Job 1
1 There has been a man in the land of Uz—his name Job—and that man has been perfect and upright—both fearing God, and turning aside from evil.
C'era nella terra di Uz un uomo chiamato Giobbe: uomo integro e retto, temeva Dio ed era alieno dal male.
2 And seven sons and three daughters are borne to him,
Gli erano nati sette figli e tre figlie;
3 and his substance is seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred pairs of oxen, and five hundred female donkeys, and a very abundant service; and that man is greater than any of the sons of the east.
possedeva settemila pecore e tremila cammelli, cinquecento paia di buoi e cinquecento asine, e molto numerosa era la sua servitù. Quest'uomo era il più grande fra tutti i figli d'oriente.
4 And his sons have gone and made a banquet—the house of each [in] his day—and have sent and called to their three sisters to eat and to drink with them;
Ora i suoi figli solevano andare a fare banchetti in casa di uno di loro, ciascuno nel suo giorno, e mandavano a invitare anche le loro tre sorelle per mangiare e bere insieme.
5 and it comes to pass, when they have gone around the days of the banquet, that Job sends and sanctifies them, and has risen early in the morning, and caused burnt-offerings to ascend—the number of them all—for Job said, “Perhaps my sons have sinned, yet blessed God in their heart.” Thus Job does all the days.
Quando avevano compiuto il turno dei giorni del banchetto, Giobbe li mandava a chiamare per purificarli; si alzava di buon mattino e offriva olocausti secondo il numero di tutti loro. Giobbe infatti pensava: «Forse i miei figli hanno peccato e hanno offeso Dio nel loro cuore». Così faceva Giobbe ogni volta.
6 And the day is, that sons of God come to station themselves by YHWH, and there also comes Satan in their midst.
Un giorno, i figli di Dio andarono a presentarsi davanti al Signore e anche satana andò in mezzo a loro.
7 And YHWH says to Satan, “Where do you come from?” And Satan answers YHWH and says, “From going to and fro in the land, and from walking up and down on it.”
Il Signore chiese a satana: «Da dove vieni?». Satana rispose al Signore: «Da un giro sulla terra, che ho percorsa».
8 And YHWH says to Satan, “Have you set your heart against My servant Job because there is none like him in the land, a man perfect and upright, fearing God, and turning aside from evil?”
Il Signore disse a satana: «Hai posto attenzione al mio servo Giobbe? Nessuno è come lui sulla terra: uomo integro e retto, teme Dio ed è alieno dal male».
9 And Satan answers YHWH and says, “Is Job fearing God for nothing?
Satana rispose al Signore e disse: «Forse che Giobbe teme Dio per nulla?
10 Have You not made a hedge for him, and for his house, and for all that he has—all around?
Non hai forse messo una siepe intorno a lui e alla sua casa e a tutto quanto è suo? Tu hai benedetto il lavoro delle sue mani e il suo bestiame abbonda di terra.
11 You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance has spread in the land, and yet, put forth Your hand now, and strike against anything that he has—if not, he blesses You to Your face!”
Ma stendi un poco la mano e tocca quanto ha e vedrai come ti benedirà in faccia!».
12 And YHWH says to Satan, “Behold, all that he has [is] in your hand, only do not put forth your hand to him.” And Satan goes out from the presence of YHWH.
Il Signore disse a satana: «Ecco, quanto possiede è in tuo potere, ma non stender la mano su di lui». Satana si allontanò dal Signore.
13 And the day is, that his sons and his daughters are eating and drinking wine in the house of their brother, the firstborn.
Ora accadde che un giorno, mentre i suoi figli e le sue figlie stavano mangiando e bevendo in casa del fratello maggiore,
14 And a messenger has come to Job and says, “The oxen have been plowing, and the female donkeys feeding by their sides,
un messaggero venne da Giobbe e gli disse: «I buoi stavano arando e le asine pascolando vicino ad essi,
15 and Sheba falls, and takes them, and they have struck the young men by the mouth of the sword, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
quando i Sabei sono piombati su di essi e li hanno predati e hanno passato a fil di spada i guardiani. Sono scampato io solo che ti racconto questo».
16 While this [one] is speaking another has also come and says, “Fire of God has fallen from the heavens, and burns among the flock, and among the young men, and consumes them, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
Mentr'egli ancora parlava, entrò un altro e disse: «Un fuoco divino è caduto dal cielo: si è attaccato alle pecore e ai guardiani e li ha divorati. Sono scampato io solo che ti racconto questo».
17 While this [one] is speaking another also has come and says, “Chaldeans made three heads, and rush on the camels, and take them, and they have struck the young men by the mouth of the sword, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
Mentr'egli ancora parlava, entrò un altro e disse: «I Caldei hanno formato tre bande: si sono gettati sopra i cammelli e li hanno presi e hanno passato a fil di spada i guardiani. Sono scampato io solo che ti racconto questo».
18 While this [one] is speaking another has also come and says, “Your sons and your daughters are eating, and drinking wine, in the house of their brother, the firstborn.
Mentr'egli ancora parlava, entrò un altro e disse: «I tuoi figli e le tue figlie stavano mangiando e bevendo in casa del loro fratello maggiore,
19 And behold, a great wind has come from over the wilderness, and strikes against the four corners of the house, and it falls on the young men, and they are dead, and I have escaped—only I alone—to declare [it] to you.”
quand'ecco un vento impetuoso si è scatenato da oltre il deserto: ha investito i quattro lati della casa, che è rovinata sui giovani e sono morti. Sono scampato io solo che ti racconto questo».
20 And Job rises, and tears his robe, and shaves his head, and falls to the earth, and pays respect,
Allora Giobbe si alzò e si stracciò le vesti, si rase il capo, cadde a terra, si prostrò
21 and he says, “I came forth naked from the womb of my mother, And naked I return there. YHWH has given and YHWH has taken; Let the Name of YHWH be blessed.”
«Nudo uscii dal seno di mia madre, e nudo vi ritornerò. Il Signore ha dato, il Signore ha tolto, sia benedetto il nome del Signore!». e disse:
22 In all this Job has not sinned, nor given folly to God.
In tutto questo Giobbe non peccò e non attribuì a Dio nulla di ingiusto.
