Joshua 14
1 And these [are] they of the sons of Israel who inherited in the land of Canaan, whom Eleazar the priest, and Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel, caused to inherit;
Maeneo haya ya nchi ambayo watu wa Israeli waliyapokea kama urithi wao katika nchi ya Kanaani. Urith huu uligawanywa kwao na Eliazeri kuhani, na Yoshua mwana wa Nuni, na viongozi wa makabila ya mababu wa familia zao kati ya watu wa Israeli.
2 their inheritance [is] by lot, as YHWH commanded by the hand of Moses, for the nine tribes and the half-tribe;
Urithi wao ulichaguliwa kwa kupiga kura kwa makabila tisa na nusu, kama vile Yahweh alivyoagiza kwa mkono wa Musa.
3 for Moses has given the inheritance of two of the tribes, and of half of the tribe, beyond the Jordan, and he has not given an inheritance to the Levites in their midst;
Kwa kuwa Musa alikuwa amewapa urithi makabila mawili na nusu ng'ambo ya Yordani, lakini Walawi hawakupewa urithi wowote.
4 for the sons of Joseph have been two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim, and they have not given a portion to the Levites in the land, except cities to dwell in, and their outskirts for their livestock, and for their possessions;
Kabila la Yusufu kwa uhalisia yalikuwa makabila mawili, Manase na Efraimu. Na hakuna sehemu yoyote ya urithi waliyopewa Walawi katika nchi, lakini walipewa miji ya kuishi ndani yake pamoja na sehemu ya malisho ya mifugo yao na kwa ajili ya riziki zao.
5 as YHWH commanded Moses, so the sons of Israel have done, and they apportion the land.
Watu wa Israeli walifanya hivyo kama vile Yahweh alivyomwagiza Musa, basi waliiganywa nchi.
6 And the sons of Judah come near to Joshua in Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite says to him, “You have known the word that YHWH has spoken to Moses, the man of God, concerning me and concerning you in Kadesh-Barnea:
Kisha kabila la Yuda lilikuja kwa Yoshua huko Giligali. Kalebu mwana wa Yefune Mkenizi, akamwambia,”Unajua kile Yahweh alichomwambia Musa mtu wa Mungu juu yako na mimi huko Barnea.
7 I [was] a son of forty years in Moses, servant of YHWH, sending me from Kadesh-Barnea, to spy out the land, and I bring him back word as with my heart;
Nilikuwa na umri wa miaka arobani wakati Musa mtumishi wa Yahweh aliponituma kutoka Kadeshi Barnea kuipeleleza nchi. Nilimletea taarifa tena kama nilivyotakiwa kufanya katika moyo wangu.
8 and my brothers who have gone up with me have caused the heart of the people to melt, and I have been fully after my God YHWH;
Lakini ndugu zangu walioenda pamoja nami waliifanya mioyo ya watu iyeyuke kwa woga. Lakini mimi nilimfuata Yahweh kabisa.
9 and Moses swears in that day, saying, Nevertheless—the land on which your foot has trodden, it is to you for an inheritance, and to your sons—for all time, for you have been fully after my God YHWH.
Musa aliapa katika siku hiyo akisema, “Hakika nchi ambayo miguu yako imetembea juu yake itakuwa urithi wako na kwa watoto wako milele, kwasababu umemfuata kabisa Yahweh Mungu wangu.
10 And now, behold, YHWH has kept me alive, as He has spoken, these forty-five years, since YHWH spoke this word to Moses when Israel went in the wilderness; and now, behold, I [am] a son of eighty-five years today;
Tazama! sasa, Yahweh amenihifadhi hai kwa miaka hii arobaini na tano, kama alivyosema - tangu kipindi kile Yahweh alivyomwambia Musa neno hili, wakati huo Waisraeli walikuwa wakitembea jangwani. Tazama! sasa katika siku hii ya leo nina miaka themanini na mitano.
11 yet today I [am] strong as in the day of Moses’ sending me; as my power [was] then, so [is] my power now, for battle, and to go out, and to come in.
Bado hata siku hii ya leo nina nguvu kama nilivyokuwa katika siku ile ambayo Musa alinituma. Nguvu zangu za sasa ni sawa na nguvu zangu za kipindi kile, kwa ajili ya vita na kwa kwenda na kwa kuja.
12 And now, give this hill-country to me, of which YHWH spoke in that day, for you heard in that day, for Anakim [are] there, and great, fortified cities; if [it] so be [that] YHWH [is] with me, then I have dispossessed them, as YHWH has spoken.”
Sasa basi, nipe nchi hii ya milima, ambayo Yahweh aliniahidi katika siku hiyo. Kwa kuwa ulisikia katika siku hiyo kuwa Wanakimu walikuwa huko katika miji yenye ngome. Itakuwa kwamba Yahweh atakuwa pamoja nami na ya kwamba nitawafukuzia mbali, kama vile Yahweh alivyosema.”
13 And Joshua blesses him, and gives Hebron to Caleb son of Jephunneh for an inheritance,
Kisha Yoshua alimbariki Kalebu mwana wa Yefune na alimpa Hebroni kama urithi wake.
14 therefore Hebron has been to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenezzite for an inheritance to this day, because that he was fully after YHWH, God of Israel;
Hivyo Hebroni ikawa urithi wa Kalebu mwana wa Yefune Mkenizi hata leo, kwasababu alimfuata kabisa Yahweh, Mungu wa Israeli.
15 and the name of Hebron [was] formerly Kirjath-Arba (the man [was] the greatest among the Anakim); and the land has rest from war.
Basi, jina la Hebroni hapo mwanzo lilikuwa ni Kiriathi Arba ( Arba ambaye alikuwa ni mtu mkuu miongoni mwa Wanakim). Kisha nchi ikawa na raha bila vita.
