Jeremiah 9
1 Who makes my head waters, And my eye a fountain of tears? And I weep by day and by night, For the wounded of the daughter of my people.
¡Oh, que mi cabeza fuera agua y mis ojos fuentes de lágrimas para llorar de día y de noche por los asesinados de la hija de mi pueblo!
2 Who gives me in a wilderness A lodging-place for travelers? And I leave my people, and go from them, For all of them [are] adulterers, An assembly of treacherous ones.
¡Quién me diera una posada de caminantes en el desierto para abandonar a mi pueblo y apartarme de ellos! Porque todos ellos son adúlteros, congregación de traidores.
3 “And they bend their tongue, Their bow [is] a lie, And they have not been mighty for steadfastness in the land, For they have gone forth from evil to evil, And they have not known Me,” A declaration of YHWH!
Disponen su lengua como arco. Lanzan mentiras y no se fortalecieron para la verdad en la tierra. Porque proceden de mal en mal y no me conocen, dice Yavé.
4 “You each beware of his friend, And do not trust any brother, For every brother utterly supplants, For every friend slanderously walks,
¡Cuídese cada uno de su prójimo! No tenga confianza en algún hermano, porque todo hermano suplanta, y todo prójimo anda con calumnias.
5 And they each mock at his friend, And they do not speak truth, They taught their tongue to speak falsehood, They have labored to commit iniquity.
Cada uno engaña a su prójimo y no habla verdad. Adiestraron su lengua para la mentira, y se pervierten hasta el cansancio.
6 Your dwelling [is] in the midst of deceit, Through deceit they refused to know Me,” A declaration of YHWH.
Su morada está en medio del engaño, y rehúsan conocerme a causa del engaño, dice Yavé.
7 Therefore, thus said YHWH of Hosts: “Behold, I am refining them, and have tried them, For how do I deal with the daughter of My people?
Por tanto, Jerusalén es una pila de escombros y una guarida de chacales, y las ciudades de Judá, una desolación sin habitante. Yavé de las huestes dice: Ciertamente Yo los fundiré y los probaré. ¿De cuál otra manera procedo con la hija de mi pueblo?
8 Their tongue [is] a slaughtering arrow, It has spoken deceit in its mouth, It speaks peace with its neighbor, And in its heart it lays its ambush,
Su lengua es flecha mortal que habla engaño. Con su boca hablan de paz con su prójimo, pero dentro de él ponen emboscada.
9 Do I not see after them for these things?” A declaration of YHWH, “Does My soul not avenge itself against a nation such as this?”
¿No debo castigar estas cosas? dice Yavé. De una nación como ésta, ¿no se vengará mi alma?
10 I lift up weeping and wailing for the mountains, And a lamentation for the habitations of the wilderness, For they have been burned up without any passing over, Nor have they heard the voice of livestock, From the bird of the heavens and to the beast—they have fled, They have gone.
Por las montañas levantaré mi lamento y mi llanto por los pastizales del desierto porque están desolados. No hay quien pase, ni se oye el bramido del ganado. Desde las aves del cielo hasta las bestias huyeron. Todos se fueron.
11 “And I make Jerusalem become heaps, A habitation of dragons, And I make the cities of Judah a desolation, Without inhabitant.”
Convertiré a Jerusalén en una pila de escombros y una guarida de chacales, y a las ciudades de Judá en una desolación sin habitante.
12 Who [is] the wise man? And he understands this, And he to whom the mouth of YHWH spoke? And he declares it, For why has the land perished? It has been burned up as a wilderness, Without any passing through.
¿Quién es un hombre sabio que entienda esto? ¿Y a quién habló la boca de Yavé para que lo declare? ¿Por qué pereció la tierra? Fue asolada como un desierto, y no hay quien pase por ella.
13 And YHWH says: “Because of their forsaking My law that I set before them, And they have not listened to My voice nor walked in it,
Yavé dijo: Porque abandonaron la Ley que puse delante de ellos. No escucharon mi voz, ni andan según ella,
14 And they walk after the stubbornness of their heart, And after the Ba‘alim, That their fathers taught them,”
sino andan tras la dureza de su corazón y tras los baales, lo cual les enseñaron sus antepasados.
15 Therefore, thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel: “Behold, I am causing them—this people—to eat wormwood, And I have caused them to drink water of gall,
Por tanto, Yavé de las huestes, ʼElohim de Israel, dice: Ciertamente Yo daré a comer ajenjo a este pueblo y les daré a beber agua con hiel.
16 And I have scattered them among nations Which they did not know, they and their fathers, And have sent the sword after them, Until I have consumed them.”
Los dispersaré entre naciones que ellos no conocieron ni sus antepasados. Enviaré la espada tras ellos hasta exterminarlos.
17 Thus said YHWH of Hosts: “Consider, and call for mourning women, And they come, And send to the wise women, And they come,
Yavé de las huestes dice: Atiendan y llamen a las plañideras para que vengan. Envíen a llamar a las que son expertas para que vengan.
18 And they hurry, and lift up a wailing for us. And tears run down our eyes, And waters flow from our eyelids.
Que se apresuren y prorrumpan en lamento por nosotros para que nuestros ojos se deshagan en lágrimas y nuestros párpados destilen agua.
19 For a voice of wailing is heard from Zion: How we have been spoiled! We have been greatly ashamed, Because we have forsaken the land, Because they have cast down our dwelling places.”
Porque en Sion fue oída una voz de lamento: ¡Cómo somos arruinados! Somos sometidos a gran vergüenza porque abandonamos la tierra, pues nuestras residencias fueron destruidas.
20 But hear, you women, a word of YHWH, And your ear receives a word of His mouth, And teach your daughters wailing, And each her neighbor lamentation.
¡Escuchen, oh mujeres, la Palabra de Yavé! ¡Reciba su oído la Palabra de su boca! Enseñen lamentaciones a sus hijas, cantos fúnebres, cada una a su vecina.
21 For death has come up into our windows, It has come into our palaces, To cut off the suckling from outside, Young men from the broad places.
Porque la muerte subió por nuestras ventanas. Entró en nuestros palacios. Arrebató a los niños en la calle y a los jóvenes en las plazas.
22 Speak thus, “A declaration of YHWH, And the carcass of man has fallen, As dung on the face of the field, And as a handful after the reaper, And there is none gathering.”
Dí: Yavé dice: Los cadáveres caerán como abono sobre la superficie del campo, como manojo detrás del que cosecha, pero nadie los recogerá.
23 Thus said YHWH: “Do not let the wise boast himself in his wisdom, Nor let the mighty boast himself in his might, Do not let the rich boast himself in his riches,
Yavé dice: No se alabe el sabio en su sabiduría, ni el valiente en su valentía, ni el rico en sus riquezas.
24 But let the boaster boast himself in this, In understanding and knowing Me, For I [am] YHWH, doing kindness, Judgment, and righteousness, in the earth, For I have delighted in these,” A declaration of YHWH.
Sino alábese en esto el que se alabe: En entenderme y conocerme, que Yo soy Yavé, Quien practica misericordia, juicio y justicia en la tierra, porque quiero estas cosas, dice Yavé.
25 “Behold, days are coming,” A declaration of YHWH, “And I have laid a charge on all circumcised in the foreskin,
En verdad, vienen días, dice Yavé, cuando castigaré a todo circuncidado y a todo incircunciso:
26 On Egypt, and on Judah, and on Edom, And on the sons of Ammon, and on Moab, And on all cutting the corner [of the beard], Who are dwelling in the wilderness, For all the nations [are] uncircumcised, And all the house of Israel [are] uncircumcised in heart!”
A Egipto, a Judá y a Edom, a los hijos de Amón y a Moab, a todos los que se rapan las sienes y a los habitantes del desierto. Porque todas las naciones son incircuncisas, y toda la Casa de Israel es incircuncisa de corazón.
