Judges 14
1 And Samson goes down to Timnath, and sees a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines,
Samson descendit à Thimna, et il vit à Thimna une femme d'entre les filles des Philistins.
2 and comes up and declares [it] to his father and to his mother, and says, “I have seen a woman in Timnath, of the daughters of the Philistines; and now, take her for me for a wife.”
Il remonta, et le rapporta à son père et à sa mère, en disant: « J'ai vu à Thimna une femme d'entre les filles des Philistins. Maintenant, prends-la pour moi comme femme. »
3 And his father says to him—also his mother, “Is there no woman among the daughters of your brothers, and among all my people, that you are going to take a woman from the uncircumcised Philistines?” And Samson says to his father, “Take her for me, for she is right in my eyes.”
Et son père et sa mère lui dirent: « N'y a-t-il pas une femme parmi les filles de tes frères, ou parmi tout mon peuple, que tu ailles prendre une femme chez les Philistins incirconcis? » Samson dit à son père: « Prends-la pour moi, car elle me plaît bien. »
4 And his father and his mother have not known that it [is] from YHWH, that He is seeking a meeting of the Philistines; and the Philistines are ruling over Israel at that time.
Mais son père et sa mère ne savaient pas que c'était de la part de l'Éternel, car il cherchait une occasion de se battre contre les Philistins. Or, en ce temps-là, les Philistins dominaient sur Israël.
5 And Samson goes down—also his father and his mother, to Timnath, and they come to the vineyards of Timnath, and behold, a lion’s whelp roars at meeting him,
Alors Samson descendit à Thimna avec son père et sa mère, et il arriva dans les vignes de Thimna; et voici qu'un jeune lion rugit contre lui.
6 and the Spirit of YHWH prospers over him, and he tears it as the tearing of a kid, and there is nothing in his hand, and he has not declared to his father and to his mother that which he has done.
L'Esprit de Yahvé vint puissamment sur lui, et il le déchira comme il aurait déchiré un chevreau à mains nues, mais il ne dit pas à son père ni à sa mère ce qu'il avait fait.
7 And he goes down and speaks to the woman, and she is right in the eyes of Samson;
Il descendit et parla avec la femme, et elle plut à Samson.
8 and he turns back after [some] days to take her, and turns aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, a swarm of bees [are] in the body of the lion—and honey.
Au bout d'un moment, il revint la chercher, et il alla voir le cadavre du lion; et voici, il y avait un essaim d'abeilles dans le cadavre du lion, et du miel.
9 And he takes it down on to his hands, and goes on, going and eating; and he goes to his father, and to his mother, and gives to them, and they eat, and he has not declared to them that he took down the honey from the body of the lion.
Il le prit dans ses mains, et s'en alla, mangeant en chemin. Il vint vers son père et sa mère et leur donna, et ils mangèrent, mais il ne leur dit pas qu'il avait pris le miel dans le corps du lion.
10 And his father goes down to the woman, and Samson makes a banquet there, for so the young men does;
Son père descendit chez la femme, et Samson y fit un festin, car les jeunes gens ont l'habitude de le faire.
11 and it comes to pass, when they see him, that they take thirty companions, and they are with him.
Quand ils le virent, ils amenèrent trente compagnons pour être avec lui.
12 And Samson says to them, “Now let me put forth a riddle to you; if you certainly declare it to me [in] the seven days of the banquet, and have found [it] out, then I have given thirty linen shirts and thirty changes of garments to you;
Samson leur dit: « Je vais vous poser une énigme. Si vous pouvez me donner la réponse dans les sept jours de la fête et la découvrir, alors je vous donnerai trente vêtements de lin et trente vêtements de rechange;
13 and if you are not able to declare [it] to me, then you have given thirty linen shirts and thirty changes of garments to me.” And they say to him, “Put forth your riddle, and we hear it!”
mais si vous ne pouvez pas me donner la réponse, alors vous me donnerez trente vêtements de lin et trente vêtements de rechange. » Ils lui dirent: « Dis-nous ton énigme, afin que nous l'entendions. »
14 And he says to them: “Out of the eater came forth something to eat, And out of the strong came forth [something] sweet”; and they were not able to declare the riddle [in] three days.
Il leur dit, « Du mangeur est sortie la nourriture. De la force est sortie la douceur. » En trois jours, ils n'ont pas pu résoudre l'énigme.
15 And it comes to pass, on the seventh day, that they say to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he declare the riddle to us, lest we burn you and the house of your father with fire; have you not called for us [here] to rob us?”
Le septième jour, ils dirent à la femme de Samson: « Attire ton mari pour qu'il nous révèle l'énigme, de peur que nous ne te brûlions, toi et la maison de ton père. Nous avez-vous appelés pour nous appauvrir? N'est-ce pas? »
16 And Samson’s wife weeps for it and says, “You have only hated me, and have not loved me; you have put forth the riddle to the sons of my people, but have not declared it to me”; and he says to her, “Behold, I have not declared [it] to my father and to my mother—and I declare [it] to you?”
La femme de Samson pleura devant lui et dit: « Tu me hais et tu ne m'aimes pas. Tu as raconté une énigme aux enfants de mon peuple, et tu ne l'as pas racontée à moi. » Il lui dit: « Voici, je ne l'ai dit ni à mon père ni à ma mère, alors pourquoi devrais-je te le dire? ».
17 And she weeps for it the seven days [in] which their banquet has been, and it comes to pass on the seventh day that he declares [it] to her, for she has distressed him; and she declares the riddle to the sons of her people.
Elle pleura devant lui les sept jours que dura leur fête; et le septième jour, il le lui dit, car elle le pressait durement; et elle raconta l'énigme aux enfants de son peuple.
18 And the men of the city say to him on the seventh day, before the sun goes in: “What [is] sweeter than honey? And what [is] stronger than a lion?” And he says to them: “Unless you had plowed with my heifer, You had not found out my riddle.”
Le septième jour, avant le coucher du soleil, les hommes de la ville lui dirent: « Qu'est-ce qui est plus doux que le miel? Qu'est-ce qui est plus fort qu'un lion? » Il leur a dit, « Si tu n'avais pas labouré avec ma génisse, vous n'auriez pas découvert mon énigme. »
19 And the Spirit of YHWH prospers over him, and he goes down to Ashkelon, and strikes down thirty of their men, and takes their armor, and gives the changes to those declaring the riddle; and his anger burns, and he goes up to the house of his father;
L'Esprit de Yahvé se manifesta puissamment sur lui, il descendit à Ashkelon et en frappa trente hommes. Il prit leur butin, puis donna les vêtements de rechange à ceux qui avaient déclaré l'énigme. Sa colère s'enflamma, et il monta à la maison de son père.
20 and Samson’s wife becomes his companion’s, who had attended to him.
Mais la femme de Samson fut donnée à son compagnon, qui avait été son ami.
