John 7
1 And Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for He did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill Him,
Après cela, Jésus se mit à parcourir la Galilée: il ne voulait pas parcourir la Judée, parce que les Juifs cherchaient à le faire mourir.
2 and the celebration of the Jews was near—that of Shelters—
La fête des Juifs, appelée fête des Tabernacles, approchait.
3 His brothers, therefore, said to Him, “Depart from here, and go away to Judea, that Your disciples may also behold Your works that You do;
Et ses frères lui dirent: Pars d'ici, et va en Judée, afin que tes disciples y voient aussi les oeuvres que tu fais.
4 for no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be in public; if you do these things—reveal Yourself to the world”;
On ne fait rien en secret, quand on cherche à se faire connaître. Puisque tu fais ces choses, manifeste-toi au monde.
5 for not even His brothers were believing in Him.
En effet, ses frères eux-mêmes ne croyaient pas en lui.
6 Jesus, therefore, says to them, “My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready;
Jésus leur dit: Mon temps n'est pas encore venu; pour vous, le temps est toujours favorable.
7 the world is not able to hate you, but it hates Me, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil.
Le monde ne peut vous haïr; mais il me hait, parce que je rends à ce sujet ce témoignage, que ses oeuvres sont mauvaises.
8 You—go up to this celebration; I do not yet go up to this celebration, because My time has not yet been fulfilled”;
Vous, montez à cette fête; pour moi je ne monte pas à cette fête, parce que mon temps n'est pas encore accompli.
9 and saying these things to them, He remained in Galilee.
Après leur avoir dit cela, il demeura en Galilée.
10 And when His brothers went up, then also He Himself went up to the celebration, not openly, but as in secret;
Lorsque ses frères furent montés à la fête, il y monta, lui aussi, mais comme en secret, et non pas publiquement.
11 the Jews, therefore, were seeking Him in the celebration, and said, “Where is that One?”
Les Juifs le cherchaient donc pendant la fête, et ils disaient: Où est-il?
12 And there was much murmuring about Him among the multitudes, some indeed said, “He is good”; and others said, “No, but He leads the multitude astray”;
Et il y avait dans la foule une grande rumeur à son sujet. Les uns disaient: C'est un homme de bien. Et les autres disaient: Non, certes; il séduit le peuple!
13 no one, however, was speaking freely about Him, through fear of the Jews.
Toutefois, personne ne parlait librement de lui, par crainte des Juifs.
14 And it being now the middle of the celebration, Jesus went up to the temple, and He was teaching,
On était déjà au milieu de la fête, lorsque Jésus monta au temple et se mit à enseigner.
15 and the Jews were wondering, saying, “How has this One known letters—having not learned?”
Les Juifs, étonnés, disaient: Comment cet homme connaît-il les Écritures, lui qui n'a pas étudié?
16 Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me;
Jésus leur répondit: Ma doctrine n'est pas de moi, mais de Celui qui m'a envoyé.
17 if anyone may will to do His will, he will know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or—[if] I speak from Myself.
Si quelqu'un veut faire la volonté de Dieu, il connaîtra si ma doctrine est de Dieu, ou si je parle de mon chef.
18 He who is speaking from himself seeks his own glory, but he who is seeking the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and unrighteousness is not in him;
Celui qui parle de son chef cherche sa propre gloire; mais celui qui cherche la gloire de celui qui l'a envoyé, est digne de foi, et il n'y a point d'injustice en lui.
19 has not Moses given you the Law? And none of you does the Law; why do you seek to kill Me?”
Moïse ne vous a-t-il pas donné la Loi? Et aucun de vous n'observe la Loi! Pourquoi cherchez-vous à me faire mourir?
20 The multitude answered and said, “You have a demon, who seeks to kill You?”
La foule répondit: Tu es possédé d'un démon; qui donc cherche à te faire mourir?
21 Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all wonder,
Jésus reprit en disant: J'ai fait une oeuvre, et vous en êtes tous étonnés.
22 because of this, Moses has given you the circumcision—not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers—and on a Sabbath you circumcise a man;
Moïse vous a donné la circoncision — qui vient, non de Moïse, lui-même, mais des patriarches, — et vous la pratiquez le jour du sabbat!
23 if a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath that the Law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with Me that I made a man all whole on a Sabbath?
Si un homme reçoit la circoncision le jour du sabbat, afin que la loi de Moïse ne soit pas violée, pourquoi vous irritez-vous contre moi, parce que j'ai guéri un homme, dans son corps tout entier, le jour du sabbat?
24 Do not judge according to appearance, but the righteous judgment judge.”
Ne jugez pas sur l'apparence; mais jugez selon la justice.
25 Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, “Is this not He whom they are seeking to kill?
Quelques-uns des habitants de Jérusalem disaient: N'est-ce pas là celui qu'on cherche à faire mourir?
26 And behold, He speaks freely, and they say nothing to Him; did the rulers truly know that this is the Christ?
Le voici qui parle librement, et on ne lui dit rien. Les chefs auraient-ils vraiment reconnu qu'il est le Christ?
27 But this One—we have known where He is from; and the Christ, when He comes, no one knows where He is from.”
Nous savons pourtant d'où est celui-ci; or, quand le Christ viendra, personne ne saura d'où il est.
28 Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, “You have both known Me, and you have known from where I am; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you have not known;
Alors Jésus, enseignant dans le temple, s'écria: Vous me connaissez, et vous savez d'où je suis. Je ne suis pas venu de moi-même, mais Celui qui m'a envoyé est véritable, et vous ne le connaissez pas.
29 and I have known Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”
Moi, je le connais; car je viens de lui, et c'est lui qui m'a envoyé.
30 They were seeking, therefore, to seize Him, and no one laid the hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come,
Ils cherchaient donc à l'arrêter; cependant personne ne mit la main sur lui, parce que son heure n'était pas encore venue.
31 and many out of the multitude believed in Him and said, “The Christ—when He may come—will He do more signs than these that this One did?”
Parmi le peuple, il y en eut beaucoup qui crurent en Jésus, et ils disaient: Quand le Christ viendra, fera-t-il plus de miracles que n'en fait celui-ci?
32 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take Him;
Les pharisiens entendirent les propos que la foule tenait à son sujet; et, de concert avec eux, les principaux sacrificateurs envoyèrent des agents pour s'emparer de lui.
33 Jesus, therefore, said to them, “Yet a short time I am with you, and I go away to Him who sent Me;
Jésus dit alors: Je suis encore avec vous pour un peu de temps; puis, je m'en vais à Celui qui m'a envoyé.
34 you will seek Me, and you will not find; and where I am, you are not able to come.”
Vous me chercherez et vous ne me trouverez pas, et là où je suis, vous ne pouvez venir.
35 The Jews, therefore, said among themselves, “To where is this One about to go that we will not find Him? Is He about to go to the dispersion of the Greeks, and to teach the Greeks?
Les Juifs se dirent entre eux: Où doit-il donc aller, que nous ne le trouverons pas? Doit-il aller vers ceux qui sont dispersés parmi les Grecs et enseigner les Grecs?
36 What is this word that He said, You will seek Me, and you will not find? And, Where I am, you are not able to come?”
Que signifie ce qu'il a dit: Vous me chercherez, et vous ne me trouverez pas, et là où je suis, vous ne pouvez venir?
37 And in the last, the great day of the celebration, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink;
Le dernier, le grand jour de la fête, Jésus était là, debout, et il s'écria: Si quelqu'un a soif, qu'il vienne à moi, et qu'il boive.
38 he who is believing in Me, according as the Writing said, Rivers of living water will flow out of his belly”;
Celui qui croit en moi, des fleuves d'eau vive, comme l'a dit l'Écriture, couleront de son sein.
39 and this He said of the Spirit, which those believing in Him were about to receive; for not yet was the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Il disait cela de l'Esprit que devaient recevoir ceux qui croiraient en lui; car l'Esprit n'avait pas encore été donné, parce que Jésus n'était pas encore glorifié.
40 Many, therefore, out of the multitude, having heard the word, said, “This is truly the Prophet”;
Plusieurs, parmi la foule, ayant entendu ces paroles, disaient: Celui-ci est véritablement le prophète.
41 others said, “This is the Christ”; and others said, “Why, does the Christ come out of Galilee?
D'autres disaient: C'est le Christ. D'autres encore: Le Christ viendra-t-il de la Galilée?
42 Did the Writing not say that out of the seed of David, and from Beth-Lehem—the village where David was—the Christ comes?”
L'Écriture ne dit-elle pas que c'est de la famille de David et du village de Bethléhem, d'où était David, que le Christ doit sortir?
43 A division, therefore, arose among the multitude because of Him.
Le peuple était donc divisé à son sujet.
44 And certain of them were willing to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him;
Et quelques-uns d'entre eux voulaient l'arrêter; mais personne ne mit la main sur lui.
45 the officers came, therefore, to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
Les agents retournèrent donc vers les principaux sacrificateurs et les pharisiens; et ceux-ci leur dirent: Pourquoi ne l'avez-vous pas amené?
46 The officers answered, “Never so spoke man—as this Man.”
Les agents répondirent: Jamais homme n'a parlé comme cet homme!
47 The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, “Have you also been led astray?
Les pharisiens leur dirent: Avez-vous été séduits, vous aussi?
48 Did anyone out of the rulers believe in Him? Or out of the Pharisees?
Y a-t-il un seul des chefs ou des pharisiens qui ait cru en lui?
49 But this multitude, that is not knowing the Law, is accursed.”
Mais cette populace, qui ne connaît point la Loi, est exécrable!
50 Nicodemus says to them—he who came by night to Him—being one of them,
Nicodème — celui qui était venu précédemment trouver Jésus et qui était l'un d'entre eux — leur dit:
51 “Does our law judge the Man, if it may not hear from Him first, and know what He does?”
Notre Loi juge-t-elle un homme sans qu'on l'ait entendu d'abord, et sans qu'on ait pris connaissance de ce qu'il a fait?
52 They answered and said to him, “Are you also out of Galilee? Search and see that a prophet has not risen out of Galilee”; [[
Ils lui répondirent: Es-tu Galiléen, toi aussi? Informe-toi, et tu verras qu'il ne sort pas de prophète de la Galilée.
53 and each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the Mount of Olives.
[Chacun se retira dans sa maison.]
