Judges 12

1 And the men of Ephraim are called together, and pass over northward, and say to Jephthah, “Why have you passed over to fight against the sons of Ammon, and have not called on us to go with you? We burn your house with fire over you.”

Los hombres de Efraín se reunieron y pasaron hacia el norte, y dijeron a Jefté: “¿Por qué pasaste a luchar contra los hijos de Amón y no nos llamaste para que fuéramos contigo? Quemaremos con fuego tu casa a tu alrededor”.

2 And Jephthah says to them, “I have been a man of great strife (I and my people) with the sons of Ammon, and I call you, and you have not saved me out of their hand,

Jefté les dijo: “Yo y mi pueblo tuvimos una gran disputa con los hijos de Amón, y cuando os llamé, no me salvasteis de su mano.

3 and I see that you are not a savior, and I put my life in my hand, and pass over to the sons of Ammon, and YHWH gives them into my hand—and why have you come up to me this day to fight against me?”

Cuando vi que ustedes no me salvaban, puse mi vida en mi mano y pasé contra los hijos de Amón, y el Señor los entregó en mi mano. ¿Por qué, pues, has subido hoy a pelear contra mí?”

4 And Jephthah gathered all the men of Gilead, and fights with Ephraim, and the men of Gilead strike Ephraim, because they said, “You Gileadites [are] fugitives of Ephraim, in the midst of Ephraim—in the midst of Manasseh.”

Entonces Jefté reunió a todos los hombres de Galaad y luchó contra Efraín. Los hombres de Galaad golpearon a Efraín, porque dijeron: “Ustedes son fugitivos de Efraín, los galaaditas, en medio de Efraín y en medio de Manasés.”

5 And Gilead captures the passages of the Jordan to Ephraim, and it has been, when [any of] the fugitives of Ephraim say, “Let me pass over,” and the men of Gilead say to him, “[Are] you an Ephraimite?” And he says, “No”;

Los galaaditas tomaron los vados del Jordán contra los efraimitas. Cuando un fugitivo de Efraín decía: “Déjame pasar”, los hombres de Galaad le decían: “¿Eres efraimita?”. Si respondía: “No”;

6 that they say to him, “Now say, Shibboleth”; and he says, “Sibboleth,” and is not prepared to speak right—and they seize him, and slaughter him at the passages of the Jordan, and there fall at that time, of Ephraim, forty-two chiefs.

entonces le decían: “Ahora di ‘Shibboleth’;” y él decía “Sibboleth”; pues no lograba pronunciarlo correctamente, entonces lo agarraban y lo mataban en los vados del Jordán. En ese momento cayeron cuarenta y dos mil de Efraín.

7 And Jephthah judged Israel [for] six years, and Jephthah the Gileadite dies, and is buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.

Jefté juzgó a Israel durante seis años. Luego murió Jefté el Galaadita, y fue enterrado en las ciudades de Galaad.

8 And after him Ibzan of Beth-Lehem judges Israel,

Después de él, Ibzán de Belén juzgó a Israel.

9 and he has thirty sons, and thirty daughters he gave away [in marriage], and thirty daughters he brought in from outside for his sons; and he judges Israel [for] seven years.

Tenía treinta hijos. Envió a sus treinta hijas fuera de su clan, y trajo treinta hijas de fuera de su clan para sus hijos. Juzgó a Israel durante siete años.

10 And Ibzan dies, and is buried in Beth-Lehem.

Ibzán murió y fue enterrado en Belén.

11 And after him Elon the Zebulunite judges Israel, and he judges Israel [for] ten years,

Después de él, Elón Zabulonita juzgó a Israel; y juzgó a Israel durante diez años.

12 and Elon the Zebulunite dies, and is buried in Aijalon, in the land of Zebulun.

Elón de Zabulón murió y fue enterrado en Ajalón, en la tierra de Zabulón.

13 And after him, Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, judges Israel,

Después de él, Abdón, hijo de Hilel el piratonita, juzgó a Israel.

14 and he has forty sons, and thirty grandsons, riding on seventy donkey-colts, and he judges Israel [for] eight years.

Tenía cuarenta hijos y treinta hijos de hijos que montaban en setenta asnos. Juzgó a Israel durante ocho años.

15 And Abdon son of Hillel, the Pirathonite, dies, and is buried in Pirathon, in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekite.

Abdón hijo de Hilel, el piratonita, murió y fue enterrado en Piratón, en la tierra de Efraín, en la región montañosa de los amalecitas.
