Jeremiah 37
1 And King Zedekiah son of Josiah reigns instead of Coniah son of Jehoiakim whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had caused to reign in the land of Judah,
Or il re Sedekia, figliuolo di Giosia, regnò in luogo di Conia, figliuolo di Joiakim, e fu costituito re nel paese di Giuda da Nebucadnetsar, re di Babilonia.
2 and he has not listened—he, and his servants, and the people of the land—to the words of YHWH that He spoke by the hand of Jeremiah the prophet.
Ma né egli, né i suoi servitori, né il popolo del paese dettero ascolto alle parole che l’Eterno avea pronunziate per mezzo del profeta Geremia.
3 And Zedekiah the king sends Jehucal son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah son of Maaseiah the priest, to Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “Pray, we implore you, for us to our God YHWH.”
Il re Sedekia mandò Jehucal, figliuolo di Scelemia, e Sofonia, figliuolo di Maaseia, il sacerdote, dal profeta Geremia, per dirgli: “Deh, prega per noi l’Eterno, l’Iddio nostro”.
4 And Jeremiah is coming in and going out in the midst of the people (and they have not put him in the prison-house),
Or Geremia andava e veniva fra il popolo, e non era ancora stato messo in prigione.
5 and the force of Pharaoh has come out of Egypt, and the Chaldeans who are laying siege against Jerusalem hear their report, and go up from off Jerusalem.
L’esercito di Faraone era uscito d’Egitto; e come i Caldei che assediavano Gerusalemme n’ebbero ricevuto la notizia, tolsero l’assedio a Gerusalemme.
6 And there is a word of YHWH to Jeremiah the prophet, saying,
Allora la parola dell’Eterno fu rivolta al profeta Geremia, in questi termini:
7 “Thus said YHWH, God of Israel: Thus you say to the king of Judah who is sending you to Me, to seek Me: Behold, the force of Pharaoh that is coming out to you for help has turned back to its land, to Egypt,
“Così parla l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele: Dite così al re di Giuda che vi ha mandati da me per consultarmi: Ecco, l’esercito di Faraone ch’era uscito in vostro soccorso, è tornato nel suo paese, in Egitto;
8 and the Chaldeans have turned back and fought against this city, and captured it, and burned it with fire.
e i Caldei torneranno, e combatteranno contro questa città, la prenderanno, e la daranno alle fiamme.
9 Thus said YHWH: Do not lift up your souls, saying, The Chaldeans surely go from off us, for they do not go;
Così parla l’Eterno: Non ingannate voi stessi dicendo: Certo, i Caldei se n’andranno da noi, perché non se n’andranno.
10 for though you had struck all the force of the Chaldeans who are fighting with you, and there were left of them wounded men—they rise, each in his tent, and have burned this city with fire.”
Anzi, quand’anche voi sconfiggeste tutto l’esercito de’ Caldei che combatte contro di voi, e non ne rimanesse che degli uomini feriti, questi si leverebbero, ciascuno nella sua tenda, e darebbero questa città alle fiamme”.
11 And it has come to pass, in the going up of the force of the Chaldeans from off Jerusalem, because of the force of Pharaoh,
Or quando l’esercito de’ Caldei si fu ritirato d’innanzi a Gerusalemme a motivo dell’esercito di Faraone,
12 that Jeremiah goes out from Jerusalem to go [to] the land of Benjamin, to receive a portion there in the midst of the people.
Geremia uscì da Gerusalemme per andare nel paese di Beniamino, per ricever quivi la sua porzione in mezzo al popolo.
13 And it comes to pass, he is at the Gate of Benjamin, and there [is] a master of the ward, and his name is Irijah son of Shelemiah, son of Hananiah; and he catches Jeremiah the prophet, saying, “You are defecting to the Chaldeans!”
Ma quando fu alla porta di Beniamino, c’era quivi un capitano della guardia, per nome Ireia, figliuolo di Scelemia, figliuolo di Hanania, il quale arrestò il profeta Geremia, dicendo: “Tu vai ad arrenderti ai Caldei”.
14 And Jeremiah says, “Falsehood! I am not defecting to the Chaldeans”; and he has not listened to him, and Irijah lays hold on Jeremiah, and brings him to the heads,
E Geremia rispose: “E’ falso; io non vado ad arrendermi ai Caldei”; ma l’altro non gli diede ascolto; arrestò Geremia, e lo menò dai capi.
15 and the heads are angry against Jeremiah, and have struck him, and put him in the prison-house—the house of Jonathan the scribe, for they had made it for a prison-house.
E i capi s’adirarono contro Geremia, lo percossero, e lo misero in prigione nella casa di Gionathan, il segretario; perché di quella avean fatto un carcere.
16 When Jeremiah has entered into the house of the dungeon, and to the cells, then Jeremiah dwells there many days,
Quando Geremia fu entrato nella prigione sotterranea fra le segrete, e vi fu rimasto molti giorni,
17 and King Zedekiah sends, and takes him, and the king asks him in his house in secret, and says, “Is there a word from YHWH?” And Jeremiah says, “There is,” and he says, “You are given into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
il re Sedekia lo mandò a prendere, lo interrogò in casa sua, di nascosto, e gli disse: “C’è egli qualche parola da parte dell’Eterno?” E Geremia rispose: “Sì, c’è”. E aggiunse: “Tu sarai dato in mano del re di Babilonia”.
18 And Jeremiah says to King Zedekiah, “What have I sinned against you, and against your servants, and against this people, that you have put me into a prison-house?
Geremia disse inoltre al re Sedekia: “Che peccato ho io commesso contro di te o contro i tuoi servitori o contro questo popolo, che m’avete messo in prigione?
19 And where [are] your prophets who prophesied to you, saying, The king of Babylon does not come in against you, and against this land?
E dove sono ora i vostri profeti che vi profetavano dicendo: Il re di Babilonia non verrà contro di voi né contro questo paese?
20 And now, please listen, O my lord the king; please let my supplication fall before you, and do not cause me to return [to] the house of Jonathan the scribe, that I do not die there.”
Ora ascolta, ti prego, o re, mio signore; e la mia supplicazione giunga bene accolta nel tuo cospetto; non mi far tornare nella casa di Gionathan lo scriba, sì ch’io vi muoia”.
21 And King Zedekiah commands, and they commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, also to give a cake of bread to him daily from the bakers’ street, until the consumption of all the bread of the city, and Jeremiah dwells in the court of the prison.
Allora il re Sedekia ordinò che Geremia fosse custodito nel cortile della prigione, e gli fosse dato tutti i giorni un pane dalla via de’ fornai, finché tutto il pane della città fosse consumato. Così Geremia rimase nel cortile della prigione.
