James 2
1 My brothers, do not hold the faith of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ in favor by appearance,
Rakkaat veljeni, älkäät muodonkatsomisessa pitäkö uskoa kunnian Herran Jesuksen Kristuksen päälle.
2 for if there may come into your synagogue a man with gold ring, in radiant clothing, and there may also come in a poor man in vile clothing,
Sillä jos teidän seurakuntaanne tulis joku mies, kantain kultasormusta, ja kiiltävällä vaatteella puetettu; ja tulis myös köyhä ryysyllä,
3 and you may look on him bearing the radiant clothing, and may say to him, “You—sit here well,” and may say to the poor man, “You—stand there,” or, “Sit here under my footstool,”
Ja te katsoisitte sitä, joka kiiltävissä vaatteissa on, ja sanoisitte hänelle: istu tässä hyvästi; ja sille köyhälle sanoisitte: seiso sinä siellä, taikka istu tässä minun jaloissani:
4 you did not judge fully in yourselves, and became ill-reasoning judges.
Niin ette sitä oikein ajattele, vaan te tulette tuomariksi ja teette pahan eroituksen.
5 Listen, my beloved brothers, did God not choose the poor of this world, rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom that He promised to those loving Him?
Kuulkaat, rakkaat veljeni: eikö Jumala ole tämän maailman köyhiä valinnut, jotka uskossa rikkaat ja valtakunnan perilliset ovat, jonka hän lupasi niille, jotka häntä rakastavat?
6 But you dishonored the poor one. Do the rich not oppress you and themselves draw you to judgment-seats?
Mutta te olette häväisseet köyhän. Eikö rikkaat ole väkivaltaiset teitä polkemaan ja vetämään teitä oikeuden eteen?
7 Do they not themselves speak evil of the good Name having been called on you?
Eikö he pilkkaa sitä hyvää nimeä, josta te nimitetyt olette?
8 If, indeed, you fulfill royal law, according to the Writing: “You will love your neighbor as yourself,” you do well;
Jos te kuninkaallisen lain, Raamatun jälkeen, täytätte: rakasta lähimmäistäs niinkuin itsiäs, niin te hyvin teette.
9 but if you favor by appearance, you work sin, being convicted by the Law as transgressors;
Mutta jos te ihmisten muotoa katsotte, niin te syntiä teette ja rangaistaan lailta, niinkuin sen rikkojat.
10 for whoever will keep the whole Law, but will stumble in one [point], he has become guilty of all;
Sillä jos joku koko lain pitää, ja rikkoo yhdessä, hän on vikapää kaikissa.
11 for He who is saying, “You may not commit adultery,” also said, “You may not murder”; but if you will not commit adultery, but will commit murder, you have become a transgressor of law;
Sillä se, joka sanoi: ei sinun pidä huorin tekemän, hän on myös sanonut: ei sinun pidä tappaman. Jos et sinä huorin tee, mutta tapat, niin sinä olet lainrikkojaksi tullut.
12 thus, speak and so act as [one] about to be judged by a law of liberty,
Näin te puhukaat ja näin te tehkäät, niinkuin ne, jotka vapauden lain kautta pitää tuomittaman.
13 for the judgment without mercy [is] to him having not done mercy, and mercy exults over judgment.
Sillä armotoin tuomio pitää hänen päällensä tuleman, joka ei laupiutta tehnyt; ja laupius kehuu tuomiota vastaan.
14 What [is] the profit, my brothers, if anyone may speak of having faith, but he may not have works? Is that faith able to save him?
Mitä se auttaa, rakkaat veljeni, jos joku sanoo hänellänsä uskon olevan, ja ei hänellä kuitenkaan ole töitä? Taitaako usko hänen autuaaksi saattaa?
15 And if a brother or sister may be naked, and may be destitute of daily food,
Mutta jos veli taikka sisar alasti olis ja puuttuis jokapäiväistä ravintoa,
16 and anyone of you may say to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed, and be filled,” but may not give to them the things necessary for the body, what [is] the profit?
Jos joku teistä heille sanois: menkäät rauhassa, lämmittäkäät ja ravitkaat teitänne; ja ette kuitenkaan anna heille mitään ruumiin tarvetta: mitä se heitä auttais?
17 So also faith, if it may not have works, is dead by itself.
Näin myös usko, jos ei hänellä töitä ole, on kuollut itsessänsä.
18 But someone may say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without works, and I will show you my faith out of works.
Mutta sanokaan joku: sinulla on usko, ja minulla on työt: osoita minulle sinun uskos sinun töilläs, niin minäkin tahdon minun uskoni osoittaa minun töilläni.
19 You believe that God is one; you do well! The demons also believe—and shudder!
Sinä uskot, että yksi Jumala on, sen sinä oikein teet; perkeleet myös sen uskovat ja vapisevat.
20 And do you wish to know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is dead?
Mutta tahdotkos tietää, sinä turha ihminen, että usko ilman töitä kuollut on?
21 Was not our father Abraham considered righteous out of works, having brought up his son Isaac on the altar?
Eikö Abraham, meidän isämme, töiden kautta vanhurskautetuksi osoitettu, kuin hän poikansa Isaakin alttarille uhrasi?
22 Do you see that faith was working with his works, and faith was perfected out of the works?
Näetkös, että usko on myös vaikuttanut hänen töissänsä, ja että usko on töissä täydelliseksi tullut?
23 And the Writing was fulfilled that is saying, “And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned to him for righteousness”; and, “Friend of God” he was called.
Ja se Raamattu on täytetty, joka sanoo: Abraham uskoi Jumalan, ja se luettiin hänelle vanhurskaudeksi, ja hän kutsuttiin Jumalan ystäväksi.
24 You see, then, that man is considered righteous out of works, and not out of faith only;
Niin te siis näette, että ihminen töistä vanhurskautetuksi osoitetaan ja ei ainoastansa uskosta.
25 and in like manner also Rahab the prostitute—was she not considered righteous out of works, having received the messengers, and having sent [them] forth by another way?
Niin myös portto Rahab, eikö hän töiden kautta vanhurskautetuksi nähty, koska hän korjasi ne vakoojat ja toista tietä heidät päästi ulos?
26 For as the body apart from [the] spirit is dead, so also the faith apart from works is dead.
Sillä niinkuin ruumis ilman henkeä on kuollut, niin myös usko on ilman töitä kuollut.
