Jeremiah 5

1 “Go to and fro in streets of Jerusalem, And see now and know, And seek in her broad places, If you find a man, If there is one doing judgment, Seeking steadfastness—Then I am propitious to her.

১“তোমরা যিরূশালেমের রাস্তাগুলিতে দৌড়াদৌড়ি কর, দেখ ও তাদের সম্মন্ধে জানো। সেখানকার শহরের চকগুলিতে গিয়ে খোঁজ নাও। যদি এমন কাউকে পাও যে ন্যায় আচরণ করে এবং সৎভাবে চলে তাহলে আমি এই শহরকে ক্ষমা করব।

2 And if they say, YHWH lives, Surely they swear to a falsehood.”

২এমনকি যদিও তারা বলছে, ‘জীবন্ত সদাপ্রভুর দিব্যি,’ তবুও তারা মিথ্যা শপথ করে।”

3 YHWH, Your eyes, are they not on steadfastness? You have struck them, and they have not grieved, You have consumed them, They have refused to receive instruction, They made their faces harder than a rock, They have refused to turn back.

৩হে সদাপ্রভু, তোমার চোখ কি ন্যায় দেখতে পায় না? তুমি তাদের আঘাত কর, কিন্তু তারা ব্যথা অনুভব করে না। তুমি তাদের সম্পূর্ণ পরাজিত করেছ, কিন্তু তারা বাধ্যতা অস্বীকার করেছে। তাদের মুখ তারা পাথরের থেকেও শক্ত করেছে, কারণ তারা অনুতাপ করতে অস্বীকার করেছে।

4 And I said, “Surely these [are] poor, They have been foolish, For they have not known the way of YHWH, The judgment of their God.

৪তাই আমি বলেছিলাম, “তারাই একমাত্র গরিব লোক। তারা বোকা, কারণ তারা সদাপ্রভুর পথ জানে না, তাদের ঈশ্বরের নিয়মও জানে না।

5 I go to the great, and I speak with them, For they have known the way of YHWH, The judgment of their God.” Surely they have broken the yoke together, They have drawn away the bands.

৫আমি মহান লোকদের কাছে যাব এবং তাদের কাছে ঈশ্বরের বার্তা ঘোষণা করব, তারা অন্তত সদাপ্রভুর পথ ও তাদের ঈশ্বরের নিয়ম জানে।” কিন্তু তারা সবাই একসঙ্গে তাদের জোয়াল ভেঙে ফেলেছে এবং তাদের সাথে ঈশ্বরের বাঁধন ছিঁড়ে ফেলেছে।

6 Therefore a lion out of the forest has struck them, A wolf of the deserts spoils them, A leopard is watching over their cities, Everyone who is going out of them is torn, For their transgressions have been many, Their backslidings have been mighty.

৬তাই ঝোপ থেকে একটি সিংহ এসে তাদের আক্রমণ করবে। আরব থেকে একটি নেকড়ে বাঘ তাদের ধ্বংস করবে। একটি লুকানো চিতাবাঘ তাদের শহরগুলির বিরুদ্ধে আসবে। যদি কেউ সেই শহর থেকে বের হয় সে ছিন্নভিন্ন হবে যাবে। কারণ তাদের অপরাধ বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। তাদের অবিশ্বস্ততার ঘটনা অনেক।

7 “I am not propitious to you for this, Your sons have forsaken Me, And are satisfied by [those who are] not gods, I satisfy them, and they commit adultery, And at the house of a harlot They gather themselves together.

৭কেন আমি এই লোকদের ক্ষমা করব? তোমার ছেলেরা আমাকে ত্যাগ করেছে এবং যারা ঈশ্বর নয় তাদের কাছে শপথ করেছে। আমি তাদের সম্পূর্ণভাবে প্রতিপালন করেছি, কিন্তু তারা ব্যভিচার করেছে এবং একটি বেশ্যাবৃত্তির বাড়ির চিহ্ন ধারণ করেছে।

8 Fed horses—they have been early risers, They each neigh to the wife of his neighbor.

৮তারা উত্তপ্ত ঘোড়া। তারা কামুক ঘোড়ার মত একে অন্যের স্ত্রীর সঙ্গে মিলিত হবার জন্য ঘুরে বেড়ায়।

9 Do I not lay a charge for these?” A declaration of YHWH, “And on a nation such as this, Does My soul not avenge itself?

৯এর জন্য কি আমি তাদের শাস্তি দেব না? এটি সদাপ্রভুর ঘোষণা। আমার অন্তর কি এই রকম একটি জাতির উপর প্রতিশোধ নেবে না?

10 Go up on her walls, and destroy, And I do not make a completion, Turn her branches aside, For they [are] not YHWH’s,

১০তোমরা যিরূশালেমের আঙ্গুর ক্ষেতের কাছে যাও এবং ধ্বংস কর। কিন্তু তাদের সম্পূর্ণভাবে নষ্ট কোরো না। তাদের আঙ্গুরগুলি ছেঁটে ফেল, কারণ এই আঙ্গুর সদাপ্রভুর থেকে আসেনি।

11 For the house of Israel has dealt treacherously against Me, And the house of Judah,” A declaration of YHWH.

১১ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদার লোকেরা আমার সাথে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করেছে, এটি সদাপ্রভুর ঘোষণা।

12 They have lied against YHWH, And they say, “[It is] not He, Nor does evil come in against us, Indeed, we do not see sword and famine.

১২তারা আমাকে অস্বীকার করেছে। তারা বলেছে, “তিনি সত্য নন। মন্দ আমাদের উপর আসবে না, আমরা কখনও যুদ্ধ বা দূর্ভিক্ষ দেখব না।

13 And the prophets become wind, And the word is not in them, Thus it is done to them.”

১৩ভাববাদীরা অপদার্থ বাতাসের মত হবে এবং তাদের মধ্যে আমাদের জন্য ঘোষণা করা সদাপ্রভুর বাক্য নেই। তাদের হুমকি তাদের উপর আসবে।”

14 Therefore, thus said YHWH, God of Hosts: “Because of your speaking this word, Behold, I am making My words become fire in your mouth, And this people wood, And it has devoured them.

১৪তাই সদাপ্রভু, বাহিনীগনের ঈশ্বর এই কথা বলেন, “কারণ তোমরা এই কথা বলেছ, দেখ, আমি তোমার মুখে আমার বাক্যগুলি আগুনের মত এবং এই লোকেদের কাঠের মত করব! তারা এদের গিলে ফেলবে।”

15 Behold, I am bringing against you a nation from afar, O house of Israel,” A declaration of YHWH, “It [is] a strong nation, It [is] an ancient nation, A nation whose tongue you do not know, Nor understand what it speaks.

১৫সদাপ্রভু বলেন, “হে ইস্রায়েল কুল, দেখ! আমি তোমাদের বিরুদ্ধে অনেক দূর থেকে একটি জাতিকে আনব। এটি একটি মজবুত জাতি, একটি পুরানো জাতি! তুমি সেই জাতির ভাষা জান না, তারা কি বলে তা তোমরা বুঝবে না।

16 Its quiver [is] as an open tomb, All of them—mighty ones.

১৬তাদের তির রাখার জায়গা খোলা কবরের মত। তারা সবাই যোদ্ধা।

17 And it has consumed your harvest and your bread, They consume your sons, and your daughters, It consumes your flock, and your herd, It consumes your vine and your fig tree, It makes your fortified cities poor, In which you are trusting—by the sword.

১৭তারা তোমাদের ফসল, তোমাদের ছেলে মেয়েদের ও খাবার গিলে ফেলবে। তারা তোমাদের গরু ও ভেড়ার পাল খেয়ে ফেলবে; তারা তোমাদের সব আঙ্গুর ফল ও ডুমুর গাছ খেয়ে ফেলবে। তুমি যে সব সুরক্ষিত শহরে বিশ্বাস করেছ, সেগুলো তারা তরোয়াল দিয়ে ধ্বংস করবে।”

18 And even in those days,” A declaration of YHWH, “I do not make you a completion.

১৮কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু বলছেন, “সেই দিন গুলিতেও আমি সম্পূর্ণভাবে তোমাদেরকে ধ্বংস করব না।

19 And it has come to pass, when you say, Why has our God YHWH done all these [things] to us? That you have said to them, As you have forsaken Me, And serve the gods of a foreigner in your land, So you serve strangers in a land [that is] not yours.

১৯এটা ঘটবে যখন তোমাদের লোকেরা, ইস্রায়েল ও যিহূদা, বলবে, ‘আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভু আমাদের প্রতি এই সব কেন করলেন?’ তখন তুমি, যিরমিয়, তাদের বলবে, ‘যেমন তোমরা আমাকে ত্যাগ করেছ এবং তোমাদের দেশে বিদেশী দেবতার সেবা করেছ, তেমনি যে দেশ তোমাদের নিজেদের নয় সেই দেশে তোমরা বিদেশীদের সেবা করবে’।”

20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, And sound it in Judah, saying,

২০যাকোবের বংশকে এই কথা জানাও এবং যিহূদার কাছে এই কথা ঘোষণা কর। বল,

21 Now hear this, O people, foolish and without heart, They have eyes, and they do not see, They have ears, and they do not hear.

২১“বোকা লোকেরা! এটা শোনো। মূর্তিদের কোন ইচ্ছাশক্তি নেই; তাদের চোখ আছে, কিন্তু দেখতে পায় না। তাদের কান আছে, কিন্তু তারা শুনতে পায় না।

22 Do you not fear Me?” A declaration of YHWH; “Are you not pained from My presence? Who has made sand the border of the sea, A perpetual limit, and it does not pass over it, They shake themselves, and they are not able, Indeed, its billows have sounded, and they do not pass over.

২২সদাপ্রভু বলেন, তোমরা কি আমাকে ভয় করবে না? আমার সামনে কি তোমরা কাঁপবে না? আমি সমুদ্রের বিরুদ্ধে বালি দিয়ে একটি সীমানা ঠিক করেছি, একটি চিরস্থায়ী আদেশ যা সমুদ্র কখনো অমান্য করে না, এমনকি সমুদ্রের ঢেউগুলি ওঠা নামা করে, তবুও তারা তা অমান্য করে না। যদিও তার ঢেউগুলি গর্জন করে, তবু তারা তা অতিক্রম করে না।

23 And this people has an apostatizing and rebelling heart, They have turned aside, and they go on.

২৩কিন্তু এই লোকদের অবাধ্য হৃদয় আছে। তারা বিদ্রোহ করে বিপথে চলে গেছে।

24 And they have not said in their heart, Now let us fear our God YHWH, who is giving rain, The autumn rain and the spring rain, in its season, He keeps the appointed weeks of harvest for us.

২৪তারা মনে মনেও বলে না, ‘এস, আমাদের ঈশ্বর সদাপ্রভুকে আমরা ভয় করি, যিনি নির্দিষ্ট দিনের প্রথম ও শেষ বৃষ্টি দেন, আমাদের জন্য ফসল কাটবার নির্দিষ্ট সপ্তাহ রক্ষা করেন।’

25 Your iniquities have turned these away, And your sins have kept the good from you.

২৫তোমাদের অন্যায় এই সব দূরে রেখেছে। তোমাদের পাপ তোমাদের মঙ্গল হতে বাধা দেয়।

26 For the wicked have been found among My people. He watches like one who sets snares, They have set up a trap—they capture men.

২৬কারণ আমার লোকেদের মধ্যে মন্দ লোক খুঁজে পাওয়া যায়। তারা পাখী শিকারীদের মত দেখে; তারা ফাঁদ পাতে এবং মানুষ ধরে।

27 As a cage full of birds, So their houses are full of deceit, Therefore they have been great, and are rich.

২৭পাখীতে ভরা খাঁচার মত, তাদের বাড়ীও ছলনায় ভরা। তারা উন্নত ও ধনী হয়েছে।

28 They have been fat, they have shone, Indeed, they have surpassed the acts of the evil, They have not judged judgment, The judgment of the fatherless—and they prosper, And they have not judged the judgment of the needy.

২৮তারা মোটা হয়েছে; তারা চকচকে হয়েছে। তারা মন্দ কাজের সীমানা পেরিয়ে গেছে। অনাথেরা যাতে ন্যায়বিচার পায় সেইজন্য তারা তাদের পক্ষে দাঁড়ায় না এবং তারা গরিবদের ন্যায়বিচার করে না।

29 Do I not inspect for these,” A declaration of YHWH, “On a nation such as this, Does My soul not avenge itself?

২৯সদাপ্রভু বলেন, ‘আমি কি এর জন্য তাদের শাস্তি দেব না? আমি কি এই রকম জাতির উপর প্রতিশোধ নেব না?’

30 An astonishing and horrible thing has been in the land:

৩০দেশের মধ্যে ভয়ঙ্কর ও নিষ্ঠুর ঘটনা ঘটেছে।

31 The prophets have prophesied falsely, And the priests bear rule by their means, And My people have loved [it] so, And what do they do at its latter end?”

৩১ভাববাদীরা মিথ্যা ভাববাণী করে এবং যাজকেরা নিজের ক্ষমতায় শাসন করে। আমার প্রজারা এই পথই ভালবাসে, কিন্তু শেষে কি ঘটবে?”
