Jeremiah 40
1 The word that has been to Jeremiah from YHWH, after Nebuzar-Adan, chief of the executioners, has sent him from Ramah, in his taking him—and he a prisoner in chains—in the midst of all the expulsion of Jerusalem and of Judah, who are removed to Babylon.

2 And the chief of the executioners takes Jeremiah and says to him, “Your God YHWH has spoken this calamity concerning this place,
Imtawt boeiping loh Jeremiah te a loh tih a taengah, “BOEIPA na Pathen loh he hmuen he thae a phoei coeng.
3 and YHWH brings [it] in, and does as He spoke, because you have sinned against YHWH, and have not listened to His voice, even this thing has been to you.
BOEIPA taengah na tholh uh dongah ni a. thui bangla BOEIPA loh a thoeng sak tih a saii. A ol te na hnatun uh pawt dongah ni he ol he a ol bangla nangmih taengah a thoeng.
4 And now, behold, I have loosed you today from the chains that [are] on your hand; if [it is] good in your eyes to come with me [to] Babylon, come, and I keep my eye on you: and if [it is] evil in your eyes to come with me to Babylon, refrain; see, all the land [is] before you, to where [it is] good, and to where [it is] right in your eyes to go—go.”
Tihnin ah na kut dongkah thirhui dong lamloh nang kan hlam coeng ne. Na mik dongah a then atah kamah taengah Babylon la na lo mako. Na lo vaengah ka mik he nang soah ka khueh bitni. Tedae na mik ah a thae atah kai taengah Babylon la na lo ham khaw paa mai. Khohmuen pum he na mikhmuh ah na hmuh coeng. Na mikhmuh ah a then ham neh a thuem ham atah cet khaw cet mai.
5 And while he does not reply—“Or turn back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has appointed over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him in the midst of the people, or wherever it is right in your eyes to go—go.” And the chief of the executioners gives a ration and gift to him, and sends him away,

Na mikhmuh ah a thuem sarhui atah cet khaw cet mai,” a ti nah. Te phoeiah anih te imtawt boeiping loh buhkak neh buham a paek tih a tueih.
6 and Jeremiah comes to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, to Mizpah, and dwells with him in the midst of the people who are left in the land.
Te phoeiah Jeremiah te Mizpah kah Ahikam capa Gedaliah taengla cet tih khohmuen kah aka om pilnam lakli ah kho a sak.
7 And all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field hear, they and their men, that the king of Babylon has appointed Gedaliah son of Ahikam over the land, and that he has charged him [with] men, and women, and infants, and of the poor of the land, of those who have not been removed to Babylon;
Babylon manghai loh Ahikam capa Gedaliah te khohmuen kah ham a tuek. Babylon la a poelyoe pawh khohmuen kah khodaeng huta camoe hlang boeih anih a hung sak te kohong kah caem mangpa boeih neh a hlang rhoek loh a yaak uh.
8 and they come to Gedaliah at Mizpah, even Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan [the] sons of Kareah, and Seraiah son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah son of the Maachathite, they and their men.
Te dongah Mizpah kah Gedaliah taengla Nethaniah capa Ishmael, Kareah capa Johanan neh Jonathan, Tanhumeth capa Seraiah, Netophah koca ah Netophah Ephai, Maakathi capa Jezaniah neh a hlang rhoek te ha pawk uh.
9 And Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, swears to them and to their men, saying, “Do not be afraid of serving the Chaldeans, abide in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it is well for you;
Te vaengah amih ham te Shaphan koca Ahikam capa Gedaliah loh a toemngam tih a hlang rhoek taengah, “Khalden taengah thohtat ham te rhih boeh, a khohmuen ah kho na sak uh tih Babylon manghai taengah na thohtat uh daengah ni, nangmih ham a voelphoeng eh.
10 and I, behold, I am dwelling in Mizpah to stand before the Chaldeans who have come to us, and you, gather wine, and summer fruit, and oil, and put [them] in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.”

11 And also all the Jews who [are] in Moab, and among the sons of Ammon, and in Edom, and who [are] in all the lands, have heard that the king of Babylon has given a remnant to Judah, and that he has appointed over them Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan,
Babylon manghai loh Judah ah a meet a paih tih amih ham Shaphan koca Ahikam capa Gedaliah a khueh te Moab neh Ammon koca rhoek taengah, Edom neh diklai pum kah Judah boeih long khaw a yaak uh.
12 and all the Jews from all the places to where they have been driven, return and enter the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and they gather wine and summer fruit—to multiply abundantly.

13 And Johanan son of Kareah, and all the heads of the forces that [are] in the field, have come to Gedaliah at Mizpah,
Te phoeiah kohong kah Kareah capa Johanan neh caem mangpa boeih khaw Mizpah kah Gedaliah taengla pawk uh.
14 and they say to him, “Do you really know that Ba‘alis king of the sons of Ammon has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to strike your soul?” And Gedaliah son of Ahikam has not given credence to them.
Te vaengah anih te, “Ammon koca kah manghai Baalis loh na hinglu ngawn ham Nethaniah capa Ishmael han tueih te na ming khaw na ming van nim,” a ti na uh. Tedae Ahikam capa Gedaliah loh amih te a tangnah moenih.
15 And Johanan son of Kareah has spoken to Gedaliah in secret, in Mizpah, saying, “Please let me go, and I strike Ishmael son of Nethaniah, and no one knows; why does he strike your soul? And all Judah who are gathered to you have been scattered, and the remnant of Judah has perished.”

16 And Gedaliah son of Ahikam says to Johanan son of Kareah, “You do not do this thing, for you are speaking falsehood concerning Ishmael.”
Ahikam capa Gedaliah loh Kareah capa Johanan te, “Te hno te saii rhoe saii boeh, Ishmael kawng te a honghi ni na thui,” a ti nah.
