Jeremiah 19
1 Thus said YHWH: “Go, and you have acquired a potter’s earthen vessel, and from [the] elderly of the people, and from [the] elderly of the priests,
Así dijo Yahvé: “Ve y compra un recipiente de barro de alfarero, y toma a algunos de los ancianos del pueblo y de los ancianos de los sacerdotes;
2 and you have gone forth to the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, that [is] at the opening of the gate of the pottery, and have proclaimed there the words that I speak to you,
y sal al valle del hijo de Hinom, que está junto a la entrada de la puerta de Harsit, y proclama allí las palabras que yo te diré.
3 and have said, Hear a word of YHWH, you kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem!” Thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel: “Behold, I am bringing in evil on this place, at which the ears of everyone who is hearing it tingles,
Digan: “Escuchen la palabra de Yahvé, reyes de Judá y habitantes de Jerusalén: Yahvé de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: “He aquí que yo traigo el mal sobre este lugar, que a quien lo oiga le hormiguearán los oídos.
4 because that they have forsaken Me, and make known this place, and make incense in it to other gods, that they did not know, they and their fathers, and the kings of Judah, and they have filled this place [with] innocent blood,
Porque me han abandonado y han profanado este lugar, y han quemado en él incienso a otros dioses que no conocían — ellos, sus padres y los reyes de Judá — y han llenado este lugar con sangre de inocentes,
5 and have built the high places of Ba‘al to burn their sons with fire, burnt-offerings to Ba‘al, that I did not command, nor spoke of, nor did it come up on My heart.
y han construido los lugares altos de Baal para quemar a sus hijos en el fuego para holocaustos a Baal, lo cual yo no ordené, ni hablé, lo cual ni siquiera pasó por mi mente.
6 Therefore, behold, days are coming,” a declaration of YHWH, “and this place is no longer called The Tophet and Valley of the Son of Hinnom, but Valley of the Slaughter.
Por tanto, he aquí que vienen días — dice el Señor — en que este lugar no se llamará más ‘Tofet’, ni ‘Valle del hijo de Hinom’, sino ‘Valle de la Matanza’.
7 And I have made void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place, and have caused them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hand of those seeking their life, and I have given their carcass for food to the bird of the heavens, and to the beast of the earth,
“‘“Anularé el consejo de Judá y de Jerusalén en este lugar. Haré que caigan por la espada ante sus enemigos, y por la mano de los que buscan su vida. Daré sus cadáveres para que sean alimento de las aves del cielo y de los animales de la tierra.
8 and I have made this city for a desolation, and for a hissing, everyone passing by it is astonished, and hisses for all its plagues.
Haré de esta ciudad un asombro y un silbido. Todo el que pase por ella se asombrará y silbará a causa de todas sus plagas.
9 And I have caused them to eat the flesh of their sons, and the flesh of their daughters, and they each eat the flesh of his friend, in the siege and in the constriction with which their enemies constrict them, and those seeking their life.”
Les haré comer la carne de sus hijos y la carne de sus hijas. Cada uno comerá la carne de su amigo en el asedio y en la angustia con que los angustiarán sus enemigos y los que buscan su vida”.
10 “And you have broken the bottle before the eyes of the men who are going with you,
“Entonces romperás el recipiente a la vista de los hombres que van contigo,
11 and have said to them, Thus said YHWH of Hosts: Thus I break this people and this city, as one breaks the potter’s vessel, that is not able to be repaired again, and in Tophet they bury—without place to bury;
y les dirás: “El Señor de los Ejércitos dice: “Así romperé a este pueblo y a esta ciudad como se rompe una vasija de alfarero, que no se puede volver a hacer. Los enterrarán en Tofet hasta que no haya lugar para enterrarlos.
12 so I do to this place—a declaration of YHWH—and to its inhabitants, so as to make this city as Tophet;
Esto es lo que haré con este lugar — dice el Señor — y con sus habitantes, haciendo que esta ciudad sea como Tofet.
13 and the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, have been as the place of Tophet—defiled, even all the houses on whose roofs they have made incense to all the host of the heavens, so as to pour out oblations to other gods.”
Las casas de Jerusalén y las casas de los reyes de Judá, que han sido profanadas, serán como el lugar de Tofet, todas las casas en cuyos tejados han quemado incienso a todo el ejército del cielo y han derramado libaciones a otros dioses””.
14 And Jeremiah comes in from Tophet, to where YHWH had sent him to prophesy, and he stands in the court of the house of YHWH, and he says to all the people:
Entonces Jeremías vino de Tofet, donde Yahvé lo había enviado a profetizar, y se puso de pie en el atrio de la casa de Yahvé, y dijo a todo el pueblo:
15 “Thus said YHWH of Hosts, God of Israel: Behold, I am bringing to this city, and on all its cities, all the calamity that I have spoken against it, for they have hardened their neck to not hear My words!”
“Yahvé de los Ejércitos, el Dios de Israel, dice: ‘He aquí que yo traigo sobre esta ciudad y sobre todas sus villas todo el mal que he pronunciado contra ella, porque han endurecido su cerviz para no oír mis palabras’.”
