< Isaiah 6 >

1 In the year of the death of King Uzziah—I see the Lord, sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and His train is filling the temple.
In the year that king Uzziah died, I saw 'Adonay [Lord] sitting on a throne, high and lifted up; and his train filled the temple.
2 Seraphim are standing above it: each one has six wings; with two [each] covers its face, and with two [each] covers its feet, and with two [each] flies.
Above him stood the seraphim. Each one had six wings. With two he covered his face. With two he covered his feet. With two he flew.
3 And this one has called to that, and has said: “HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, [is] YHWH of Hosts, The fullness of all the earth [is] His glory!”
One called to another, and said, “More holy than the holiest holiness is Adonai Tzva'ot [Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies]! The whole earth is full of his kavod ·weighty glory·!”
4 And the posts of the thresholds are moved by the voice of him who is calling, and the house is full of smoke.
The foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
5 And I say, “Woe to me, for I have been silent, For I [am] a man of unclean lips, And I am dwelling in [the] midst of a people of unclean lips, Because the King, YHWH of Hosts, my eyes have seen.”
Then I said, “Woe is me! For I am undone, because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell among a people of unclean lips: for my eyes have seen the King, Adonai Tzva'ot [Yahweh Commander of heaven’s armies]!”
6 And one of the seraphim flees to me, and in his hand—a burning coal (with tongs he has taken [it] from off the altar),
Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar.
7 and he strikes against my mouth and says: “Behold, this has struck against your lips, And your iniquity is turned aside, And your sin is covered.”
He touched my mouth with it, and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; and your depravity (moral evil) is taken away, and your habitual sin ·missing the mark· forgiven.”
8 And I hear the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom do I send? And who goes for Us?” And I say, “Here I [am], send me.”
I sh'ma ·heard obeyed· the voice of 'Adonay [Lord], saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am. Send me!”
9 And He says, “Go, and you have said to this people, Hearing you hear, and you do not understand, And seeing you see, and you do not know.
He said, ‘Go, and tell this people, “You sh'ma ·hear obey· sh'ma ·hear obey· yet still don’t understand; and you indeed see, but don’t perceive.”
10 Declare the heart of this people fat, And declare its ears heavy, And declare its eyes dazzled, Lest it see with its eyes, And hear with its ears, and consider with its heart, And it has turned back, and has health.”
Make the heart of this people fat. Make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and sh'ma ·hear obey· with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn again, and be healed.’
11 And I say, “Until when, O Lord?” And He says, “Surely until cities have been ruined without inhabitant, And houses without man, And the ground is ruined—a desolation,
Then I said, “Lord, how long?” He answered, “Until cities are waste without inhabitant, and houses without man, and the land becomes utterly waste,
12 And YHWH has put man far off, And the forsaken part [is] great in the heart of the land.
And Adonai has removed men far away, and the forsaken places are many within the land.
13 And yet a tenth in it, and it has turned, And has been for a burning, As a teil-tree, and as an oak, that in falling, Has substance in them, The holy seed [is] its substance!”
If there is a tenth left in it, that also will in turn be consumed: as a terebinth, and as an oak, whose stock remains when they are felled; so the holy seed is its stock.”
