John 9
1 And passing by, He saw a man blind from birth,
Il vit, en passant, un aveugle de naissance.
2 and His disciples asked Him, saying, “Rabbi, who sinned, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?”
Ses disciples l'interrogèrent: «Rabbi, lui dirent-ils, est-ce le péché de cet homme, ou celui de ses parents, qui l'a fait naître aveugle?»
3 Jesus answered, “Neither this one sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God may be revealed in him;
Jésus répondit: «Ni lui, ni ses parents n'ont péché, mais il est aveugle pour que les oeuvres de Dieu soient manifestées en lui.
4 it is necessary for Me to be working the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; night comes when no one is able to work:
Il faut, pendant qu'il est jour, que j'accomplisse les oeuvres de Celui qui m'a envoyé. La nuit arrive, où personne ne peut travailler.
5 when I am in the world, I AM [the] light of the world.”
Pendant que je suis dans le monde, je suis la lumière du monde.»
6 Saying these things, He spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind man, and said to him,
Ayant ainsi parlé, il cracha à terre; et, formant de la boue avec sa salive, il étendit cette boue sur les yeux de l'aveugle;
7 “Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,” which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and washed, and came seeing;
puis il lui dit: «Va te laver à la piscine de Siloam (mot qui signifie: Envoyé).» L'aveugle alla se laver et revint voyant clair.
8 the neighbors, therefore, and those seeing him before, that he was blind, said, “Is this not he who is sitting and begging?”
Les voisins et les gens qui auparavant l'avaient remarqué, quand il demandait l'aumône, disaient: «N'est-ce pas là l'homme qui était assis et mendiait?» —
9 Others said, “This is he”; and others, “He is like to him”; he himself said, “I am [he].”
«C'est bien lui», répondaient les uns. — «Nullement! affirmaient les autres, c'est quelqu'un qui lui ressemble.» Lui, il disait: «C'est bien moi.»
10 They said, therefore, to him, “How were your eyes opened?”
On lui demanda il alors: «Comment tes yeux se sont-ils donc ouverts?»
11 He answered and said, “A man called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, Go away to the pool of Siloam, and wash; and having gone away and having washed, I received sight”;
Il répondit: «Celui que l'on nomme Jésus a fait de la boue; il l'a étendue sur mes yeux; puis il m'a dit: «Va te laver à Siloam.» J'y suis allé; je me suis lavé et j'y vois.»
12 they said, therefore, to him, “Where is that One?” He says, “I have not known.”
Ils lui demandèrent: «Et lui, où est-il?» — «Je n'en sais rien», répondit-il.
13 They bring him who once [was] blind to the Pharisees,
On conduisit aux Pharisiens cet aveugle guéri.
14 and it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.
Or c'était un jour de sabbat que Jésus avait fait de la boue et lui avait ouvert les yeux.
15 Again, therefore, the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight, and he said to them, “He put clay on my eyes, and I washed—and I see.”
Les Pharisiens lui demandèrent à leur tour comment il avait recouvré la vue. «Il m'a mis de la boue sur les yeux, leur répondit-il; je me suis lavé et j'y vois.»
16 Certain of the Pharisees therefore said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath”; others said, “How is a man—a sinful one—able to do such signs?” And there was a division among them.
Là-dessus quelques-uns de ces Pharisiens dirent: «Cet homme, n'est pas de Dieu, puisqu'il n'observe pas le sabbat.» Mais d'autres: «Comment un pécheur peut-il faire de tels miracles?» Ils étaient en désaccord.
17 They said to the blind man again, “You—what do you say of Him—that He opened your eyes?”
Alors ils s'adressèrent de nouveau à l'aveugle: «Et toi, que dis-tu de lui, puisqu'il t'a ouvert les yeux?» — «C'est un prophète», répondit-il.
18 And he said, “He is a prophet.” The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him that he was blind and received sight, until they called the parents of him who received sight,
Ne croyant pas que cet homme avait été aveugle et qu'il avait recouvré la vue, les Juifs mandèrent son père et sa mère,
19 and they asked them, saying, “Is [this] your son, of whom you say that he was born blind? How then does he now see?”
et ils leur posèrent ces questions: «Est-ce bien là votre fils que vous dites être aveugle de naissance? Comment se fait-il qu'il y voie maintenant?»
20 His parents answered them and said, “We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
Ses parents répondirent par ces paroles: «Nous savons que c'est là notre fils; nous savons qu'il est né aveugle;
21 and how he now sees, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; he is of age, ask him; he himself will speak concerning himself.”
mais comment il se fait qu'il y voie maintenant, nous ne le savons pas; quel est celui qui lui a ouvert les yeux, nous ne le savons pas. Interrogez-le; il est d'âge à s'expliquer lui-même.»
22 His parents said these things, because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed together, that if anyone may confess Him—Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;
Les parents parlèrent ainsi par crainte des Juifs. Ceux-ci, en effet, avaient déjà décidé que quiconque reconnaîtrait que Jésus était le Christ, serait chassé de la synagogue.
23 because of this his parents said, “He is of age, ask him.”
C'est pour cela que les parents dirent: « Il est d'âge à répondre, interrogez-le.»
24 They called, therefore, the man who was blind a second time, and they said to him, “Give glory to God, we have known that this Man is a sinner”;
Alors les Pharisiens appelèrent pour la seconde fois l'homme qui avait été aveugle. «Rends gloire à Dieu! lui dirent-ils, nous savons que cet homme est un pécheur!»
25 he answered, therefore, and said, “If He is a sinner—I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.”
Et lui, il répondit: «S'il est un pécheur, je ne sais; je sais une chose: j'étais aveugle et maintenant je vois!» —
26 And they said to him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”
«Que t'a-t-il fait? reprirent-ils; comment t'a-t-il ouvert les yeux?»
27 He answered them, “I told you already, and you did not hear; why do you wish to hear [it] again? Do you also wish to become His disciples?”
Il répondit: «Je vous l'ai déjà dit, et vous n'avez pas écouté. Pourquoi voulez-vous l'entendre encore? Voulez-vous, vous aussi, devenir ses disciples?»
28 They reviled him, therefore, and said, “You are His disciple, and we are Moses’ disciples;
Alors ils l'accablèrent d'injures, disant «C'est toi qui es son disciple; nous sommes, nous, disciples de Moïse;
29 we have known that God has spoken to Moses, but this One—we have not known where He is from.”
nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse; quant à cet homme, nous ne savons d'où il est.» —
30 The man answered and said to them, “Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that you have not known where He is from, and He opened my eyes!
«Voici qui est fort étonnant, reprit l’aveugle guéri, vous ne savez d'où il est, alors qu'il m'a ouvert les yeux!
31 And we have known that God does not hear sinners, but if anyone may be a worshiper of God, and may do His will, He hears him;
Nous savons que Dieu n'écoute pas les pécheurs; si, au contraire, quelqu'un craint Dieu et fait sa volonté, c'est celui-là que Dieu écoute.
32 from the age it was not heard that anyone opened eyes of one who has been born blind; (aiōn g165)
Jamais on n'a entendu dire que quelqu'un ait ouvert les yeux d'un aveugle-né. (aiōn g165)
33 if this One were not from God, He were not able to do anything.”
Si cet homme n'était pas de Dieu, il ne pourrait rien faire.» —
34 They answered and said to him, “In sins you were born altogether, and you teach us?” And they cast him forth outside.
«Tu es né dans le péché des pieds à la tête, lui répliquèrent-ils, et tu nous fais la leçon!» Et ils le jetèrent dehors.
35 Jesus heard that they cast him forth outside, and having found him, He said to him, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”
Jésus apprit qu'ils l'avaient ainsi chassé, et l'ayant rencontré, il lui dit: «Crois-tu au Fils de l'homme?»
36 He answered and said, “Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?”
Il lui répondit par ces paroles: «Qui est-il, Seigneur, pour que je croie en lui?»
37 And Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him, and He who is speaking with you is He”;
Jésus lui dit: «Tu l'as vu; celui qui te parle, c'est lui.» —
38 and he said, “I believe, Lord,” and worshiped Him.
«Je crois, Seigneur», dit alors cet homme en se prosternant devant lui.
39 And Jesus said, “I came to this world for judgment, that those not seeing may see, and those seeing may become blind.”
Et Jésus dit: «C'est pour un jugement que je suis venu dans ce monde; c'est pour que les aveugles voient et que ceux qui voient deviennent aveugles.»
40 And those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things, and they said to Him, “Are we also blind?”
Ceux des Pharisiens qui étaient présents entendirent ce mot: «Et nous, demandèrent-ils, sommes nous aussi des aveugles?»
41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you were not having had sin, but now you say—We see, therefore your sin remains.”
Jésus leur répondit: «Si vous étiez aveugles, vous ne seriez point coupables; mais comme vous dites à l'heure présente: «nous voyons», votre culpabilité reste entière.»
