: La mig fremsette en gåte for eder! Dersom I i løpet av de syv gjestebudsdager kan si mig løsningen på den, og I gjetter riktig, så vil jeg gi eder tretti fine skjorter og tretti festklædninger;
13 and if you are not able to declare [it] to me, then you have given thirty linen shirts and thirty changes of garments to me.” And they say to him, “Put forth your riddle, and we hear it!”
men kan I ikke si mig løsningen, så skal I gi mig tretti fine skjorter og tretti festklædninger. Og de sa til ham: Fremsett din gåte, så vi får høre den!
14 And he says to them: “Out of the eater came forth something to eat, And out of the strong came forth [something] sweet”; and they were not able to declare the riddle [in] three days.
Da sa han til dem: Av eteren kom det mat og av den sterke kom det sødme. Men det gikk tre dager uten at de kunde løse gåten.
15 And it comes to pass, on the seventh day, that they say to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he declare the riddle to us, lest we burn you and the house of your father with fire; have you not called for us [here] to rob us?”
På den syende dag sa de til Samsons hustru: Lokk din mann til å si oss løsningen på gåten! Ellers brenner vi op både dig og din fars hus. Er det da for å plyndre oss I har innbudt oss?
16 And Samson’s wife weeps for it and says, “You have only hated me, and have not loved me; you have put forth the riddle to the sons of my people, but have not declared it to me”; and he says to her, “Behold, I have not declared [it] to my father and to my mother—and I declare [it] to you?”
Da hang Samsons hustru over ham med gråt og sa: Du hater mig bare og elsker mig ikke; du har fremsatt en gåte for mine landsmenn, men mig har du ikke sagt løsningen på den. Han svarte: Jeg har ikke sagt det til min far eller mor; skulde jeg da si det til dig?
17 And she weeps for it the seven days [in] which their banquet has been, and it comes to pass on the seventh day that he declares [it] to her, for she has distressed him; and she declares the riddle to the sons of her people.
Men hun hang over ham med gråt i de syv dager gjestebudet varte, og den syvende dag sa han henne løsningen, fordi hun plaget ham så; og hun sa det til sine landsmenn.
18 And the men of the city say to him on the seventh day, before the sun goes in: “What [is] sweeter than honey? And what [is] stronger than a lion?” And he says to them: “Unless you had plowed with my heifer, You had not found out my riddle.”
Og på den syvende dag, før solen gikk ned, sa mennene i byen til ham: Hvad er søtere enn honning, og hvad er sterkere enn en løve? Men han svarte dem: Hadde I ikke pløid med min kalv, så hadde I ikke gjettet min gåte.
19 And the Spirit of YHWH prospers over him, and he goes down to Ashkelon, and strikes down thirty of their men, and takes their armor, and gives the changes to those declaring the riddle; and his anger burns, and he goes up to the house of his father;
Og Herrens Ånd kom over ham; han gikk ned til Askalon og slo ihjel tretti mann der, tok deres klær og lot dem som hadde løst gåten, få dem til festklædninger; og hans vrede optendtes, og han drog hjem til sin fars hus.
20 and Samson’s wife becomes his companion’s, who had attended to him.
Men Samsons hustru blev gitt til den av hans brudesvenner som han hadde valgt sig til følgesvenn.
