Job 1
1 There has been a man in the land of Uz—his name Job—and that man has been perfect and upright—both fearing God, and turning aside from evil.
Był w ziemi Uz człowiek imieniem Hiob; ten człowiek był doskonały i prawy, i bojący się Boga, a stroniący od zła.
2 And seven sons and three daughters are borne to him,
I urodziło mu się siedmiu synów i trzy córki.
3 and his substance is seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and a very abundant service; and that man is greater than any of the sons of the east.
A jego dobytek stanowiło siedem tysięcy owiec, trzy tysiące wielbłądów, pięćset jarzm wołów i pięćset oślic; [miał też] bardzo liczną służbę. Był on człowiekiem najmożniejszym wśród wszystkich ludzi Wschodu.
4 And his sons have gone and made a banquet—the house of each [in] his day—and have sent and called to their three sisters to eat and to drink with them;
Jego synowie schodzili się i urządzali ucztę, każdy w [swoim] domu w ustalonym dniu. Posyłali po swoje trzy siostry i zapraszali je, aby jadły i piły wraz z nimi.
5 and it comes to pass, when they have gone around the days of the banquet, that Job sends and sanctifies them, and has risen early in the morning, and caused burnt-offerings to ascend—the number of them all—for Job said, “Perhaps my sons have sinned, yet blessed God in their heart.” Thus Job does all the days.
A gdy minęły dni uczty, Hiob posyłał i poświęcał ich. Potem wstawał wczesnym rankiem i składał całopalenia [stosownie do] ich liczby. Mówił bowiem Hiob: Może moi synowie zgrzeszyli i złorzeczyli Bogu w swoich sercach. Tak Hiob czynił zawsze.
6 And the day is, that sons of God come to station themselves by YHWH, and there also comes Satan in their midst.
Zdarzyło się [pewnego] dnia, gdy synowie Boży przybyli, aby stanąć przed PANEM, że też szatan pojawił się wśród nich.
7 And YHWH says to Satan, “Where do you come from?” And Satan answers YHWH and says, “From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down on it.”
Wtedy PAN zapytał szatana: Skąd przychodzisz? Szatan odpowiedział PANU: Krążyłem po ziemi i przechadzałem się po niej.
8 And YHWH says to Satan, “Have you set your heart against My servant Job because there is none like him in the land, a man perfect and upright, fearing God, and turning aside from evil?”
PAN powiedział do szatana: Czy zwróciłeś uwagę na mojego sługę Hioba – że nie ma nikogo mu równego na ziemi? [To] człowiek doskonały i prawy, bojący się Boga i stroniący od zła.
9 And Satan answers YHWH and says, “Is Job fearing God for nothing?
A szatan odpowiedział PANU: Czy Hiob za darmo boi się Boga?
10 Have You not made a hedge for him, and for his house, and for all that he has—all around?
Czy nie ogrodziłeś zewsząd jego samego, jego domu i wszystkiego, co ma? Błogosławiłeś dziełom jego rąk, a jego dobytek rozmnożył się na ziemi.
11 You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance has spread in the land, and yet, put forth Your hand now, and strike against anything that he has—if not, he blesses You to Your face!”
Ale wyciągnij tylko swoją rękę i dotknij wszystkiego, co ma, a [na pewno] będzie ci w twarz złorzeczył.
12 And YHWH says to Satan, “Behold, all that he has [is] in your hand, only do not put forth your hand to him.” And Satan goes out from the presence of YHWH.
Wtedy PAN powiedział do szatana: Oto wszystko, co ma, [jest] w twojej mocy, tylko na niego nie wyciągaj ręki. I szatan odszedł sprzed oblicza PANA.
13 And the day is, that his sons and his daughters are eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn.
Zdarzyło się [któregoś] dnia, gdy jego synowie i córki jedli i pili wino w domu najstarszego brata;
14 And a messenger has come to Job and says, “The oxen have been plowing, and the female donkeys feeding by their sides,
Że do Hioba przybył posłaniec i powiedział: Woły orały, a oślice pasły się obok nich;
15 and Sheba falls, and takes them, and they have struck the young men by the mouth of the sword, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
I napadli Sabejczycy, i zabrali je, a sługi pozabijali ostrzem miecza. Uszedłem tylko ja sam, aby cię [o tym] powiadomić.
16 While this [one] is speaking another has also come and says, “Fire of God has fallen from the heavens, and burns among the flock, and among the young men, and consumes them, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
A gdy ten jeszcze mówił, przyszedł inny i powiedział: Ogień Boży spadł z nieba, spalił owce i sługi i pochłonął ich. Uszedłem tylko ja sam, aby cię [o tym] powiadomić.
17 While this [one] is speaking another also has come and says, “Chaldeans made three heads, and rush on the camels, and take them, and they have struck the young men by the mouth of the sword, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
A gdy ten jeszcze mówił, przyszedł inny i powiedział: Chaldejczycy podzieleni na trzy oddziały napadli na wielbłądy, zabrali je, a sługi pozabijali ostrzem miecza. Uszedłem tylko ja sam, aby cię [o tym] powiadomić.
18 While this [one] is speaking another has also come and says, “Your sons and your daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the firstborn.
A gdy ten jeszcze mówił, przyszedł inny i powiedział: Twoi synowie i córki jedli i pili wino w domu najstarszego brata;
19 And behold, a great wind has come from over the wilderness, and strikes against the four corners of the house, and it falls on the young men, and they are dead, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
A oto gwałtowny wiatr powiał od pustyni i uderzył w cztery węgły domu, tak że zawalił się na dzieci i pomarły. Uszedłem tylko ja sam, aby cię [o tym] powiadomić.
20 And Job rises, and tears his robe, and shaves his head, and falls to the earth, and pays respect,
Wtedy Hiob wstał, rozdarł swój płaszcz, ogolił swoją głowę, potem upadł na ziemię i oddał pokłon;
21 and he says, “I came forth naked from the womb of my mother, And naked I return there. YHWH has given and YHWH has taken; Let the Name of YHWH be blessed.”
I powiedział: Nagi wyszedłem z łona swojej matki i nagi tam powrócę. PAN dał, PAN też wziął, niech imię PANA będzie błogosławione.
22 In all this Job has not sinned, nor given folly to God.
W tym wszystkim Hiob nie zgrzeszył ani nie oskarżał Boga o nic niewłaściwego.
