John 18
1 Having said these things, Jesus went forth with His disciples beyond the Brook of Kidron, where [there] was a garden, into which He entered, Himself and His disciples,
Después que Jesús hubo terminado de hablar, él y sus discípulos cruzaron el arroyo de Cedrón y entraron a un olivar.
2 and Judas also, who delivered Him up, had known the place, because Jesus assembled there with His disciples many times.
Judas, el traidor, conocía el lugar porque Jesús había ido allí a menudo con sus discípulos.
3 Judas, therefore, having taken the band and officers out of the chief priests and Pharisees, comes there with torches and lamps, and weapons;
Entonces Judas llevó consigo una tropa de soldados y guardias enviados de parte de los jefes de los sacerdotes y los fariseos. Llegaron al lugar con antorchas, lámparas y armas.
4 Jesus, therefore, knowing all things that are coming on Him, having gone forth, said to them, “Whom do you seek?”
Jesús sabía todo lo que le iba a pasar. Así que fue a recibirlos y preguntó: “¿A quién buscan ustedes?”
5 They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene”; Jesus says to them, “I AM”; and Judas who delivered Him up was standing with them.
“¿Eres tú Jesús de Nazaret?” dijeron ellos. “Yo soy”, les dijo Jesús. Judas, el traidor, estaba con ellos.
6 When, therefore, He said to them, “I AM,” they went away backward, and fell to the ground.
Cuando Jesús dijo “Yo soy”, ellos retrocedieron y cayeron al suelo.
7 Again, therefore, He questioned them, “Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene”;
Entonces él les preguntó nuevamente: “¿A quién buscan?” “¿Eres tú Jesús de Nazaret?” le preguntaron una vez más.
8 Jesus answered, “I said to you that I AM; if, then, you seek Me, permit these to go away”;
“Ya les dije que yo soy”, respondió Jesús. “Así que si es a mí a quien buscan, dejen ir a estos que están aquí”.
9 that the word might be fulfilled that He said, “Those whom You have given to Me, I did not lose even one of them.”
Estas palabras cumplieron lo que él había dicho anteriormente: “No he dejado perder a ninguno de los que me diste”.
10 Simon Peter, therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the chief priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear—and the name of the servant was Malchus—
Entonces Simón Pedro sacó una espada e hirió a Malco, el siervo del Sumo sacerdote, cortándole la oreja derecha.
11 Jesus, therefore, said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; the cup that the Father has given to Me, may I not drink it?”
Jesús le dijo a Pedro: “¡Guarda esa espada! ¿Crees que no debo beber la copa que mi Padre me ha dado?”
12 The band, therefore, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, took hold on Jesus, and bound Him,
Entonces los soldados, su comandante y los guardias judíos arrestaron a Jesús y ataron sus manos.
13 and they led Him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was chief priest of that year,
Primero lo llevaron ante Anás, quien era el suegro de Caifás, el actual Sumo sacerdote.
14 and Caiaphas was he who gave counsel to the Jews that it is good for one man to perish for the people.
Caifás fue el que dijo a los judíos: “Es mejor que muera un solo hombre por el pueblo”.
15 And following Jesus was Simon Peter, and the other disciple, and that disciple was known to the chief priest, and he entered with Jesus into the hall of the chief priest,
Simón Pedro siguió a Jesús, y otro discípulo también lo hizo. Este discípulo era muy conocido por el Sumo sacerdote, y por eso entró al patio del Sumo sacerdote con Jesús.
16 and Peter was standing at the door outside, therefore the other disciple who was known to the chief priest went forth, and he spoke to the doorkeeper, and he brought in Peter.
Pedro tuvo que permanecer fuera, cerca de la puerta. Entonces el otro discípulo, que era conocido del Sumo sacerdote, fue y habló con la criada que cuidaba de la puerta, e hizo entrar a Pedro.
17 Then the maid, the doorkeeper, says to Peter, “Are you also of the disciples of this Man?” He says, “I am not”;
La criada le preguntó a Pedro: “¿No eres tú uno de los discípulos de ese hombre?” “¿Yo? No, no lo soy”, respondió.
18 and the servants and the officers were standing, having made a fire of coals, because it was cold, and they were warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.
Hacía frío y los siervos y guardias estaban junto a una fogata que habían hecho para calentarse. Pedro se les acercó y se quedó allí con ellos, calentándose también.
19 The chief priests, therefore, questioned Jesus concerning His disciples, and concerning His teaching;
Entonces el jefe de los sacerdotes interrogó a Jesús sobre sus discípulos y lo que él había estado enseñando.
20 Jesus answered him, “I spoke freely to the world, I always taught in a synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always come together; and I spoke nothing in secret;
“Yo le he hablado abiertamente a todos”, respondió Jesús. “Siempre enseñé en las sinagogas y en el Templo, donde se reunían todos los judíos. No he dicho nada en secreto.
21 why do you question Me? Question those having heard what I spoke to them; behold, these have known what I said.”
Entonces ¿por qué me interrogan? Pregúntenles a las personas que me escucharon lo que les dije. Ellos saben lo que dije”.
22 And He having said these things, one of the officers standing by gave Jesus a slap, saying, “Thus do You answer the chief priest?”
Cuando él dijo esto, uno de los guardias que estaba cerca le dio una bofetada a Jesús, diciendo: “¿Es esa la manera de hablarle al Sumo sacerdote?”
23 Jesus answered him, “If I spoke ill, testify concerning the ill; and if well, why do you strike Me?”
Jesús respondió: “Si he dicho algo malo, díganle a todos qué fue lo que dije. Pero si lo que dije estuvo bien, ¿por qué me golpeaste?”
24 Annas then sent Him bound to Caiaphas the chief priest.
Anás lo envió, con las manos atadas, ante Caifás, el Sumo sacerdote.
25 And Simon Peter was standing and warming himself, then they said to him, “Are you also of His disciples?” He denied and said, “I am not.”
Mientras Simón Pedro estaba calentándose cerca a la fogata, las personas que estaban allí le preguntaron: “¿No eres tú uno de sus discípulos?” Pedro lo negó y dijo: “No, no lo soy”.
26 One of the servants of the chief priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?”
Uno de los siervos del sumo sacerdote, que era familiar del hombre a quien Pedro le había cortado la oreja, le preguntó a Pedro: “¿Acaso no te vi en el olivar con él?”
27 Again, therefore, Peter denied, and immediately a rooster crowed.
Pedro lo negó una vez más, e inmediatamente un galló cantó.
28 They led, therefore, Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early, and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover;
Temprano en la mañana, llevaron a Jesús de donde Caifás hasta el palacio del gobernador romano. Los líderes judíos no entraron al palacio, porque si lo hacían se contaminarían ceremonialmente, y ellos querían estar aptos para comer la Pascua.
29 Pilate, therefore, went forth to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this Man?”
Entonces Pilato salió a recibirlos. “¿Qué cargos traen en contra de este hombre?” preguntó él.
30 They answered and said to him, “If He were not doing evil, we had not delivered Him to you.”
“Si no fuera un criminal, no lo habríamos traído ante ti”, respondieron ellos.
31 Pilate, therefore, said to them, “Take Him—you—and judge Him according to your law”; the Jews, therefore, said to him, “It is not lawful to us to put anyone to death”;
“Entonces llévenselo y júzguenlo conforme a la ley de ustedes”, les dijo Pilato. “No se nos permite ejecutar a nadie”, respondieron los judíos.
32 that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which He said, signifying by what death He was about to die.
Esto cumplía lo que Jesús había dicho acerca de la manera en que iba a morir.
33 Pilate, therefore, entered into the Praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to Him, “You are the King of the Jews?”
Pilato regresó al palacio del gobernador. Llamó a Jesús y le preguntó: “¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos?”
34 Jesus answered him, “Do you say this from yourself? Or did others say it to you about Me?”
“¿Se te ocurrió a ti mismo esta pregunta, o ya otros te han hablado de mí?” respondió Jesús.
35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your nation and the chief priests delivered You up to me; what did You do?”
“¿Soy yo un judío acaso?” argumentó Pilato. “Fue tu propio pueblo y también los sumos sacerdotes quienes te trajeron aquí ante mí. ¿Qué es lo que has hecho?”
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world; if My kingdom were of this world, My officers had struggled that I might not be delivered up to Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”
Jesús respondió: “Mi reino no es de este mundo. Si mi reino fuera de este mundo, mis súbditos pelearían para protegerme de los judíos. Pero mi reino no es de aquí”.
37 Pilate, therefore, said to Him, “Are You then a king?” Jesus answered, “You say [it], because I am a king; I have been born for this, and I have come into the world for this, that I may testify to the truth; everyone who is of the truth, hears My voice.”
Entonces Pilato preguntó: “¿Entonces eres un rey?” “Tú dices que yo soy un rey”, respondió Jesús. “La razón por la que nací y vine al mundo fue para dar evidencia en favor de la verdad. Todos los que aceptan la verdad, atienden lo que yo digo”.
38 Pilate says to Him, “What is truth?” And having said this, again he went forth to the Jews and says to them, “I find no fault in Him;
“¿Qué es verdad?” preguntó Pilato. Habiendo dicho esto, Pilato regresó afuera, donde estaban los judíos, y les dijo: “Yo no lo encuentro culpable de ningún crimen.
39 and you have a custom that I will release to you one in the Passover; do you determine, therefore, [that] I will release to you the King of the Jews?”
Sin embargo, como es costumbre liberar a un prisionero para la fiesta de la Pascua, ¿quieren que libere al rey de los judíos?”
40 Therefore they all cried out again, saying, “Not this One—but Barabbas”; and Barabbas was a robber.
“¡No, no lo sueltes a él! ¡Preferimos que sueltes a Barrabás!” volvieron a gritar. Barrabás era un rebelde.
