< Jonah 2 >
1 And Jonah prays to his God YHWH from the bowels of the fish.
And Jonas preiede to the Lord his God fro the fischis wombe,
2 And he says: “I called, because of my distress, to YHWH, And He answers me, From the belly of Sheol I have cried, You have heard my voice. (Sheol )
and seide, Y criede to God of my tribulacioun, and he herde me; fro the wombe of helle Y criede, and thou herdist my vois. (Sheol )
3 When You cast me [into] the deep, Into the heart of the seas, Then the flood surrounds me, All Your breakers and Your billows have passed over me.
Thou castidist me doun in to depnesse, in the herte of the see, and the flood cumpasside me; alle thi swolowis and thi wawis passiden on me.
4 And I said: I have been cast out from before Your eyes (Yet I add to look to Your holy temple!)
And Y seide, Y am cast awei fro siyt of thin iyen; netheles eftsoone Y schal see thin hooli temple.
5 Waters have surrounded me to the soul, The deep surrounds me, The weed is bound to my head.
Watris cumpassiden me `til to my soule, depnesse enuyrownede me, the see hilide myn heed.
6 To the cuttings of mountains I have come down, The earth, her bars [are] behind me for all time. And You bring my life up from the pit, O YHWH my God.
Y wente doun to the vtmeste places of hillis, the barris of erthe closiden me togidere, in to withouten ende; and thou, my Lord God, schalt reise vp my lijf fro corrupcioun.
7 In the feebleness of my soul within me, I have remembered YHWH, And my prayer comes to You, Into Your holy temple.
Whanne my soule was angwisched in me, Y bithouyte on the Lord, that my preier come to thee, to thin hooli temple.
8 Those observing lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
Thei that kepen vanytees, forsaken his merci idili.
9 And I—with a voice of thanksgiving—I sacrifice to You, That which I have vowed I complete, Salvation [is] of YHWH.”
But Y in vois of heriyng schal offre to thee; what euer thingis Y vowide, Y schal yelde to the Lord, for myn helthe.
10 And YHWH speaks to the fish, and it vomits Jonah out on the dry land.
And the Lord seide to the fisch, and it castide out Jonas `in to the drie lond.
