Joshua 20

1 And YHWH speaks to Joshua, saying,

۱ و خداوند یوشع را خطاب کرده، گفت:

2 “Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, Give cities of refuge for yourselves, as I have spoken to you by the hand of Moses,

۲ «بنی‌اسرائیل را خطاب کرده، بگو: شهرهای ملجایی را که درباره آنها به واسطه موسی به شما سخن گفتم، برای خود معین سازید

3 for the fleeing there of a manslayer striking life through ignorance, without knowledge; and they have been for a refuge to you from the redeemer of blood.

۳ تا قاتلی که کسی را سهو و ندانسته کشته باشدبه آنها فرار کند، و آنها برای شما از ولی مقتول ملجا باشد.

4 When [one] has fled to one of these cities, and has stood [at] the opening of the gate of the city, and has spoken his matter in the ears of [the] elderly of that city, then they have gathered him into the city to them, and have given a place to him, and he has dwelt with them.

۴ و او به یکی از این شهرها فرار کرده، و به مدخل دروازه شهر ایستاده، به گوش مشایخ شهر ماجرای خود را بیان کند، و ایشان او را نزدخود به شهر درآورده، مکانی به او بدهند تا باایشان ساکن شود.

5 And when the redeemer of blood pursues after him, then they do not shut up the manslayer into his hand, for he has struck his neighbor without knowledge, and is not hating him until now;

۵ و اگر ولی مقتول او را تعاقب کند، قاتل را به‌دست او نسپارند، زیرا که همسایه خود را از نادانستگی کشته، و او را پیش از آن دشمن نداشته بود.

6 and he has dwelt in that city until his standing before the congregation for judgment, until the death of the chief priest who is in those days—then the manslayer turns back and has come to his city, and to his house, to the city from where he fled.”

۶ و در آن شهر تا وقتی که به جهت محاکمه به حضور جماعت حاضر شود تاوفات رئیس کهنه که در آن ایام می‌باشد توقف نماید، و بعد از آن قاتل برگشته، به شهر و به خانه خود یعنی به شهری که از آن فرار کرده بود، داخل شود.

7 And they sanctify Kedesh in Galilee, in the hill-country of Naphtali, and Shechem in the hill-country of Ephraim, and Kirjath-Arba (it [is] Hebron), in the hill-country of Judah;

۷ پس قادش را در جلیل در کوهستان نفتالی وشکیم را در کوهستان افرایم و قریه اربع را که درحبرون باشد در کوهستان یهودا، تقدیس نمودند.

8 and beyond the Jordan, [at] Jericho eastward, they have given Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

۸ و از آن طرف اردن به سمت مشرق اریحا باصررا در صحرا در بیابان از سبط روبین و راموت را درجلعاد از سبط جاد و جولان را در باشان از سبطمنسی تعیین نمودند.

9 These have been cities of meeting for all the sons of Israel, and for a sojourner who is sojourning in their midst, for the fleeing there of anyone striking life through ignorance, and he does not die by the hand of the redeemer of blood until his standing before the congregation.

۹ اینهاست شهرهایی که برای تمامی بنی‌اسرائیل و برای غریبی که در میان ایشان ماوا گزیند معین شده بود، تا هر‌که کسی راسهو کشته باشد به آنجا فرار کند، و به‌دست ولی مقتول کشته نشود تا وقتی که به حضور جماعت حاضر شود.
