Jeremiah 26

1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word has been from YHWH, saying,

योशियाह के पुत्र यहूदिया के राजा यहोइयाकिम के राज्य-काल के प्रारंभ में याहवेह की ओर से यह संदेश भेजा गया:

2 “Thus said YHWH: Stand in the court of the house of YHWH, and you have spoken to all [those of] the cities of Judah, who are coming to bow themselves in the house of YHWH, all the words that I have commanded you to speak to them—you do not diminish a word.

“याहवेह का आदेश यह है: याहवेह के भवन के आंगन में खड़े होकर यहूदिया के उन सारे नगरों को संबोधित करो, जो याहवेह के भवन में वंदना के उद्देश्य से एकत्र हुए हैं तथा तुम उन्हें वह सब प्रगट कर दो, जिनके लिए वचन देने का आदेश मैं तुम्हें दे चुका हूं; एक शब्द भी न छूटने पाए.

3 Perhaps they listen, and each turns back from his evil way; then I have relented concerning the evil that I am thinking of doing to them, because of the evil of their doings.

यह संभव है कि वे मेरी सुन लें तथा अपनी बुरी चाल का परित्याग कर दें. जिससे मैं उस विध्वंस का विचार त्याग दूं जो मैंने उनके लिए उनके अधर्म के कारण योजित किया था.

4 And you have said to them, Thus said YHWH: If you do not listen to Me, to walk in My law that I set before you,

तुम्हें उनसे कहना होगा, ‘यह याहवेह की ओर से प्रसारित चेतावनी है: यदि तुम मेरी न सुनो, मेरी नीति का आचरण न करो जो मैं तुम्हारे समक्ष प्रस्तुत कर चुका हूं,

5 to listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I am sending to you, indeed, rising early and sending, and you have not listened,

कि तुम मेरे सेवक उन भविष्यवक्ताओं द्वारा भेजा संदेश न सुनो, जिन्हें मैं बार-बार तुम्हारे लिए भेज रहा हूं (जिनकी तुमने नहीं सुनी है),

6 then I have given up this house as Shiloh, and this city I give up for a reviling to all nations of the earth.”

तब मैं इस भवन की वही स्थिति कर दूंगा जो शीलो की हुई थी तथा मैं इस नगर को पृथ्वी के सारे राष्ट्रों के लिए एक शाप बना दूंगा.’”

7 And the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, hear Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of YHWH,

याहवेह के भवन में पुरोहितों, भविष्यवक्ताओं तथा सारे जनसाधारण ने येरेमियाह को यह वचन देते हुए सुन लिया.

8 and it comes to pass, at the completion of Jeremiah’s speaking all that YHWH has commanded him to speak to all the people, that the priests, and the prophets, and all the people catch him, saying, “You surely die!

जब येरेमियाह याहवेह द्वारा आदेशित सब लोगों के लिए संदेश दे चुके, पुरोहितों, भविष्यवक्ताओं तथा लोगों ने उन्हें यह कहते हुए पकड़ लिया, “इसके लिए तुम्हें प्राण-दंड दिया जाना उपयुक्त है!

9 Why have you prophesied in the Name of YHWH, saying, This house will be as Shiloh, and this city is desolated, without inhabitant?” And all the people are assembled to Jeremiah in the house of YHWH.

कैसे तुमने याहवेह के नाम में यह भविष्यवाणी कर दी है, यह भवन शीलो सदृश हो जाएगा तथा यह नगर निर्जन तथा उजाड़ हो जाएगा?” याहवेह के भवन परिसर में सारे जनसमूह ने येरेमियाह को घेर लिया.

10 And the heads of Judah hear these things, and they go up from the house of the king [to] the house of YHWH, and sit in the opening of the New Gate of YHWH.

जब यहूदिया के अधिकारियों ने यह सब सुना, वे राजमहल से याहवेह के भवन परिसर में आ गए, उन्होंने याहवेह के भवन के नव-द्वार के प्रवेश में अपने आसन स्थापित किए.

11 And the priests and the prophets speak to the heads, and to all the people, saying, “Judgment of death [is] for this man, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your ears.”

तब पुरोहितों एवं भविष्यवक्ताओं ने उन अधिकारियों एवं जनसमुदाय को संबोधित कर कहा, “यह व्यक्ति मृत्यु दंड के योग्य है. उसने इस नगर के विरुद्ध भविष्यवाणी की है, जैसा कि आपने स्वयं सुन लिया है!”

12 And Jeremiah speaks to all the heads, and to all the people, saying, “YHWH sent me to prophesy concerning this house, and concerning this city, all the words that you have heard.

तब येरेमियाह ने सारे अधिकारियों तथा सारे जनसमुदाय को यह कहते हुए अपना प्रत्युत्तर दिया: “स्वयं याहवेह ने मुझे उन शब्दों में जिन्हें आप लोगों ने सुने हैं, इस नगर एवं भवन के विरुद्ध भविष्यवाणी करने का आदेश दिया था.

13 And now, amend your ways, and your doings, and listen to the voice of your God YHWH, and YHWH relents concerning the evil that He has spoken against you.

अब आप अपने आचरण को तथा अपने कार्यों को सुधार लीजिए तथा याहवेह अपने परमेश्वर के आदेश के प्रति आज्ञाकारी बन जाइए. तब याहवेह आपके संबंध में घोषित विपत्ति के विषय में अपने संकल्प को परिवर्तित कर देंगे.

14 And I, behold, I [am] in your hand, do to me as is good and as is right in your eyes;

जहां तक मेरा प्रश्न है, मैं तो आपकी कृपा पर निर्भर कर रहा हूं; मेरे साथ आप वही कीजिए जो कुछ आपको उपयुक्त लगे.

15 only, certainly know that if you are putting me to death, you are surely putting innocent blood on yourselves, and on this city, and on its inhabitants; for YHWH has truly sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”

हां, यह अवश्य समझ लीजिए, यदि आप मुझे प्राण-दंड देते हैं, आप एक निस्सहाय की मृत्यु का दोष स्वयं पर तथा इस नगर एवं इसके निवासियों पर ले आएंगे, क्योंकि सत्य यही है कि याहवेह ने ही मुझे इस संदेश को प्रगट करने भेजा है कि आप इसे सुन लें.”

16 And the heads and all the people say to the priests and to the prophets, “There is not a judgment of death for this man, for he has spoken to us in the Name of our God YHWH.”

यह सुन अधिकारियों तथा सारे जनसमूह ने पुरोहितों तथा भविष्यवक्ताओं से कहा, “इस व्यक्ति को प्राण-दंड न दिया जाए! क्योंकि इसने हमसे याहवेह हमारे परमेश्वर के नाम में बात की है.”

17 And men from [the] elderly of the land rise up and speak to all the assembly of the people, saying,

तत्पश्चात देश के कुछ प्राचीन नागरिकों ने उठकर जनसभा को संबोधित कर कहा,

18 “Micah the Morashtite has been prophesying in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, and he says to all the people of Judah, saying, Thus said YHWH of Hosts: Zion is a plowed field, and Jerusalem is heaps, And the mountain of the house is for high places of a forest.

“यहूदिया के राजा हिज़किय्याह के राज्य-काल में मोरेशेथवासी मीकाह ने भविष्यवाणी की थी और उसकी भविष्यवाणी सारे यहूदियावासियों से संबंधित इस प्रकार थी, ‘सेनाओं के याहवेह ने यह कहा है: “‘ज़ियोन पर खेत के सदृश हल चला दिया जाएगा, येरूशलेम खंडहर हो जाएगा, तथा भवन की पहाड़ी, वन में पूजा-स्थल का स्वरूप ले लेगी.’

19 Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? Did he not fear YHWH? Indeed, he appeases the face of YHWH, and YHWH relents concerning the calamity that He spoke against them; and we are doing great evil against our souls.”

क्या यहूदिया के राजा हिज़किय्याह एवं सारे यहूदिया की जनता ने उसे प्राण-दंड दिया? क्या हिज़किय्याह ने याहवेह से डर और श्रद्धा के साथ याचना नहीं की? क्या याहवेह ने उनका विनाश करने का वह विचार त्याग नहीं दिया, जिसकी चेतावनी याहवेह पहले से दे चुके थे? किंतु अब हम स्वयं अपने ही विरुद्ध घोर संकट कर रहे हैं!”

20 And there has also been a man prophesying in the Name of YHWH, Urijah son of Shemaiah, of Kirjath-Jearim, and he prophesies against this city, and against this land according to all the words of Jeremiah,

वस्तुतः एक ऐसा व्यक्ति हो चुका है जिसने याहवेह के नाम में भविष्यवाणी की थी; शेमायाह का पुत्र उरियाह जो किरयथ-यआरीमवासी था; उसने इस नगर एवं देश के विरुद्ध इसी प्रकार के शब्दों में भविष्यवाणी की थी जैसी येरेमियाह ने.

21 and King Jehoiakim, and all his mighty ones, and all the heads, hear his words, and the king seeks to put him to death, and Urijah hears, and fears, and flees, and goes to Egypt.

जब राजा यहोइयाकिम, उसके शूर योद्धाओं तथा उसके अधिकारियों ने ये शब्द सुने, राजा ने उसे घात करने की युक्ति की. किंतु जब उरियाह को इसका समाचार प्राप्‍त हुआ, वह भयभीत हो मिस्र देश को पलायन कर गया.

22 And King Jehoiakim sends men to Egypt—Elnathan son of Achbor, and men with him to Egypt—

तब राजा यहोइयाकिम ने मिस्र देश को अपने ये प्रतिनिधि भेज दिए, अखबोर का पुत्र एल-नाथान तथा उसके साथ अन्य विशिष्ट व्यक्ति, ये सभी मिस्र देश जा पहुंचे.

23 and they bring out Urijah from Egypt, and bring him to King Jehoiakim, and he strikes him with a sword, and casts his corpse to the graves of the sons of the people.

वहां से वे उरियाह को लौटा ले आए, उसे राजा यहोइयाकिम के समक्ष प्रस्तुत किया गया, जिसने उसे तलवार से घात कर उसका शव उस स्थान पर फेंक दिया जहां सर्वसाधारण को गाड़ा जाता था.

24 Only, the hand of Ahikam son of Shaphan has been with Jeremiah so as not to give him up into the hand of the people to put him to death.

किंतु, शापान का पुत्र अहीकाम येरेमियाह का सहायक था, परिणामस्वरूप येरेमियाह को मृत्यु दंड के लिए लोगों के हाथों में सौंपा नहीं गया.
