Joshua 9
1 And it comes to pass, when all the kings who [are] beyond the Jordan, in the hill-country, and in the low-country, and in every haven of the Great Sea, toward Lebanon, the Hittite, and the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite, hear—
Da alle Kongerne paa den anden Side af Jordan, i Bjergene og i Lavlandet og langs hele det store Havs Kyst hen imod Libanon, Hetiterne, Amoriterne, Kana'anæerne, Perizziterne, Hivviterne og Jebusiterne, hørte, hvad der var sket,
2 that they gather themselves together to fight with Joshua, and with Israel—[with] one mouth.
samlede de sig for i Fællesskab at kæmpe mod Josua og Israel.
3 And the inhabitants of Gibeon have heard that which Joshua has done to Jericho and to Ai,
Men da Indbyggerne i Gibeon hørte, hvad Josua havde gjort ved Jeriko og Aj,
4 and they work, even they, with subtlety, and go, and feign to be ambassadors, and take old sacks for their donkeys, and wine-bottles, old, and split, and bound up,
greb ogsaa de til en List; de gik hen og forsynede sig med Rejsetæring, læssede nogle slidte Sække og nogle slidte, sprukne, stoppede Vinsække paa deres Æsler
5 and sandals, old and patched, on their feet, and old garments on them, and all the bread of their provision is dry—it was crumbs.
og tog slidte, lappede Sko paa Fødderne og slidte Klæder paa Kroppen, og alt deres Rejsebrød var tørt og mullent.
6 And they go to Joshua, to the camp at Gilgal, and say to him, and to the men of Israel, “We have come from a far-off land, and now, make a covenant with us”;
Saa gik de til Josua i Lejren ved Gilgal og sagde til ham og Israels Mænd: »Vi kommer fra et fjernt Land; slut derfor Pagt med os!«
7 and the men of Israel say to the Hivite, “It may be [that] you are dwelling in our midst, so how do we make a covenant with you?”
Israels Mænd svarede Hivviterne: »Det kunde være, at I bor her midt iblandt os, hvorledes kan vi da slutte Pagt med eder?«
8 And they say to Joshua, “We [are] your servants.” And Joshua says to them, “Who [are] you? And where do you come from?”
De sagde til Josua: »Vi er dine Trælle!« Josua spurgte dem saa: »Hvem er I, og hvorfra kommer I?«
9 And they say to him, “Your servants have come from a very far-off land, for the Name of your God YHWH, for we have heard His fame, and all that He has done in Egypt,
Og de svarede ham: »Fra et saare fjernt Land er dine Trælle kommet for HERREN din Guds Navns Skyld; thi vi har hørt hans Ry og alt, hvad han gjorde i Ægypten,
10 and all that He has done to the two kings of the Amorite who [are] beyond the Jordan, to Sihon king of Heshbon, and to Og king of Bashan, who [is] in Ashtaroth.
og alt, hvad han gjorde mod de to Amoriterkonger hinsides Jordan, Kong Sihon af Hesjbon og Kong Og af Basan, som boede i Asjtarot,
11 And our elderly, and all the inhabitants of our land speak to us, saying, Take provision in your hand for the way, and go to meet them, and you have said to them: We [are] your servants, and now, make a covenant with us;
og vore Ældste og alle Indbyggerne i vort Land sagde til os: Tag Rejsetæring med eder, drag dem i Møde og sig til dem: Vi er eders Trælle; slut derfor nu Pagt med os!
12 this bread of ours—we provided ourselves with it hot out of our houses, on the day of our coming out to go to you, and now, behold, it is dry, and has been crumbs;
Vort Brød her var endnu varmt, da vi tog det med hjemmefra, dengang vi begav os af Sted for at drage til eder; men se, nu er det tørt og mullent;
13 and these [are] the wine-bottles which we filled, new, and behold, they have split; and these, our garments and our sandals, have become old, from the exceeding greatness of the way.”
og vore Vinsække her var nye, da vi fyldte dem; se, nu er de sprukne; og vore Klæder og Sko her er slidte, fordi Vejen var saa lang!«
14 And the men take of their provision, and have not asked the mouth of YHWH;
Saa tog Mændene af deres Rejsetæring; men HERREN raadspurgte de ikke.
15 and Joshua makes peace with them, and makes a covenant with them, to keep them alive; and the princes of the congregation swear to them.
Og Josua tilsagde dem Fred og sluttede Overenskomst med dem og lovede at lade dem leve, og Menighedens Øverster tilsvor dem det.
16 And it comes to pass, that at the end of three days after they have made a covenant with them, that they hear that they [are] their neighbors—that they are dwelling in their midst.
Men tre Dage efter at de havde sluttet Pagt med dem, hørte de, at de var fra den nærmeste Omegn og boede midt iblandt dem.
17 And the sons of Israel journey and come to their cities on the third day—and their cities [are] Gibeon, and Chephirah, and Beeroth, and Kirjath-Jearim—
Og Israeliterne brød op og kom den tredje Dag til deres Byer, det var Gibeon, Kefira, Be'erot og Kirjat-Jearim.
18 and the sons of Israel have not struck them, for the princes of the congregation have sworn to them by YHWH, God of Israel, and all the congregation murmur against the princes.
Men Israeliterne dræbte dem ikke, fordi Menighedens Øverster havde, tilsvoret dem Fred ved HERREN, Israels Gud. Da knurrede hele Menigheden mod Øversterne;
19 And all the princes say to all the congregation, “We have sworn to them by YHWH, God of Israel; and now, we are not able to come against them;
men alle Øversterne sagde til hele Menigheden: »Vi har tilsvoret dem Fred ved HERREN, Israels Gud, derfor kan vi ikke gøre dem noget ondt.
20 we do this to them, and have kept them alive, and wrath is not on us, because of the oath which we have sworn to them.”
Men dette vil vi gøre med dem, naar vi skaaner deres Liv, at der ikke skal komme Vrede over os for den Ed, vi svor dem:
21 And the princes say to them, “They live, and are hewers of wood and drawers of water for all the congregation, as the princes spoke to them.”
De skal blive i Live, men være Brændehuggere og Vandbærere for hele Menigheden.« Og hele Menigheden gjorde, som Øversterne havde sagt.
22 And Joshua calls for them, and speaks to them, saying, “Why have you deceived us, saying, We are very far from you, yet you [are] dwelling in our midst?
Og Josua lod dem kalde og talte saaledes til dem: »Hvorfor førte I os bag Lyset og sagde, at I havde hjemme langt borte fra os, skønt I bor her midt iblandt os?
23 And now you are cursed, and none of you is cut off [from being] a servant, even hewers of wood and drawers of water, for the house of my God.”
Derfor skal I nu være forbandede, og ingen af eder skal nogen Sinde ophøre at være Træl; Brændehuggere og Vandbærere skal I være ved min Gus Hus!«
24 And they answer Joshua and say, “Because it was certainly declared to your servants that your God YHWH commanded His servant Moses to give all the land to you, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; and we fear greatly for ourselves because of you, and we do this thing;
De svarede Josua og sagde: »Det var blevet dine Trælle sagt, at HERREN din Gud paalagde sin Tjener Moses, at naar han gav eder hele Landet, skulde I udrydde alle Landets Indbyggere foran eder. Da paakom der os stor Frygt for, at I skulde tage vort Liv; derfor handlede vi saaledes.
25 and now, behold, we [are] in your hand, as [it is] good, and as [it is] right in your eyes to do to us—do.”
Men se, nu er vi i din Haand; gør med os, som det tykkes dig godt og ret!«
26 And he does to them so, and delivers them from the hand of the sons of Israel, and they have not slain them;
Da handlede han saaledes med dem; han friede dem fra Israeliternes Haand, saa de ikke dræbte dem;
27 and on that day Joshua makes them hewers of wood and drawers of water for the congregation, and for the altar of YHWH, to this day, at the place which He chooses.
men Josua gjorde dem den Dag til Brændehuggere og Vandbærere for Menigheden og for HERRENS Alter paa det Sted, han vilde udvælge. Og det er de den Dag i Dag.
