James 1
1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes who are in the dispersion: Greetings!
Jacques, serviteur de Dieu et de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, aux douze tribus qui sont dans la dispersion, salut.
2 Count [it] all joy, my brothers, when you may fall into manifold temptations,
Considérez comme sujet d’une joie complète, mes frères, lorsque vous tombez en diverses tentations,
3 knowing that the proof of your faith works endurance,
Sachant que l’épreuve de votre foi produit la patience;
4 and let the endurance have a perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
Or la patience rend les œuvres parfaites, de manière que vous soyez parfaits, accomplis, et ne manquant de rien.
5 And if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask from God, who is giving to all generously, and not reproaching, and it will be given to him;
Que celui à qui manque la sagesse, la demande à Dieu qui donne à tous en abondance, et ne reproche rien, et elle lui sera donnée.
6 but let him ask in faith, doubting nothing, for he who is doubting has been like a wave of the sea, driven by wind and tossed;
Mais qu’il demande avec foi, sans aucun doute; car celui qui doute est semblable au flot de la mer, qui est agité et poussé çà et là par le vent.
7 for do not let that man suppose that he will receive anything from the LORD—
Que cet homme donc ne s’imagine pas recevoir quelque chose de Dieu.
8 a soul-split man [is] unstable in all his ways.
L’homme double d’esprit est inconstant dans toutes ses voies.
9 And let the brother who is low rejoice in his exaltation,
Que celui de nos frères qui est dans l’abaissement se réjouisse de son élévation,
10 but the rich in his becoming low, because he will pass away as a flower of grass;
Et le riche de son abaissement, parce qu’il passera comme la fleur de l’herbe,
11 for the sun rose with the burning heat, and withered the grass, and the flower of it fell, and the beauty of its appearance perished, so also the rich in his way will fade away!
Car le soleil s’est levé avec ses ardeurs, et il a desséché l’herbe, et sa fleur est tombée, et le charme de sa beauté s’est évanoui: ainsi le riche, lui aussi, se flétrira dans ses voies.
12 Blessed [is] the man who endures temptation, because, becoming approved, he will receive the garland of life, which the LORD promised to those loving Him.
Bienheureux l’homme qui souffre patiemment la tentation, parce qu’après avoir été éprouvé, il recevra la couronne de vie, que Dieu a promise à ceux qui l’aiment.
13 Let no one who is being tempted say, “I am tempted from God,” for God is not tempted by evils, and Himself tempts no one,
Que nul, lorsqu’il est tenté, ne dise que c’est Dieu qui le tente; car Dieu ne tente point pour le mal, et il ne tente lui-même personne;
14 but each one is tempted, being led away and enticed by his own desires;
Mais chacun est tenté par sa concupiscence, qui l’entraîne et le séduit.
15 afterward the desire having conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin having been perfected, brings forth death.
Puis la concupiscence lorsqu’elle a conçu, enfante le péché, et le péché, quand il a été consommé, engendre la mort.
16 Do not be led astray, my beloved brothers.
Ne vous y trompez donc point, mes frères bien-aimés.
17 Every good giving, and every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variation, or shadow of turning;
Toute grâce excellente et tout don parfait vient d’en haut et descend du père des lumières, en qui il n’y a ni changement, ni ombre de vicissitudes.
18 having willed [it], He begot us with a word of truth, for our being a certain first-fruit of His creatures.
Car c’est volontairement qu’il nous a engendrés par la parole de vérité, afin que nous fussions comme les prémices de ses créatures.
19 So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,
Vous le savez, mes frères bien-aimés. Ainsi, que tout homme soit prompt à écouter, lent à parler, et lent à la colère;
20 for the wrath of a man does not work the righteousness of God;
Car la colère de l’homme n’opère point la justice de Dieu.
21 for this reason, having put aside all filthiness and superabundance of evil, receive the implanted word in meekness, that is able to save your souls;
C’est pourquoi, rejetant toute impureté et tout excès de malice, recevez avec docilité la parole entée en vous, qui peut sauver vos âmes.
22 and become doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves,
Mais pratiquez cette parole, et ne l’écoutez pas seulement, vous trompant vous-mêmes.
23 because, if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, this one has been like to a man viewing his natural face in a mirror,
Car si quelqu’un écoute la parole et ne la pratique pas, celui-là sera comparé à un homme qui regarde dans un miroir le visage qu’il a reçu en naissant.
24 for he viewed himself, and has gone away, and immediately he forgot what kind of [man] he was;
Il s’est regardé, et s’en est allé, et aussitôt il a oublié quel il était.
25 but he who looked into [the] perfect law—that of liberty, and continued there, not becoming a forgetful hearer, but a doer of work—this one will be blessed in his doing.
Mais celui qui examine à fond la loi parfaite, la loi de la liberté, et qui s’y attache, n’écoutant pas pour oublier, mais pour agir, celui-là sera bienheureux dans ce qu’il fera.
26 If anyone thinks to be religious among you, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, the religion of this one [is] vain;
Si quelqu’un croit être religieux, et ne met pas un frein à sa langue, mais séduit son propre cœur, sa religion est vaine.
27 religion pure and undefiled with the God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation—to keep himself unspotted from the world.
La religion pure et sans tache devant Dieu le Père, la voici: Visiter les orphelins et les veuves dans leurs afflictions, et se conserver sans être souillé par ce siècle.
