Jeremiah 20
1 And Pashhur son of Immer the priest—who [is] also overseer, leader in the house of YHWH—hears Jeremiah prophesying these things,
Phaashihuur lubichi, ilmi Imeerii inni mana qulqullummaa Waaqayyoo keessatti bulchaa hangafa ture sun yommuu Ermiyaasii waan kana raaju dhagaʼetti,
2 and Pashhur strikes Jeremiah the prophet, and puts him in the stocks that [are] by the Upper Gate of Benjamin, that [is] by the house of YHWH.
akka Ermiyaas raajichi tumamee Karra Beniyaam isa ol aanu kan mana Waaqayyoo biratti argamu sana keessatti miilli isaa jirma lama gidduu galee hidhamu godhe.
3 And it comes to pass on the next day, that Pashhur brings Jeremiah out from the stocks, and Jeremiah says to him, “YHWH has not called your name Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side.
Ermiyaasis guyyaa itti aanu yeroo Phaashihuur jirma lamaan gidduudhaa isa baasetti akkana jedheen; “Maqaan Waaqayyo siif baase Maagormiisaabiib malee Phaashihuur miti.
4 For thus said YHWH: Behold, I am making you for a fear to yourself, And to all loving you, And they have fallen by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes are beholding, And all Judah I give into the hand of the king of Babylon, And he has removed them to Babylon, And he has struck them with the sword.
Waaqayyo akkana jedhaatii; ‘Ani akka ati ofii keetii fi michoota keetti sodaachisaa taatu sin godha; yeroo isaan goraadee diinota isaaniitiin dhuman ijuma keetiin argita. Ani Yihuudaa hunda dabarsee mootii Baabiloniitti nan kenna; innis Baabilonitti isaan geessa yookaan goraadeedhaan isaan fixa.
5 And I have given all the strength of this city, And all its labor, and all its precious things, Indeed, I give all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies, And they have spoiled them, and taken them, And have brought them into Babylon.
Ani qabeenya magaalaa kanaa hunda jechuunis oomisha ishee hunda, waan gatii guddaa qabu hundaa fi badhaadhummaa mootota Yihuudaa hunda dabarsee diinota isaaniitti nan kenna. Isaanis boojiʼanii fudhatanii Baabilonitti isaan geessan.
6 And you, Pashhur, and all dwelling in your house, Go into captivity. And you enter Babylon, And there you die, and there you are buried, You and all loving you, To whom you have prophesied falsely.”
Yaa Phaashihuur ati, warri mana kee jiraatan hundis boojiʼamtanii Baabilonitti geeffamtu. Atii fi michoota kee warri ati raajii sobaa dubbatteef hundi achitti duutanii awwaalamtu.’”
7 You have persuaded me, O YHWH, and I am persuaded; You have hardened me, and prevail, I have been for a laughter all the day, Everyone is mocking at me,
Yaa Waaqayyo, ati na gowwoomsite; anis nan gowwoomfame; ati humnaan na caaltee na moʼatte. Ani guyyaa guutuu waan kolfaa nan taʼe; namni hundis natti qoosa.
8 Because from the time I speak I cry out, I shout, “Violence and destruction!” For the word of YHWH has been to me For reproach and for derision all the day.
Ani yeroon dubbadhu hunda nan iyya; “Goolii, badiisa” jedhees nan labsa. Kanaafuu dubbiin Waaqayyo guyyaa guutuu arrabsoo fi tuffii natti fide.
9 And I said, “I do not mention Him, Nor do I speak anymore in His Name,” And it has been in my heart As a burning fire shut up in my bones, And I have been weary of containing, And I am not able.
Garuu yoo ani, “Ani maqaa isaa hin dhaʼu yookaan siʼachi maqaa isaatiin hin dubbadhu” jedhe, dubbiin isaa onnee koo keessatti akka ibiddaa, akkuma ibidda lafee koo keessatti ukkaamsameera. Ani of keessatti isa qabachuu nan dadhabe; dhuguma iyyuu ani hin dandaʼu.
10 For I have heard the evil report of many, “Fear [is] all around!” “Declare, and we declare it!” All my allies are watching [for] my halting, “Perhaps he is enticed, and we prevail over him, And we take our vengeance on him.”
Ani hasaasa, “Karaa hundaan sodaa! Isa balaaleffadhaa! Isa haa balaaleffannu!” jedhu hedduu nan dhagaʼa. Michoonni koo hundi, “Inni ni gowwoomfama taʼa; nus ergasii isa ni moʼanna; haaloo keenya illee ni baafanna” jechaa kufaatii koo eeggatu.
11 And YHWH [is] with me, as a mighty, awesome One, Therefore my persecutors stumble and do not prevail, They have been exceedingly ashamed, For they have not acted wisely, Continuous confusion is not forgotten.
Waaqayyo garuu akkuma goota humna qabeessa tokkootti na wajjin jira; kanaafuu warri na adamsan ni gufatu malee hin moʼatan. Isaan baayʼee qaaneffaman; hin milkaaʼaniitii; salphinni isaanii gonkumaa hin irraanfatamu.
12 And, O YHWH of Hosts, trier of the righteous, Beholder of reins and heart, I see Your vengeance on them, For I have revealed my cause to you.
Yaa Waaqayyoo Waan Hunda Dandeessu, kan nama qajeelaa qortu, kan garaa fi yaada namaa keessa argitu, ani falmii koo sitti kennadheeraatii ati yeroo isaanitti haaloo baatu na argisiisi.
13 Sing to YHWH, praise YHWH, For He has delivered the soul of the needy From the hand of evildoers.
Waaqayyoof faarfadhaa! Waaqayyoon galateeffadhaa! Inni lubbuu namoota hiyyeeyyii harka hamootaatii ni baasa.
14 Cursed [is] the day in which I was born, The day that my mother bore me, Let it not be blessed!
Guyyaan ani dhaladhe haa abaaramu! Guyyaan haati koo na deesse sunis hin eebbifamin!
15 Cursed [is] the man who bore tidings [to] my father, Saying, “A male child has been born to you,” Making him very glad!
Namichi, “Daaʼimni tokko jechuunis ilmi siif dhalatee jira!” jedhee abbaa kootiif oduu fidee akka malee isa gammachiise sun haa abaaramu!
16 Then that man has been as the cities, That YHWH overthrew, and did not relent, And he has heard a cry in the morning, And a shout at noontime.
Namichi sun akkuma magaalaawwan Waaqayyo gara laafina malee garagalchee haa taʼu. Inni ganamaan wawwaannaa, saafaan immoo iyya waraanaa haa dhagaʼu.
17 Because he has not put me to death from the womb, And my mother is to me—my grave, And her womb [is] a perpetual pregnancy.
Akka haati koo awwaala naa taatuuf, akka gadameessi ishees iddoo jireenya bara baraa naaf taʼuuf inni utuu ani gadameessa keessaa hin baʼin na hin ajjeefneetii.
18 Why [is] this? I have come out from the womb To see labor and sorrow, Indeed, my days are consumed in shame!
Ani maaliifan rakkinaa fi gadda arguuf jireenya koos qaaniin fixuuf gadameessa keessaa baʼe?
