Jeremiah 13
1 Thus said YHWH to me: “Go, and you have acquired a girdle of linen for yourself, and have placed it on your loins, and you do not cause it to enter into water.”
Così mi ha detto l’Eterno: “Va’, còmprati una cintura di lino, mettitela sui fianchi, ma non la porre nell’acqua”.
2 And I get the girdle, according to the word of YHWH, and I place [it] on my loins.
Così io comprai la cintura, secondo la parola dell’Eterno, e me la misi sui fianchi.
3 And there is a word of YHWH to me a second time, saying,
E la parola dell’Eterno mi fu indirizzata per la seconda volta, in questi termini:
4 “Take the girdle that you have acquired, that [is] on your loins, and rise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock”;
“Prendi la cintura che hai comprata e che hai sui fianchi; va’ verso l’Eufrate, e quivi nascondila nella fessura d’una roccia”.
5 and I go and hide it by the Euphrates, as YHWH commanded me.
E io andai, e la nascosi presso l’Eufrate, come l’Eterno mi aveva comandato.
6 And it comes to pass, at the end of many days, that YHWH says to me, “Rise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle there, that I commanded you to hide there”;
Dopo molti giorni l’Eterno mi disse: “Lèvati, va’ verso l’Eufrate, e togli di là la cintura, che io t’avevo comandato di nascondervi”.
7 and I go to the Euphrates, and dig, and take the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and behold, the girdle has been marred, it is not profitable for anything.
E io andai verso l’Eufrate, e scavai, e tolsi la cintura dal luogo dove l’avevo nascosta; ed ecco, la cintura era guasta, e non era più buona a nulla.
8 And there is a word of YHWH to me, saying, “Thus said YHWH:
Allora la parola dell’Eterno mi fu rivolta in questi termini:
9 Thus I mar the excellence of Judah, And the great excellence of Jerusalem.
Così parla l’Eterno: “In questo modo io distruggerò l’orgoglio di Giuda e il grande orgoglio di Gerusalemme,
10 This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, Who walk in the stubbornness of their heart, And go after other gods to serve them, And to bow themselves to them, Indeed it is—as this girdle, that is not profitable for anything.
di questo popolo malvagio che ricusa di ascoltare le mie parole, che cammina seguendo la caparbietà del suo cuore, e va dietro ad altri dèi per servirli e per prostrarsi dinanzi a loro; esso diventerà come questa cintura, che non è più buona a nulla.
11 For as the girdle cleaves to the loins of a man, So I caused to cleave to Me The whole house of Israel, And the whole house of Judah,” A declaration of YHWH, “To be to Me for a people, and for a name, And for praise, and for beauty, And they have not listened.
Poiché, come la cintura aderisce ai fianchi dell’uomo, così io avevo strettamente unita a me tutta la casa d’Israele e tutta la casa di Giuda, dice l’Eterno, perché fossero mio popolo, mia fama, mia lode, mia gloria; ma essi non han voluto dare ascolto.
12 And you have said this word to them, Thus said YHWH, God of Israel: Every bottle is full of wine, And they have said to you: Do we not certainly know that every bottle is full of wine?
Tu dirai dunque loro questa parola: Così parla l’Eterno, l’Iddio d’Israele: “Ogni vaso sarà riempito di vino”; e quando essi ti diranno: “Non lo sappiamo noi che ogni vaso si riempie di vino?”
13 And you have said to them, Thus said YHWH: Behold, I am filling all the inhabitants of this land, And the kings who sit for David on his throne, And the priests, and the prophets, And all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, [With] drunkenness,
Allora tu di’ loro: Così parla l’Eterno: Ecco, io empirò d’ebbrezza tutti gli abitanti di questo paese, i re che seggono sul trono di Davide, i sacerdoti, i profeti, e tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
14 And have dashed them against one another, And the fathers and the sons together,” A declaration of YHWH, “I do not pity, nor spare, nor do I have mercy, So as not to destroy them.”
Li sbatterò l’uno contro l’altro, padri e figli assieme, dice l’Eterno; io non risparmierò alcuno; nessuna pietà, nessuna compassione m’impedirà di distruggerli.
15 Hear, and give ear—do not be haughty, For YHWH has spoken.
Ascoltate, porgete orecchio! non insuperbite, perché l’Eterno parla.
16 Give glory to your God YHWH, Before He causes darkness, And before your feet stumble on dark mountains, And you have waited for light, And He has made it for death-shade, And has appointed [it] for thick darkness.
Date gloria all’Eterno, al vostro Dio, prima ch’ei faccia venir le tenebre, e prima che i vostri piedi inciampino sui monti avvolti nel crepuscolo, e voi aspettiate la luce ed egli ne faccia un’ombra di morte, e la muti in oscurità profonda.
17 And if you do not hear it, My soul weeps in secret places, because of pride, Indeed, it weeps and wails, And the tear comes down my eyes, For the flock of YHWH has been taken captive.
Ma se voi non date ascolto, l’anima mia piangerà in segreto, a motivo del vostro orgoglio, gli occhi miei piangeranno dirottamente, si scioglieranno in lacrime, perché il gregge dell’Eterno sarà menato in cattività.
18 Say to the king and to the mistress: Make yourselves low—sit still, For your principalities have come down, The crown of your beauty.
Di’ al re e alla regina: “Sedetevi in terra! perché la vostra gloriosa corona vi cade di testa”.
19 The cities of the south have been shut up, And there is none opening, Judah has been removed—all of her, She has been completely removed—
Le città del mezzogiorno sono chiuse, e non v’è più chi le apra; tutto Giuda è menato in cattività, è menato in esilio tutto quanto.
20 Lift up your eyes, and see those coming in from the north, Where [is] the drove given to you, your beautiful flock?
Alzate gli occhi, e guardate quelli che vengono dal settentrione; dov’è il gregge, il magnifico gregge, che t’era stato dato?
21 What do you say when He looks after you? And you have taught them [to be] over you—leaders for head? Do pangs not seize you as a travailing woman?
Che dirai tu quand’Egli ti punirà? Ma tu stessa hai insegnato ai tuoi amici a dominar su te. Non ti piglieranno i dolori, come piglian la donna che sta per partorire?
22 And when you say in your heart, “Why have these met me?” For the abundance of your iniquity Have your skirts been uncovered, Have your heels suffered violence.
E se tu dici in cuor tuo: “Perché m’avvengon queste cose?” Per la grandezza della tua iniquità i lembi della tua veste ti son rimboccati, e i tuoi calcagni sono violentemente scoperti.
23 “Does a Cushite change his skin? And a leopard his spots? Can you also do good, who are accustomed to do evil?
Un moro può egli mutar la sua pelle o un leopardo le sue macchie? Allora anche voi, abituati come siete a fare il male, potrete fare il bene?
24 And I scatter them as stubble, Passing away, by a wind of the wilderness.
E io li disperderò, come stoppia portata via dal vento del deserto.
25 This [is] your lot, the portion of your measures from Me,” A declaration of YHWH, “Because you have forgotten Me, And trust in falsehood.
E’ questa la tua sorte, la parte ch’io ti misuro, dice l’Eterno, perché tu m’hai dimenticato, e hai riposto la tua fiducia nella menzogna.
26 I have also made your skirts bare before your face, And your shame has been seen.
E io pure ti rovescerò i lembi della veste sul viso, sì che si vegga la tua vergogna.
27 Your adulteries, and your neighings, The wickedness of your whoredom, on heights in a field, I have seen your abominations. Woe to you, O Jerusalem, You are not [yet] made clean—after when [will you be] again?”
Io ho visto le tue abominazioni, i tuoi adulteri, i tuoi nitriti, l’infamia della tua prostituzione sulle colline e per i campi. Guai a te, o Gerusalemme! Quando avverrà mai che tu ti purifichi?”
