Jeremiah 6
1 “Strengthen yourselves, sons of Benjamin, From the midst of Jerusalem, And blow a horn in Tekoa, And lift up a flame over Beth-Haccerem, For evil has been seen from the north, And great destruction.
Mettetevi in salvo, figli di Beniamino, fuori di Gerusalemme. In Tekòa date fiato alle trombe; innalzate segnali su Bet-Chèrem, perchè dal settentrione si affaccia una sventura e una grande rovina.
2 I have cut off the lovely and delicate one, The daughter of Zion.
E' forse simile a un tenero prato la figlia di Sion?
3 Shepherds and their droves come to her, They have struck tents by her all around, They have each fed [in] his own station.”
Verso di essa muovono i pastori con i loro greggi; le fissano le tende tutto intorno, ognuno di loro pascola la sua parte.
4 “Sanctify the battle against her, Rise, and we go up at noon. Woe to us, for the day has turned, For the shades of evening are stretched out,
«Ingaggiate la santa battaglia contro di essa; su, assaliamola in pieno giorno. Noi sventurati! Già il giorno declina, già si allungano le ombre della sera.
5 Rise, and we go up by night, And we destroy her palaces.”
Su, allora, assaliamola di notte, distruggiamo i suoi palazzi».
6 For thus said YHWH of Hosts: “Cut down her wood, And pour out a mound against Jerusalem, She [is] the city to be inspected, She [is] full of oppression in her midst.
Perchè così dice il Signore degli eserciti: «Tagliate i suoi alberi, costruite un terrapieno davanti a Gerusalemme. Essa è la città della menzogna, in essa tutto è oppressione.
7 As the digging of a well, is [for] its waters, So she has dug [for] her wickedness, Violence and spoil is heard in her, Sickness and striking [are] continually before My face.
Come una sorgente fa scorrere l'acqua, così essa fa scorrere la sua iniquità. Violenza e oppressione risuonano in essa, dinanzi a me stanno sempre dolori e piaghe.
8 Be instructed, O Jerusalem, Lest My soul be alienated from you, Lest I make you a desolation, A land [that is] not inhabited.”
Lasciati correggere, o Gerusalemme, perchè io non mi allontani da te e non ti riduca a un deserto, a una regione disabitata».
9 Thus said YHWH of Hosts: “They surely glean, as a vine, the remnant of Israel, Put your hand back, as a gatherer to the baskets.”
Così dice il Signore degli eserciti: «Racimolate, racimolate come una vigna il resto di Israele; stendi ancora la tua mano come un vendemmiatore verso i tuoi tralci».
10 To whom do I speak, and testify, and they hear? Behold, their ear [is] uncircumcised, And they are not able to attend. Behold, a word of YHWH has been to them for a reproach, They do not delight in it.
A chi parlerò e chi scongiurerò perchè mi ascoltino? Ecco, il loro orecchio non è circonciso, sono incapaci di prestare attenzione. Ecco, la parola del Signore è per loro oggetto di scherno; non la gustano.
11 And I have been filled with the fury of YHWH (I have been weary of containing), “To pour [it] on the suckling in the street, And on the assembly of youths together, For even husband with wife are captured, [The] elderly with one full of days,
Io perciò sono pieno dell'ira del Signore, non posso più contenerla. «Riversala sui bambini nella strada, e anche sull'adunanza dei giovani, perchè saranno presi insieme uomini e donne, l'anziano e il decrepito.
12 And their houses have been turned to others, Fields and wives together, For I stretch out My hand against the inhabitants of the land,” A declaration of YHWH.
Le loro case passeranno a stranieri, anche i loro campi e le donne, perchè io stenderò la mano sugli abitanti di questo paese». Oracolo del Signore.
13 “For from their least to their greatest, Everyone is gaining dishonest gain, And from prophet even to priest, Everyone is dealing falsely,
Perchè dal piccolo al grande tutti commettono frode; dal profeta al sacerdote tutti praticano la menzogna.
14 And they heal the breach of the daughter of My people slightly, Saying, Peace, peace! And there is no peace.
Essi curano la ferita del mio popolo, ma solo alla leggera, dicendo: «Bene, bene!» ma bene non va.
15 They were ashamed when they did abomination! Indeed, they are not at all ashamed, Indeed, they have not known blushing, Therefore they fall among those falling, In the time I have inspected them, They stumble,” said YHWH.
Dovrebbero vergognarsi dei loro atti abominevoli, ma non si vergognano affatto, non sanno neppure arrossire. «er questo cadranno con le altre vittime, nell'ora del castigo saranno prostrati», dice il Signore.
16 Thus said YHWH: “Stand by the ways and see, and ask for paths of old, Where [is] this—the good way? And go in it, And find rest for yourselves. And they say, We do not go.
Così il Signore: «Fermatevi nelle strade e guardate, informatevi circa i sentieri del passato, dove sta la strada buona e prendetela, così troverete pace per le anime vostre». Ma essi risposero: «Non la prenderemo!».
17 And I have raised up watchmen for you, Attend to the voice of the horn. And they say, We do not attend.
Io ho posto sentinelle presso di voi: «Fate attenzione allo squillo di tromba». Essi hanno risposto: «Non ci baderemo!».
18 Therefore hear, O nations, and know, O congregation, That which [is] on them.
Per questo ascoltate, o popoli, e sappi, o assemblea, ciò che avverrà di loro.
19 Hear, O earth, behold, I am bringing evil on this people, The fruit of their plans, For they gave no attention to My words, And My law—they kick against it.
Ascolta, o terra! «Ecco, io mando contro questo popolo la sventura, il frutto dei loro pensieri, perchè non hanno prestato attenzione alle mie parole e hanno rigettato la mia legge.
20 Why [is] this to Me? Frankincense comes from Sheba, And the sweet cane from a far-off land, Your burnt-offerings [are] not for acceptance, And your sacrifices have not been sweet to Me.”
Perchè mi offrite incenso portato da Saba e la preziosa cannella che giunge da un paese lontano? I vostri olocausti non mi sono graditi e non mi piacciono i vostri sacrifici».
21 Therefore, thus said YHWH: “Behold, I give stumbling blocks to this people, And fathers and sons have stumbled against them together, The neighbor and his friend perish.”
Perciò, dice il Signore: «Ecco, io porrò per questo popolo pietre di inciampo, in esse inciamperanno insieme padri e figli; vicini e amici periranno».
22 Thus said YHWH: “Behold, a people has come from a north country, And a great nation is stirred up from the sides of the earth.
Così dice il Signore: «Ecco un popolo viene da un paese del settentrione, una grande nazione si muove dall'etremità della terra.
23 They take hold of bow and javelin, It [is] fierce, and they have no mercy, Their voice sounds as a sea, And they ride on horses, Set in array as a man of war, Against you, O daughter of Zion.”
Impugnano archi e lance; sono crudeli, senza pietà. Il loro clamore è come quello di un mare agitato; essi montano cavalli: sono pronti come un solo guerriero alla battaglia contro di te, figlia di Sion».
24 We have heard its sound, our hands have been feeble, Distress has seized us, pain as of a travailing woman.
«Abbiamo udito la loro fama, ci sono cadute le braccia; l'angoscia si è impadronita di noi, come spasimo di partoriente».
25 Do not go forth to the field, And do not walk in the way, For the enemy has a sword, Fear [is] all around.
Non uscite nei campi e non camminate per le strade, perchè la spada nemica e il terrore sono tutt'intorno.
26 O daughter of my people, Gird on sackcloth, And roll yourself in ashes, Make mourning [as for] an only one, A most bitter lamentation, For the spoiler suddenly comes against us.
Figlia del mio popolo, vèstiti di sacco e ròtolati nella polvere. Fa' lutto come per un figlio unico, lamèntati amaramente, perchè piomberà improvviso il distruttore su di noi!
27 “I have given you a watchtower, A fortress among My people, And you know, and have tried their way.
Io ti ho posto come saggiatore fra il mio popolo, perché tu conoscessi e saggiassi la loro condotta.
28 All of them are turned aside by apostates, Walking slanderously—bronze and iron, All of them are corrupters.
Essi sono tutti ribelli, spargono calunnie, tutti sono corrotti.
29 The bellows have been burned, The lead has been consumed by fire, A refiner has refined in vain, And the wicked have not been drawn away.
Il mantice soffia con forza, il piombo è consumato dal fuoco; invano si vuol raffinarlo a ogni costo, le scorie non si separano.
30 They have called them rejected silver, For YHWH has kicked against them!”
Scoria di argento si chiamano, perché il Signore li ha rigettati.
