Jeremiah 37
1 And King Zedekiah son of Josiah reigns instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,
En lugar de Conías, hijo de Joacim, reinó Sedequías, hijo de Josías, al cual Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, constituyó como rey en la tierra de Judá.
2 and he has not listened—he, and his servants, and the people of the land—to the words of YHWH that He spoke by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.
Pero ni él, ni sus esclavos, ni el pueblo de la tierra escucharon las Palabras que Yavé habló por medio del profeta Jeremías.
3 And Zedekiah the king sends Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “Pray, we implore you, for us to our God YHWH.”
El rey Sedequías envió a Jucal, hijo de Selemías, y a Sofonías, hijo del sacerdote Maasías, para que dijeran al profeta Jeremías: Intercede ahora por nosotros ante Yavé nuestro ʼElohim.
4 And Jeremiah is coming in and going out in the midst of the people (and they have not put him in the prison-house),
En ese entonces Jeremías entraba y salía en medio del pueblo, porque aún no lo habían encerrado en la cárcel.
5 and the force of Pharaoh has come out of Egypt, and the Chaldeans who are laying siege against Jerusalem hear their report, and go up from off Jerusalem.
Entonces el ejército de Faraón había salido de Egipto, y al llegar la noticia a oídos de los caldeos que tenían sitiada a Jerusalén, se retiraron de ella.
6 And there is a word of YHWH to Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
Entonces vino la Palabra de Yavé al profeta Jeremías:
7 “Thus said YHWH, God of Israel: Thus you say to the king of Judah who is sending you to Me, to seek Me: Behold, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help has turned back to its land, to Egypt,
Yavé ʼElohim de Israel dice: Dirás esto al rey de Judá, quien los envió a Mí para que me consultaran: Mira, el ejército de Faraón que salió a socorrerte regresó a su tierra en Egipto.
8 and the Chaldeans have turned back and fought against this city, and captured it, and burned it with fire.
Los caldeos regresarán y atacarán esta ciudad. La tomarán y la incendiarán.
9 Thus said YHWH: Do not lift up your souls, saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;
Yavé dice: No se engañen ustedes mismos, al decir: Ciertamente los caldeos se apartarán de nosotros, porque no se apartarán.
10 for though you had struck all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men—they rise, each in his tent, and have burned this city with fire.”
Porque aun si ustedes hubieran derrotado a todo el ejército de los caldeos que luchaba contra ustedes, y hubieran dejado hombres heridos entre ustedes, cada uno en su tienda, estos se levantarían y consumirían con fuego esta ciudad.
11 And it has come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,
Aconteció que, cuando el ejército caldeo se retiró de Jerusalén a causa del ejército de Faraón,
12 that Jeremiah goes out from Jerusalem to go [to] the land of Benjamin, to receive a portion there in the midst of the people.
Jeremías salió de Jerusalén hacia el territorio de Benjamín para tomar posesión de una herencia entre su pueblo.
13 And it comes to pass, he is at the Gate of Benjamin, and there [is] a master of the ward, and his name is Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah; and he catches Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”
Mientras él estaba en la puerta de Benjamín, estaba allí un capitán llamado Irías, hijo de Selemías, hijo de Hananías, el cual apresó al profeta Jeremías y le dijo: Te pasas a los caldeos.
14 And Jeremiah says, “Falsehood! I am not defecting to the Chaldeans”; and he has not listened to him, and Irijah lays hold on Jeremiah, and brings him to the heads,
Jeremías respondió: Falso, no me paso a los caldeos. Pero él no lo quiso escuchar. Agarró a Jeremías y lo llevó ante los magistrados.
15 and the heads are angry against Jeremiah, and have struck him, and put him in the prison-house—the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had made it for a prison-house.
Los magistrados se airaron contra Jeremías y lo azotaron. Lo llevaron a la cárcel en la casa del escriba Jonatán, pues la habían convertido en cárcel.
16 When Jeremiah has entered into the house of the dungeon, and to the cells, then Jeremiah dwells there many days,
Así que Jeremías fue llevado a un calabozo en una mazmorra, y allí estuvo muchos días.
17 and King Zedekiah sends, and takes him, and the king asks him in his house in secret, and says, “Is there a word from YHWH?” And Jeremiah says, “There is,” and he says, “You are given into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
El rey Sedequías mandó a buscarlo. Tan pronto como estuvo en su casa, le preguntó en secreto: ¿Hay Palabra de Yavé? Jeremías respondió: Hay. Y añadió: Serás entregado en mano del rey de Babilonia.
18 And Jeremiah says to King Zedekiah, “What have I sinned against you, and against your servants, and against this people, that you have put me into a prison-house?
Además, Jeremías dijo al rey Sedequías: ¿Pequé contra ti, contra tus esclavos, o contra este pueblo para que me metieras en la cárcel?
19 And where [are] your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon does not come in against you, and against this land?
¿Dónde están tus profetas que les profetizaban: El rey de Babilonia no vendrá contra ustedes, ni contra esta tierra?
20 And now, please listen, O my lord the king; please let my supplication fall before you, and do not cause me to return [to] the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I do not die there.”
Pero ahora, oh rey, ʼadón mío, te ruego que me escuches. Permite que mi súplica llegue ante ti, y no me devuelvas a casa del escriba Jonatán para que no muera allí.
21 And King Zedekiah commands, and they commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, also to give a cake of bread to him daily from the bakers’ street, until the consumption of all the bread of the city, and Jeremiah dwells in the court of the prison.
Entonces el rey Sedequías ordenó que custodiaran a Jeremías en el patio de la guardia real, y que le dieran una hogaza de pan diariamente de la calle de los Panaderos, mientras hubiera pan en la ciudad. Por tanto Jeremías permaneció en el patio de la guardia real.
