Isaiah 33
1 Woe, spoiler! And you not spoiled, And treacherous! And they did not deal treacherously with you, When you finish, O spoiler, you are spoiled, When you finish dealing treacherously, They deal treacherously with you.
Guai a te, che devasti e non sei stato devastato, che saccheggi e non sei stato saccheggiato: sarai devastato, quando avrai finito di devastare, ti saccheggeranno, quando avrai finito di saccheggiare.
2 O YHWH, favor us, We have waited for You, Be their arm, in the mornings, Indeed, our salvation in time of adversity.
Signore, pietà di noi, in te speriamo; sii il nostro braccio ogni mattina, nostra salvezza nel tempo dell'angoscia.
3 From the voice of a multitude peoples have fled, From Your exaltation nations have been scattered.
Al rumore della tua minaccia fuggono i popoli, quando ti levi si disperdono le nazioni.
4 And Your spoil has been gathered, A gathering of the caterpillar, As a running to and fro of locusts He is running on it.
Si ammucchia la preda come si ammucchiano le cavallette vi si precipita sopra come vi si precipitano le locuste.
5 YHWH is set on high, for He is dwelling on high, He filled Zion [with] judgment and righteousness,
Eccelso è il Signore poiché dimora lassù; egli riempie Sion di diritto e di giustizia.
6 And has been the steadfastness of your times, The strength of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge, Fear of YHWH—it [is] His treasure.
C'è sicurezza nelle sue leggi, ricchezze salutari sono sapienza e scienza; il timore di Dio è il suo tesoro.
7 Behold, “Their Ariel,” they have cried outside, Messengers of peace weep bitterly.
Ecco gli araldi gridano di fuori, i messaggeri di pace piangono amaramente.
8 Highways have been desolated, He who passes along the path has ceased, He has broken covenant, He has despised enemies, He has not esteemed a man.
Sono deserte le strade, non c'è chi passi per la via. Egli ha violato l'alleanza, ha respinto i testimoni, non si è curato di alcuno.
9 The land has mourned, languished, Lebanon has been confounded, Sharon has been withered as a wilderness, And Bashan and Carmel are shaking.
La terra è in lutto e piena di squallore, si scolora il Libano e intristisce; la pianura di Saron è simile a una steppa, brulli sono il Basan e il Carmelo.
10 Now I arise, says YHWH, Now I am exalted, now I am lifted up.
«Ora mi alzerò», dice il Signore, «ora mi innalzerò, ora mi esalterò.
11 You conceive chaff, you bear stubble; Your spirit—a fire [that] devours you.
Avete concepito fieno, partorirete paglia; il mio soffio vi divorerà come fuoco.
12 And peoples have been [as] burnings of lime, Thorns, as sweepings, they burn with fire.
I popoli saranno fornaci per calce, spini tagliati da bruciare nel fuoco.
13 Hear, you far off, that which I have done, And know, you near ones, My might.
Sentiranno i lontani quanto ho fatto, sapranno i vicini qual è la mia forza».
14 Sinners have been afraid in Zion, Trembling has seized the profane: Who dwells for us—consuming fire, Who dwells for us—burnings of the age?
Hanno paura in Sion i peccatori, lo spavento si è impadronito degli empi. «Chi di noi può abitare presso un fuoco divorante? Chi di noi può abitare tra fiamme perenni?».
15 Whoever is walking righteously, And is speaking uprightly, Kicking against gain of oppressions, Shaking his hands from taking hold on a bribe, Stopping his ear from hearing of blood, And shutting his eyes from looking on evil,
Chi cammina nella giustizia e parla con lealtà, chi rigetta un guadagno frutto di angherie, scuote le mani per non accettare regali, si tura gli orecchi per non udire fatti di sangue e chiude gli occhi per non vedere il male:
16 He inhabits high places, Strongholds of rock [are] his high tower, His bread has been given, his waters steadfast.
costui abiterà in alto, fortezze sulle rocce saranno il suo rifugio, gli sarà dato il pane, avrà l'acqua assicurata.
17 Your eyes see a king in his beauty, They see a far-off land.
I tuoi occhi vedranno un re nel suo splendore, contempleranno un paese sconfinato.
18 Your heart meditates [on] terror, Where [is] he who is counting? Where [is] he who is weighing? Where [is] he who is counting the towers?
Il tuo cuore si chiederà nei suoi terrori: «Dov'è colui che registra? Dov'è colui che pesa il denaro? Dov'è colui che ispeziona le torri?».
19 You do not see the strong people, A people deeper of lip than to be understood, Of a scorned tongue, there is no understanding.
Non vedrai più quel popolo straniero, popolo dal linguaggio oscuro, incomprensibile, dalla lingua barbara che non si capisce.
20 See Zion, the city of our meetings, Your eyes see Jerusalem—a quiet habitation, A tent not taken down, its pins are not removed forever, And none of its cords are broken.
Guarda Sion, la città delle nostre feste! I tuoi occhi vedranno Gerusalemme, dimora tranquilla, tenda che non sarà più rimossa, i suoi paletti non saranno divelti, nessuna delle sue cordicelle sarà strappata.
21 But YHWH [is] mighty for us there, A place of rivers—streams of broad sides, No ship with oars goes into it, And a mighty ship does not pass over it.
Poiché se là c'è un potente, noi abbiamo il Signore, al posto di fiumi e larghi canali; non ci passerà nave a remi né l'attraverserà naviglio più grosso. Sono allentate le sue corde, non tengono più l'albero diritto, non spiegano più le vele.
22 For YHWH, ours who is judging, YHWH our lawgiver, YHWH our King—He saves us.
Poiché il Signore è nostro giudice,
23 Your ropes have been left, They do not correctly strengthen their mast, They have not spread out a sail, Then a prey of much spoil has been apportioned, The lame have taken spoil.
il Signore è nostro legislatore, il Signore è nostro re; egli ci salverà. Allora anche i ciechi divideranno una preda enorme gli zoppi faranno un ricco bottino.
24 Nor does an inhabitant say, “I was sick”; The people dwelling in it [are] forgiven of [their] iniquity!
Nessuno degli abitanti dirà: «Io sono malato»; il popolo che vi dimora è stato assolto dalle sue colpe.
