< John 18 >

1 Having said these things, Jesus went forth with His disciples beyond the Brook of Kidron, where [there] was a garden, into which He entered, Himself and His disciples,
Jesuh loh hekah he a thui phoeiah a hnukbang rhoek neh Kidron sok rhalvangan la cet. Teah te dum pakhat om tih a hnukbang rhoek te a khuila a kun puei.
2 and Judas also, who delivered Him up, had known the place, because Jesus assembled there with His disciples many times.
Tekah hmuen ah a hnukbang rhoek neh Jesuh a humtun uh taitu dongah amah aka voei Judas long khaw a hmuen te a ming.
3 Judas, therefore, having taken the band and officers out of the chief priests and Pharisees, comes there with torches and lamps, and weapons;
Te dongah Judas loh caem a khuen hatah khosoihham neh Pharisee rhoek kah tueihyoeih rhoek long khaw hmaiim, hmaithoi, pumcumnah neh ha pawk uh.
4 Jesus, therefore, knowing all things that are coming on Him, having gone forth, said to them, “Whom do you seek?”
Jesuh loh amah soah aka lo boeih te a ming dongah amih taengla cet tih, “Ulae na toem uh?” a ti nah.
5 They answered Him, “Jesus the Nazarene”; Jesus says to them, “I AM”; and Judas who delivered Him up was standing with them.
Amah te, “Nazareth Jesuh,” a ti nauh. Amih te khaw, “Kai ni he,” a ti nah. Te vaengah amah aka voei Judas khaw amih taengah pai.
6 When, therefore, He said to them, “I AM,” they went away backward, and fell to the ground.
Te dongah amih te, “Kai ni,” a ti nah vaengah a hnuk la nong uh tih lai la bung uh.
7 Again, therefore, He questioned them, “Whom do you seek?” And they said, “Jesus the Nazarene”;
Te vaengah, “Nazareth Jesuh,” a ti uh.
8 Jesus answered, “I said to you that I AM; if, then, you seek Me, permit these to go away”;
Te dongah kai ni nan toem uh atah hekah rhoek he hlah uh lamtah nong saeh,” a ti nah.
9 that the word might be fulfilled that He said, “Those whom You have given to Me, I did not lose even one of them.”
Te daengah ni, “Amih te kai nan paek coeng dongah amih khuikah pakhat khaw ka hlong moenih,” tila a thui olka te soep eh.
10 Simon Peter, therefore, having a sword, drew it, and struck the chief priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear—and the name of the servant was Malchus—
Te vaengah Simon Peter loh a khueh cunghang te a yueh tih khosoihham kah sal te a boeng tih bantang hna te a hlueng pah Sal te a ming Malkhu ni.
11 Jesus, therefore, said to Peter, “Put the sword into the sheath; the cup that the Father has given to Me, may I not drink it?”
12 The band, therefore, and the captain, and the officers of the Jews, took hold on Jesus, and bound Him,
Te vaengah caem, rhalboeipa neh Judah rhoek kah tueihyoeih rhoek loh Jesuh te a tuuk uh tih a khih uh phoeiah Annas taengah lamhma la a khuen uh.
13 and they led Him away to Annas first, for he was father-in-law of Caiaphas, who was chief priest of that year,
14 and Caiaphas was he who gave counsel to the Jews that it is good for one man to perish for the people.
Te vaengah aka om Kaiaphas loh, “Hlang pakhat loh pilnam ham a duek te rhoei ngai, “tila Judah rhoek te a uen.
15 And following Jesus was Simon Peter, and the other disciple, and that disciple was known to the chief priest, and he entered with Jesus into the hall of the chief priest,
Te vaengah Jesuh te Simon Peter neh hnukbang pakhat loh a vai. Tekah hnukbang te khaw khosoihham aka hmat la a om dongah Jesuh taengah khosoihham kah vongup la kun.
16 and Peter was standing at the door outside, therefore the other disciple who was known to the chief priest went forth, and he spoke to the doorkeeper, and he brought in Peter.
Tedae Peter tah thohka ah hoei pai. Te dongah khosoihham aka hmat hnukbang pakhat te cet tih imtawt nu te a voek phoeiah Peter te a khuen.
17 Then the maid, the doorkeeper, says to Peter, “Are you also of the disciples of this Man?” He says, “I am not”;
Anih loh, “Ka om moenih,” a ti nah.
18 and the servants and the officers were standing, having made a fire of coals, because it was cold, and they were warming themselves, and Peter was standing with them, and warming himself.
Te vaengkah aka pai sal rhoek neh tueihyoeih rhoek loh khosik la a om dongah hmai a toih tih a om uh.
19 The chief priests, therefore, questioned Jesus concerning His disciples, and concerning His teaching;
Te vaengah khosoihham loh Jesuh te a hnukbang kawng neh a thuituennah kawng te a dawt.
20 Jesus answered him, “I spoke freely to the world, I always taught in a synagogue, and in the temple, where the Jews always come together; and I spoke nothing in secret;
Jesuh loh, “Kai loh Diklai taengah sayalh la ka thui coeng. Judah rhoek boeih a tingtun nah tunim neh bawkim ah ka thuituen taitu tih a huephael la ka thui moenih.
21 why do you question Me? Question those having heard what I spoke to them; behold, these have known what I said.”
Balae tih kai nan dawt? Ka thui te aka ya amih taengah dawt. Kai loh ka thui te amih loh a ming uh lahko,” a ti nah.
22 And He having said these things, one of the officers standing by gave Jesus a slap, saying, “Thus do You answer the chief priest?”
Tedae hekah he a thui vaengah aka pai tueihyoeih pakhat loh Jesuh te kutcaihnah la a khueh tih, “Khosoihham te na voek van pueng,” a ti nah.
23 Jesus answered him, “If I spoke ill, testify concerning the ill; and if well, why do you strike Me?”
Jesuh loh anih te, A thae la ka cal atah a thae te han thui. Tedae a thuem atah balae tih kai nan boh,” a ti nah.
24 Annas then sent Him bound to Caiaphas the chief priest.
Te phoeiah Annas loh Jesuh te a khih tih khosoihham Kaiaphas taengla a thak.
25 And Simon Peter was standing and warming himself, then they said to him, “Are you also of His disciples?” He denied and said, “I am not.”
26 One of the servants of the chief priest, being a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, says, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?”
Khosoihham kah sal rhoek khuikah pakhat Peter loh a hna a hlueng pah te a huiko la om loh, “Kai loh anih neh nang te dum ah kan hmuh moenih a?” a ti nah.
27 Again, therefore, Peter denied, and immediately a rooster crowed.
Tedae Peter koep a basa vaengah ai pahoi khong.
28 They led, therefore, Jesus from Caiaphas into the Praetorium, and it was early, and they themselves did not enter into the Praetorium, that they might not be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover;
Te phoeiah Jesuh te Kaiaphas taeng lamloh khoboeiyung la a khuen uh. Tedae a yue aih pueng dongah amih te khoboeiyung la kun uh pawh. Te daengah ni boi uh pawt vetih yoom te a vael mong eh.
29 Pilate, therefore, went forth to them and said, “What accusation do you bring against this Man?”
30 They answered and said to him, “If He were not doing evil, we had not delivered Him to you.”
Te vaengah anih a doo uh, “Anih loh a thae la a saii te om pawt koinih nang taengla anih kan thak uh mahpawh,” a ti uh.
31 Pilate, therefore, said to them, “Take Him—you—and judge Him according to your law”; the Jews, therefore, said to him, “It is not lawful to us to put anyone to death”;
Te dongah Pilat loh amih te, “Anih te namamih loh khuen uh lamtah namamih kah olkhueng bangla laitloek uh,” a ti nah. Judah rhoek loh, “Kaimih n'ngawn sak loengloeng moenih,” a ti uh.
32 that the word of Jesus might be fulfilled which He said, signifying by what death He was about to die.
Te daengah ni Jesuh kah olka loh, 'Duek ham cai tih dueknah te a phoe,’ a ti te a soep eh.
33 Pilate, therefore, entered into the Praetorium again, and called Jesus, and said to Him, “You are the King of the Jews?”
Te phoeiah Pilat te khoboeiyung la koep kun tih Jesuh te a khue phoeiah, “Nang he Judah manghaila na om a?” a ti nah.
34 Jesus answered him, “Do you say this from yourself? Or did others say it to you about Me?”
Jesuh loh, “Hekah he nang loh namah lamkah nim na thui? A tloe rhoek loh nang taengah kai kawng han thui a?” a ti nah.
35 Pilate answered, “Am I a Jew? Your nation and the chief priests delivered You up to me; what did You do?”
Pilat loh, “Kai he Judah hlang la ka om ngawn pawh. Balae na saii tih na namtu neh khosoihham rhoek loh kai taengla nang n'thak?” a ti nah.
36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world; if My kingdom were of this world, My officers had struggled that I might not be delivered up to Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”
Jesuh loh, “Kai kah ram tah he Diklai kah ram la om pawh. Kai kah ram tah he Diklai kah ram la om koinih Judah rhoek te kai m'voeih pawt ham ka tueihyoeih rhoek loh a hnueih uh ni. Tedae kai kah ram te heah om pawh,” a ti nah.
37 Pilate, therefore, said to Him, “Are You then a king?” Jesus answered, “You say [it], because I am a king; I have been born for this, and I have come into the world for this, that I may testify to the truth; everyone who is of the truth, hears My voice.”
Oltak kah hlang la aka om boeih loh kai ol a hnatun,” a ti nah.
38 Pilate says to Him, “What is truth?” And having said this, again he went forth to the Jews and says to them, “I find no fault in Him;
Pilat loh, “Oltak te ba lae?” a ti nah. Hekah he a thui phoeiah Judah rhoek taengla koep cet tih amamih te, “Anih dongah paelnaehnah ka hmuh moenih.
39 and you have a custom that I will release to you one in the Passover; do you determine, therefore, [that] I will release to you the King of the Jews?”
Tedae yoom ah nangmih taengkah pakhat ka hlah ham namamih khosing om. Te dongah Judah manghai te hlah ham nangmih na ngaih uh a?” a ti nah.
40 Therefore they all cried out again, saying, “Not this One—but Barabbas”; and Barabbas was a robber.
Te dongah koep pang uh tih, “Anih moenih Barabbas te,” a ti uh. Te vaengah Barabbas tah dingca la om.
