< James 1 >

1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes who are in the dispersion: Greetings!
ⲁ̅ⲓⲁⲕⲱⲃⲟⲥ ⳿ⲫⲃⲱⲕ ⳿ⲙⲫϯ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲡⲉⲛ⳪ Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅ Ⲡⲭ̅ⲥ̅ ⳿ⲛϯⲓ̅ⲃ̅ ⳿ⲙⲫⲩⲗⲏ ⲉⲧⲭⲏ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲓϫⲱⲣ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲭⲉⲣⲉ.
2 Count [it] all joy, my brothers, when you may fall into manifold temptations,
ⲃ̅ϣⲱⲡⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲣⲁϣⲓ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲛⲁ⳿ⲥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲉϣⲱⲡ ⲁⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲁⲛⲣⲁⲟⲩ⳿ⲟ ⳿ⲉϩⲁⲛⲡⲓⲣⲁⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲑⲟ ⳿ⲛⲣⲏϯ.
3 knowing that the proof of your faith works endurance,
ⲅ̅ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛ⳿ⲉⲙⲓ ϫⲉ ϯⲇⲟⲕⲓⲙⲏ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲛⲛⲁϩϯ ⲁⲥⲉⲣϩⲱⲃ ⳿ⲉⲟⲩϩⲩⲡⲟⲙⲟⲛⲏ.
4 and let the endurance have a perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
ⲇ̅ϯϩⲩⲡⲟⲙⲟⲛⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲁⲣⲉ ⲟⲩϩⲱⲃ ⲉϥϫⲏⲕ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϣⲱⲡⲓ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧⲥ ϩⲓⲛⲁ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛϫⲏⲕ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩⲟϫ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲉⲛϫⲟⲣϩ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϩⲗⲓ ⲁⲛ.
5 And if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask from God, who is giving to all generously, and not reproaching, and it will be given to him;
ⲉ̅ⲓⲥϫⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲟⲩⲁⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲉϥϫⲟⲣϩ ⳿ⲛ⳿ⲥⲃⲱ ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥⲉⲣⲉⲧⲓⲛ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ ⲫⲏⲉⲧϯ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲁⲡⲗⲱⲥ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϥϣⲱϣϥ ⲁⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉⲩ⳿ⲉϯ ⲛⲁϥ.
6 but let him ask in faith, doubting nothing, for he who is doubting has been like a wave of the sea, driven by wind and tossed;
ⲋ̅ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥⲉⲣⲉⲧⲓⲛ ⲇⲉ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲛⲁϩϯ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲃ̅ ⲁⲛ ⲫⲏ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲉⲧⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲃ̅ ⲁϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓϫⲟⲗ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⳿ⲫⲓⲟⲙ ⲉⲣⲉ ⳿ⲡⲑⲏⲟⲩ ϭⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉϥ⳿ⲓⲛⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲟⲩ.
7 for do not let that man suppose that he will receive anything from the LORD—
ⲍ̅⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲛ⳿ⲑⲣⲉϥⲙⲉⲩⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛⲁϥ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⳿ⲉⲧⲉ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⳿ϥⲛⲁϭⲓ ⳿ϩⲗⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲟⲧϥ ⳿ⲙⲠ⳪.
8 a soul-split man [is] unstable in all his ways.
ⲏ̅ⲡⲓⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲃ̅ ⲟⲩⲁⲧⲥⲉⲙⲛⲓ ⲡⲉ ϩⲓ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲱⲓⲧ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ.
9 And let the brother who is low rejoice in his exaltation,
ⲑ̅ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥϣⲟⲩϣⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲡⲓⲥⲟⲛ ⲉⲧⲑⲉⲃⲏⲟⲩⲧ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲉϥϭⲓⲥⲓ.
10 but the rich in his becoming low, because he will pass away as a flower of grass;
ⲓ̅ⲡⲓⲣⲁⲙⲁ⳿ⲟ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϩⲣⲏⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲉϥⲑⲉⲃⲓⲟ ϫⲉ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲣⲏϯ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩ⳿ϩⲣⲏⲣⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲥⲱⲟⲩⲃⲉⲛ ⳿ϥⲛⲁⲥⲓⲛⲓ.
11 for the sun rose with the burning heat, and withered the grass, and the flower of it fell, and the beauty of its appearance perished, so also the rich in his way will fade away!
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲁϥϣⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⳿ⲫⲣⲏ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲡⲓⲕⲁⲩⲥⲱⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥ⳿ⲧϣⲟⲩⲓ⳿ⲉ ⲡⲓⲥⲱⲟⲩⲃⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲧⲉϥ⳿ϩⲣⲏⲣⲓ ⲁⲥϥⲟⲣϥⲉⲣ ⳿ⲡⲥⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲉϥϩⲟ ⲁϥⲧⲁⲕⲟ ⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ ϩⲱϥ ⲡⲓⲣⲁⲙⲁ⳿ⲟ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϩⲣⲏⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲱⲓⲧ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⳿ϥⲛⲁⲗⲱⲙ.
12 Blessed [is] the man who endures temptation, because, becoming approved, he will receive the garland of life, which the LORD promised to those loving Him.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲟⲩⲙⲁⲕⲁⲣⲓⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲓⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲫⲏⲉⲑⲛⲁ⳿ⲁⲙⲟⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲟⲧϥ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲓⲣⲁⲥⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲁϥϣⲁⲛⲉⲣ ⲟⲩⲥⲱⲧⲡ ⳿ϥⲛⲁϭⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓ⳿ⲭⲗⲟⲙ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⳿ⲡⲱⲛϧ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲁϥⲱϣ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲛⲛⲏⲉⲑⲛⲁⲙⲉⲛⲣⲓⲧϥ.
13 Let no one who is being tempted say, “I am tempted from God,” for God is not tempted by evils, and Himself tempts no one,
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲛ⳿ⲑⲣⲉ ⳿ϩⲗⲓ ϫⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲁⲍⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲫϯ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲁⲍⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲓ ⲫϯ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ϥⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲁⲍⲓⲛ ⲁⲛ ϧⲉⲛ ϩⲁⲛⲡⲉⲧϩⲱⲟⲩ ⳿ϥⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲁⲍⲓⲛ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛⲑⲟϥ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϩⲗⲓ ⲁⲛ.
14 but each one is tempted, being led away and enticed by his own desires;
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲓⲟⲩⲁⲓ ⲉⲩⲉⲣⲡⲓⲣⲁⲍⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ⲧⲉϥⲉⲡⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲁ ⳿ⲙⲙⲓⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲥⲥⲱⲕ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲉⲥⲥⲟⲡⲥⲉⲡ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
15 afterward the desire having conceived, gives birth to sin, and sin having been perfected, brings forth death.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲓⲧⲁ ϯⲉⲡⲓⲑⲩⲙⲓⲁ ⲁⲥϣⲁⲛⲉⲣⲃⲟⲕⲓ ϣⲁⲥⲙⲉⲥ ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥϣⲁⲛϫⲱⲕ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϣⲁϥ⳿ϫⲫⲟ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲙⲟⲩ.
16 Do not be led astray, my beloved brothers.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅⳿ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲥⲱⲣⲉⲙ ⲛⲁ⳿ⲥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲙⲉⲛⲣⲁϯ.
17 Every good giving, and every perfect gift, is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variation, or shadow of turning;
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲧⲁⲓⲟ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲑⲛⲁⲛⲉⲩ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲇⲱⲣⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧϫⲏⲕ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲁⲛ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲡϣⲱⲓ ⲛⲉ ⲉⲩⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲫⲓⲱⲧ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲱⲓⲛⲓ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ϣⲓⲃϯ ⲛⲁϩⲣⲁϥ ⲟⲩⲇⲉ ⲟⲩ⳿ⲥⲙⲟⲧ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲟⲩϧⲏⲓⲃⲓ ⳿ⲉⲁⲥⲥⲓⲛⲓ.
18 having willed [it], He begot us with a word of truth, for our being a certain first-fruit of His creatures.
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲁϥ⳿ϫⲫⲟⲛ ϧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲡⲥⲁϫⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ϯⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲉⲑⲣⲉⲛϣⲱⲡⲓ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲁⲡⲁⲣⲭⲏ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲛⲉϥⲥⲱⲛⲧ.
19 So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger,
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲧⲉⲛⲥⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁ⳿ⲥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲙⲉⲛⲣⲁϯ ⲙⲁⲣⲉϥϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲇⲉ ⳿ⲛϫⲉ ⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉϥⲓⲏⲥ ⲉϥⲛⲁⲥⲱⲧⲉⲙ ⲉϥϩⲟⲣϣ ⲉϥⲛⲁⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲉϥ⳿ϩⲣⲟϣ ⲉϥⲛⲁϫⲱⲛⲧ.
20 for the wrath of a man does not work the righteousness of God;
ⲕ̅⳿ⲡϫⲱⲛⲧ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲫⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁϥⲉⲣϩⲱⲃ ⳿ⲉϯⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲫϯ.
21 for this reason, having put aside all filthiness and superabundance of evil, receive the implanted word in meekness, that is able to save your souls;
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲉⲑⲃⲉⲫⲁⲓ ⲭⲁ ⲑⲱⲗⲉⲃ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⳿ⲉ⳿ϧⲣⲏⲓ ⲛⲉⲙ ⳿ⲡϩⲟⲩ⳿ⲟ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ϯⲕⲁⲕⲓⲁ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉⲙⲣⲁⲩϣ ϣⲉⲡ ⲡⲓⲥⲁϫⲓ ⳿ⲉⲣⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⲉϥⲣⲏⲧ ⳿ⲙⲃⲉⲣⲓ ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⳿ϣϫⲟⲙ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⳿ⲉⲛⲟϩⲉⲙ ⳿ⲛⲛⲉⲧⲉⲛⲯⲩⲭⲏ.
22 and become doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves,
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛⲣⲉϥ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲣⲉϥϭⲓ⳿ⲥⲙⲏ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲧϥ ⲁⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲛⲉⲣϩⲁⲗ ⳿ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ ⳿ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲧⲉⲛ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ.
23 because, if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, this one has been like to a man viewing his natural face in a mirror,
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲫⲏⲉⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲣⲉϥϭⲓ⳿ⲥⲙⲏ ⲡⲉ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲓⲥⲁϫⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲣⲉϥⲉⲣϩⲱⲃ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲁϥⲟⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲓ ⳿ⲉⲁϥϯ⳿ⲛⲓⲁⲧϥ ⳿ⲙ⳿ⲡϩⲟ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉ ⲡⲉϥϫⲓⲛⲙⲓⲥⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲓⲁⲗ.
24 for he viewed himself, and has gone away, and immediately he forgot what kind of [man] he was;
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲁϥϯ⳿ⲛⲓⲁⲧϥ ⲅⲁⲣ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥϣⲉ ⲛⲁϥ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲥⲁⲧⲟⲧϥ ⲁϥⲉⲣ⳿ⲡⲱⲃϣ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓⲣⲏϯ ⳿ⲉⲛⲁϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
25 but he who looked into [the] perfect law—that of liberty, and continued there, not becoming a forgetful hearer, but a doer of work—this one will be blessed in his doing.
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲫⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲁϥⲥⲟⲙⲥ ⳿ⲥ⳿ⲫⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲉⲧϫⲏⲕ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⳿ⲛϯⲙⲉⲧⲣⲉⲙϩⲉ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲧⲉϥⲟϩⲓ ⳿ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ ⳿ⲙⲡⲁϥⲉⲣⲣⲉϥϭⲓ⳿ⲥⲙⲏ ⳿ⲛⲣⲉϥⲉⲣ⳿ⲡⲱⲃϣ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⳿ⲛⲣⲉϥ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲡⲓϩⲱⲃ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲉϥ⳿ⲉⲉⲣ ⲟⲩⲙⲁⲕⲁⲣⲓⲟⲥ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲉϥ⳿ⲓⲣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲙⲟϥ.
26 If anyone thinks to be religious among you, not bridling his tongue, but deceiving his heart, the religion of this one [is] vain;
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲫⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲑⲩⲙⲉⲩⲓ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲣⲉϥϣⲉⲙϣⲓ ⲡⲉ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϥϭⲓⲭⲁⲗⲓⲛⲟⲩⲥ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥⲗⲁⲥ ⲁⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲁϥⲉⲣϩⲁⲗ ⳿ⲙⲡⲉϥϩⲏⲧ ⲟⲩⲉⲫⲗⲏⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⳿ⲡϣⲉⲙϣⲓ ⳿ⲙⲫⲁⲓ.
27 religion pure and undefiled with the God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation—to keep himself unspotted from the world.
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲡⲓϣⲉⲙϣⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲑⲟⲩⲁⲃ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲛⲁⲧⲑⲱⲗⲉⲃ ϧⲁⲧⲉⲛ ⲫϯ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⳿ⲫⲓⲱⲧ ⲫⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⳿ⲉϫⲉⲙ⳿ⲡϣⲓⲛⲓ ⳿ⲛⲛⲓⲟⲣⲫⲁⲛⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲙ ⲛⲓⲭⲏⲣⲁ ⳿ⲛ⳿ϧⲣⲏⲓ ϧⲉⲛ ⲡⲟⲩϩⲟϫϩⲉϫ ⳿ⲉⲁⲣⲉϩ ⳿ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉϥⲟⲓ ⳿ⲛⲁⲧⲁϭ ⲛⲓ ⳿ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲁ ⲡⲓⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ
