Jeremiah 40
1 The word that has been to Jeremiah from YHWH, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, has sent him from Ramah, in his taking him—and he a prisoner in chains—in the midst of all the expulsion of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.
La parole qui fut [adressée] par l'Eternel à Jérémie, quand Nébuzar-adan prévôt de l'hôtel l'eut renvoyé de Rama, après l'avoir pris lorsqu'il était lié de chaînes parmi tous ceux qu'on transportait de Jérusalem et de Juda, [et] qu'on menait captifs à Babylone.
2 And the chief of the executioners takes Jeremiah and says to him, “Your God YHWH has spoken this calamity concerning this place,
Quand donc le prévôt de l'hôtel eut retiré Jérémie, il lui dit: l'Eternel ton Dieu a prononcé ce mal sur ce lieu-ci.
3 and YHWH brings [it] in, and does as He spoke, because you have sinned against YHWH, and have not listened to His voice, even this thing has been to you.
Et l'Eternel l'a fait venir, et a fait ainsi qu'il avait dit; parce que vous avez péché contre l'Eternel, et que vous n'avez point écouté sa voix, à cause de cela ceci vous est arrivé.
4 And now, behold, I have loosed you today from the chains that [are] on your hand; if [it is] good in your eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep my eye on you: and if [it is] evil in your eyes to come with me to Babylon, refrain; see, all the land [is] before you, to where [it is] good, and to where [it is] right in your eyes to go—go.”
Maintenant donc voici, aujourd'hui je t'ai délié des chaînes que tu avais aux mains, s'il te plaît de venir avec moi à Babylone, viens et je prendrai soin de toi; mais s'il ne te plaît pas de venir avec moi à Babylone, demeure; regarde, toute la terre [est] à ta disposition; va où il te semblera bon et convenable d'aller.
5 And while he does not reply—“Or turn back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or wherever it is right in your eyes to go—go.” And the chief of the executioners gives a ration and gift to him, and sends him away,
Or [Guédalia] ne retournera plus [ici]; retourne-t'en donc vers Guédalia fils d'Ahikam, fils de Saphan, que le Roi de Babylone a commis sur les villes de Juda; et demeure avec lui parmi le peuple, ou va partout où il te plaira d'aller; et le prévôt de l'hôtel lui donna des vivres et quelques présents, et le renvoya.
6 and Jeremiah comes to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwells with him in the midst of the people who are left in the land.
Jérémie donc alla vers Guédalia fils d'Ahikam à Mitspa, et demeura avec lui parmi le peuple qui était resté dans le pays.
7 And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon has appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he has charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;
Et tous les Capitaines des gens de guerre qui étaient à la campagne, eux et leurs gens entendirent que le Roi de Babylone avait commis Guédalia fils d'Ahikam sur le pays, et qu'il lui avait commis les hommes, et les femmes, et les enfants, et cela d'entre les plus pauvres du pays, [savoir] de ceux qui n'avaient pas été transportés à Babylone.
8 and they come to Gedaliah at Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan [the] sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.
Alors ils allèrent vers Guédalia à Mitspa; savoir, Ismaël fils de Néthania, et Johanan et Jonathan enfants de Karéah, et Séraja fils de Tanhumet, et les enfants de Héphai Nétophathite, et Jézania fils d'un Mahacathite, eux et leurs gens.
9 And Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, swears to them and to their men, saying, “Do not be afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;
Et Guédalia fils d'Ahikam, fils de Saphan, leur jura, à eux et à leurs gens, en disant: ne faites pas difficulté d'être assujettis aux Caldéens, demeurez dans le pays, et soyez sujets du Roi de Babylone, et vous vous en trouverez bien.
10 and I, behold, I am dwelling in Mizpah to stand before the Chaldeans who have come to us, and you, gather wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put [them] in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.”
Et pour moi, voici, je demeurerai à Mitspa pour me tenir prêt à recevoir les ordres des Caldéens qui viendront vers nous; mais vous, recueillez le vin, les fruits d'Eté, et l'huile, et mettez-les dans vos vaisseaux, et demeurez dans vos villes que vous avez prises [pour votre demeure].
11 And also all the Jews who [are] in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who [are] in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon has given a remnant to Judah, and that he has appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,
Pareillement aussi tous les Juifs qui [étaient] en Moab, et parmi les enfants de Hammon, et dans l'Idumée, et dans tous ces pays-là, quand ils eurent entendu que le Roi de Babylone avait laissé quelque reste à Juda, et qu'il avait commis sur eux Guédalia fils d'Ahikam, fils de Saphan;
12 and all the Jews from all the places to where they have been driven, return and enter the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit—to multiply abundantly.
Tous ces Juifs-là retournèrent de tous les lieux auxquels ils avaient été chassés, et vinrent au pays de Juda, vers Guédalia à Mitspa, et recueillirent du vin, et des fruits d'Eté en grande abondance.
13 And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field, have come to Gedaliah at Mizpah,
Mais Johanan fils de Karéah, et tous les Capitaines des gens de guerre qui [étaient] à la campagne vinrent vers Guédalia à Mitspa;
14 and they say to him, “Do you really know that Ba‘alis king of the sons of Ammon has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to strike your soul?” And Gedaliah son of Ahikam has not given credence to them.
Et lui dirent: ne sais-tu pas certainement que Bahalis, Roi des enfants de Hammon, a envoyé Ismaël le fils de Néthania pour t'ôter la vie? mais Guédalia fils d'Ahikam ne les crut point.
15 And Johanan son of Kareah has spoken to Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, “Please let me go, and I strike Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one knows; why does he strike your soul? And all Judah who are gathered to you have been scattered, and the remnant of Judah has perished.”
Et Johanan fils de Karéah parla en secret à Guédalia à Mitspa, en disant: je m'en irai maintenant, et je frapperai Ismaël fils de Néthania, sans que personne le sache; pourquoi t'ôterait-il la vie, afin que tous les Juifs qui se sont rassemblés vers toi soient dissipés, et que les restes de Juda périssent?
16 And Gedaliah son of Ahikam says to Johanan son of Kareah, “You do not do this thing, for you are speaking falsehood concerning Ishmael.”
Mais Guédalia, fils d'Ahikam, dit à Johanan fils de Karéah: ne fais point cela; car tu parles faussement d'Ismaël.
