< John 7 >
1 And Jesus was walking after these things in Galilee, for He did not wish to walk in Judea, because the Jews were seeking to kill Him,
After these things, Yeshua [Salvation] was walking in Galilee [District, Circuit], for he would not walk in Judea [Praise], because the Jews [Praisers] sought to kill him.
2 and the celebration of the Jews was near—that of Shelters—
Now the festival of Sukkot ·Tabernacles·, the Festival of Booths, was at hand. (The seventh month Ethanim ·Ever-flowing durable stream (in Hebrew), 7· or Tishrei ·[Beginning (in Babylonian)]· 15th day).
3 His brothers, therefore, said to Him, “Depart from here, and go away to Judea, that Your disciples may also behold Your works that You do;
His brothers therefore said to him, “Depart from here, and go into Judea [Praise], that your disciples also may see your works which you do.
4 for no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be in public; if you do these things—reveal Yourself to the world”;
For no one does anything in secret, and himself seeks to be known openly. If you do these things, reveal yourself to the world.”
5 for not even His brothers were believing in Him.
For even his brothers didn’t trust in him.
6 Jesus, therefore, says to them, “My time is not yet present, but your time is always ready;
Yeshua [Salvation] therefore said to them, “My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.
7 the world is not able to hate you, but it hates Me, because I testify concerning it that its works are evil.
The world can’t hate you, but it hates me, because I testify about it, that its works are evil.
8 You—go up to this celebration; I do not yet go up to this celebration, because My time has not yet been fulfilled”;
You go up to the feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, because my time is not yet fulfilled.”
9 and saying these things to them, He remained in Galilee.
Having said these things to them, he stayed in Galilee [District, Circuit].
10 And when His brothers went up, then also He Himself went up to the celebration, not openly, but as in secret;
But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not publicly, but as it were in secret.
11 the Jews, therefore, were seeking Him in the celebration, and said, “Where is that One?”
The Jews [Praisers] therefore sought him at the feast, and said, “Where is he?”
12 And there was much murmuring about Him among the multitudes, some indeed said, “He is good”; and others said, “No, but He leads the multitude astray”;
There was much murmuring among the multitudes concerning him. Some said, “He is a good man.” Others said, “Not so, but he leads the multitude astray.”
13 no one, however, was speaking freely about Him, through fear of the Jews.
Yet no one spoke openly of him for fear of the Jews [Praisers].
14 And it being now the middle of the celebration, Jesus went up to the temple, and He was teaching,
But when it was now the middle of the feast, Yeshua [Salvation] went up into the temple and taught.
15 and the Jews were wondering, saying, “How has this One known letters—having not learned?”
The Jews [Praisers] therefore marveled, saying, “How does this man know so much, without having studied?”
16 Jesus answered them and said, “My teaching is not Mine, but His who sent Me;
Yeshua [Salvation] therefore answered them, “My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.
17 if anyone may will to do His will, he will know concerning the teaching, whether it is of God, or—[if] I speak from Myself.
If anyone desires to do his will, he will know about the teaching, whether it is from God, or if I am speaking from myself.
18 He who is speaking from himself seeks his own glory, but he who is seeking the glory of him who sent him, this one is true, and unrighteousness is not in him;
He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory, but he who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and no sinfulness ·legal injustice that misses the mark and is without share in the goal· is in him.
19 has not Moses given you the Law? And none of you does the Law; why do you seek to kill Me?”
Didn’t Moses [Drawn out] give you the Torah ·Teaching·? Yet none of you keeps Torah ·Teaching·! Why do you seek to kill me?”
20 The multitude answered and said, “You have a demon, who seeks to kill You?”
The multitude answered, “You have a demon! Who seeks to kill you?”
21 Jesus answered and said to them, “I did one work, and you all wonder,
Yeshua [Salvation] answered them, “I did one work, and you all marvel because of it.
22 because of this, Moses has given you the circumcision—not that it is of Moses, but of the fathers—and on a Sabbath you circumcise a man;
Moses [Drawn out] has given you circumcision (not that it is of Moses [Drawn out], but of the Patriarchs), and on the Sabbath ·To cease· you circumcise a boy.
23 if a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath that the Law of Moses may not be broken, are you angry with Me that I made a man all whole on a Sabbath?
If a boy receives circumcision on the Sabbath ·To cease·, that the Torah ·Teaching· of Moses [Drawn out] may not be broken, are you angry with me, because I made a man completely healthy on the Sabbath ·To cease·?
24 Do not judge according to appearance, but the righteous judgment judge.”
Don’t judge according to appearance, but judge upright judgment.”
25 Certain, therefore, of the Jerusalemites said, “Is this not He whom they are seeking to kill?
Therefore some of them of Jerusalem [City of peace] said, “Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
26 And behold, He speaks freely, and they say nothing to Him; did the rulers truly know that this is the Christ?
Behold, he speaks openly, and they say nothing to him. Can it be that the rulers indeed know that this is truly the Messiah [Anointed one]?
27 But this One—we have known where He is from; and the Christ, when He comes, no one knows where He is from.”
However we know where this man comes from, but when the Messiah [Anointed one] comes, no one will know where he comes from.”
28 Jesus cried, therefore, in the temple, teaching and saying, “You have both known Me, and you have known from where I am; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you have not known;
Yeshua [Salvation] therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know.
29 and I have known Him, because I am from Him, and He sent Me.”
I know him, because I am from him, and he sent me.”
30 They were seeking, therefore, to seize Him, and no one laid the hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come,
They sought therefore to take him; but no one laid a hand on him, because his hour had not yet come.
31 and many out of the multitude believed in Him and said, “The Christ—when He may come—will He do more signs than these that this One did?”
But of the multitude, many trusted in him. They said, “When the Messiah [Anointed one] comes, he won’t do more signs than those which this man has done, will he?”
32 The Pharisees heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers that they may take Him;
The Pharisees [Separated] heard the multitude murmuring these things concerning him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees [Separated] sent officers to arrest him.
33 Jesus, therefore, said to them, “Yet a short time I am with you, and I go away to Him who sent Me;
Then Yeshua [Salvation] said, “I will be with you a little while longer, then I go to him who sent me.
34 you will seek Me, and you will not find; and where I am, you are not able to come.”
You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come.”
35 The Jews, therefore, said among themselves, “To where is this One about to go that we will not find Him? Is He about to go to the dispersion of the Greeks, and to teach the Greeks?
The Jews [Praisers] therefore said among themselves, “Where will this man go that we won’t find him? Will he go to the Dispersion among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
36 What is this word that He said, You will seek Me, and you will not find? And, Where I am, you are not able to come?”
What is this word that he said, ‘You will seek me, and won’t find me; and where I am, you can’t come’?”
37 And in the last, the great day of the celebration, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink;
Now on the last day of the festival (of Tabernacles, the seventh day called Hoshana Rabbah ·Save now Great·, the seventh month Ethanim ·Ever-flowing durable stream (in Hebrew), 7· or Tishrei ·[Beginning (in Babylonian)]· 21st day)), Yeshua [Salvation] stood and cried out, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink!
38 he who is believing in Me, according as the Writing said, Rivers of living water will flow out of his belly”;
Whoever puts his trust in me, as the Scripture says, rivers of living water will flow from his inmost being!”
39 and this He said of the Spirit, which those believing in Him were about to receive; for not yet was the Holy Spirit, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
But he said this about the Ruach ·Spirit, Breath·, which those trusting in him were to receive. For the Holy Ruach ·Spirit, Breath· was not yet given, because Yeshua [Salvation] was not yet glorified.
40 Many, therefore, out of the multitude, having heard the word, said, “This is truly the Prophet”;
Many of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, “This is truly the prophet.”
41 others said, “This is the Christ”; and others said, “Why, does the Christ come out of Galilee?
Others said, “This is the Messiah [Anointed one].” But some said, “What, does the Messiah [Anointed one] come out of Galilee [District, Circuit]?
42 Did the Writing not say that out of the seed of David, and from Beth-Lehem—the village where David was—the Christ comes?”
Has not the Scripture said that the Messiah [Anointed one] comes of the offspring of David [Beloved], and from Bethlehem [House of Bread], the village where David [Beloved] lived?”
43 A division, therefore, arose among the multitude because of Him.
So there arose a division in the multitude because of him.
44 And certain of them were willing to seize Him, but no one laid hands on Him;
Some of them would have arrested him, but no one laid hands on him.
45 the officers came, therefore, to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?”
The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees [Separated], and they said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him?”
46 The officers answered, “Never so spoke man—as this Man.”
The officers answered, “No man ever spoke like this man!”
47 The Pharisees, therefore, answered them, “Have you also been led astray?
The Pharisees [Separated] therefore answered them, “You are not also led astray, are you?
48 Did anyone out of the rulers believe in Him? Or out of the Pharisees?
Have any of the rulers trusted in him, or of the Pharisees [Separated]?
49 But this multitude, that is not knowing the Law, is accursed.”
True, these 'am-ha'aretz ·people of the land· do, but they know nothing about the Torah ·Teaching·, they are under a curse!”
50 Nicodemus says to them—he who came by night to Him—being one of them,
Nicodemus [Victory people] (he who came to him by night, being one of the Pharisees [Separated]) said to them,
51 “Does our law judge the Man, if it may not hear from Him first, and know what He does?”
“Our Torah ·Teaching· does not condemn a man, does it, until after hearing from him personally and finding out what he’s doing?”
52 They answered and said to him, “Are you also out of Galilee? Search and see that a prophet has not risen out of Galilee”; [[
They answered him, “Are you also from Galilee [District, Circuit]? Search, and see that no prophet has arisen out of Galilee [District, Circuit].”
53 and each one went on to his house, but Jesus went on to the Mount of Olives.
Everyone went to his own house.
