< John 8 >
1 And at dawn He came again to the temple [courts],
pratyūṣe yīśuḥ panarmandiram āgacchat
2 and all the people were coming to Him, and having sat down, He was teaching them;
tataḥ sarvveṣu lokeṣu tasya samīpa āgateṣu sa upaviśya tān upadeṣṭum ārabhata|
3 and the scribes and the Pharisees bring to Him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,
tadā adhyāpakāḥ phirūśinañca vyabhicārakarmmaṇi dhṛtaṁ striyamekām āniya sarvveṣāṁ madhye sthāpayitvā vyāharan
4 they say to Him, “Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime [of] committing adultery,
he guro yoṣitam imāṁ vyabhicārakarmma kurvvāṇāṁ lokā dhṛtavantaḥ|
5 and in the Law, Moses commanded us that such be stoned; You, therefore, what do You say?”
etādṛśalokāḥ pāṣāṇāghātena hantavyā iti vidhirmūsāvyavasthāgranthe likhitosti kintu bhavān kimādiśati?
6 And this they said, trying Him, that they might have to accuse Him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger He was writing on the ground,
te tamapavadituṁ parīkṣābhiprāyeṇa vākyamidam apṛcchan kintu sa prahvībhūya bhūmāvaṅgalyā lekhitum ārabhata|
7 and when they continued asking Him, having bent Himself back, He said to them, “The sinless of you—let him cast the first stone at her”;
tatastaiḥ punaḥ punaḥ pṛṣṭa utthāya kathitavān yuṣmākaṁ madhye yo jano niraparādhī saeva prathamam enāṁ pāṣāṇenāhantu|
8 and again having stooped down, He was writing on the ground,
paścāt sa punaśca prahvībhūya bhūmau lekhitum ārabhata|
9 and they having heard, and being convicted by the conscience, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders—to the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

10 And Jesus having bent Himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, “Woman, where are those—your accusers? Did no one pass sentence on you?”

12 Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I AM the light of the world; he who is following Me will not walk in the darkness, but he will have the light of life.”

14 Jesus answered and said to them, “And if I testify of Myself—My testimony is true, because I have known from where I came, and to where I go, and you have not known from where I come, or to where I go.

21 therefore Jesus said again to them, “I go away, and you will seek Me, and you will die in your sin; to where I go away, you are not able to come.”
