Isaiah 3
1 For behold, the Lord, YHWH of Hosts, Is turning aside from Jerusalem and from Judah [Both] stay and staff: Every stay of bread and every stay of water;
Ecco infatti, il Signore, Dio degli eserciti, toglie a Gerusalemme e a Giuda ogni genere di sostegno, ogni riserva di pane e ogni sostentamento d'acqua,
2 Mighty and man of war, judge and prophet, And diviner and elderly,
il prode e il guerriero, il giudice e il profeta, l'indovino e l'anziano,
3 Head of fifty, and accepted of faces, And counselor, and wise craftsmen, And discerning charmer.
il capo di una cinquantina e il notabile, il consigliere e il mago sapiente e l'esperto di incantesimi.
4 And I have made youths their heads, And sucklings rule over them.
Io metterò come loro capi ragazzi, monelli li domineranno.
5 And the people has exacted—man on man, Even a man on his neighbor, The youths enlarge themselves against the aged, And the lightly esteemed against the honored.
Il popolo userà violenza: l'uno contro l'altro, individuo contro individuo; il giovane tratterà con arroganza l'anziano, lo spregevole, il nobile.
6 When one lays hold on his brother, Of the house of his father, [by] the garment, “Come, you are a ruler to us, And this ruin [is] under your hand.”
Poiché uno afferra l'altro nella casa del padre: «Tu hai un mantello: sii nostro capo; prendi in mano questa rovina!».
7 He lifts up, in that day, saying, “I am not a binder up, And in my house is neither bread nor garment, You do not make me a ruler of the people.”
Ma quegli si alzerà in quel giorno per dire: «Non sono un medico; nella mia casa non c'è pane né mantello; non mi ponete a capo del popolo!».
8 For Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, For their tongue and their doings [are] against YHWH, To provoke the eyes of His glory.
Certo, Gerusalemme va in rovina e Giuda crolla, perché la loro lingua e le loro opere sono contro il Signore, fino ad offendere la vista della sua maestà divina.
9 The appearance of their faces witnessed against them, And their sin, as Sodom, they declared, They have not hidden! Woe to their soul, For they have done evil to themselves.
La loro parzialità verso le persone li condanna ed essi ostentano il peccato come Sòdoma: non lo nascondono neppure; disgraziati! Si preparano il male da se stessi.
10 Say to the righteous that [it is] good, Because they eat the fruit of their doings.
Beato il giusto, perché egli avrà bene, mangerà il frutto delle sue opere.
11 Woe to the wicked—evil, Because the deed of his hand is done to him.
Guai all'empio! Lo colpirà la sventura, secondo i misfatti delle sue mani avrà la mercede.
12 My people—its exactors [are] sucklings, And women have ruled over it. My people—your eulogists are causing to err, And the way of your paths swallowed up.
Il mio popolo! Un fanciullo lo tiranneggia e le donne lo dominano. Popolo mio, le tue guide ti traviano, distruggono la strada che tu percorri.
13 YHWH has stood up to plead, And He is standing to judge the peoples.
Il Signore appare per muovere causa, egli si presenta per giudicare il suo popolo.
14 YHWH enters into judgment With [the] elderly of His people, and its heads: “And you, you have consumed the vineyard, Plunder of the poor [is] in your houses.
Il Signore inizia il giudizio con gli anziani e i capi del suo popolo: «Voi avete devastato la vigna; le cose tolte ai poveri sono nelle vostre case.
15 Why? Why do you [do this]? You bruise My people, And you grind the faces of the poor.” A declaration of the Lord, YHWH of Hosts, And YHWH says:
Qual diritto avete di opprimere il mio popolo, di pestare la faccia ai poveri?». Oracolo del Signore, Signore degli eserciti.
16 “Because that daughters of Zion have been haughty, And they walk stretching out the neck, And deceiving [with] the eyes, They go walking and mincing, And they make a jingling with their feet,
Dice il Signore: «Poiché si sono insuperbite le figlie di Sion e procedono a collo teso, ammiccando con gli occhi, e camminano a piccoli passi facendo tintinnare gli anelli ai piedi,
17 The Lord has also scabbed The crown of the head of daughters of Zion, And YHWH exposes their simplicity.
perciò il Signore renderà tignoso il cranio delle figlie di Sion, il Signore denuderà le loro tempie».
18 In that day the Lord turns aside The beauty of the jingling ornaments, And of the embroidered works, And of the crescents,
In quel giorno il Signore toglierà l'ornamento di fibbie, fermagli e lunette,
19 Of the pendants, and the bracelets, and the veils,
orecchini, braccialetti, veli,
20 Of the headdresses, and the ornaments of the legs, And of the bands, And of the perfume boxes, and the amulets,
bende, catenine ai piedi, cinture, boccette di profumi, amuleti,
21 Of the seals, and of the nose-rings,
anelli, pendenti al naso,
22 Of the costly apparel, and of the mantles, And of the coverings, and of the purses,
vesti preziose e mantelline, scialli, borsette,
23 Of the mirrors, and of the linen garments, And of the hoods, and of the veils,
specchi, tuniche, cappelli e vestaglie.
24 And it has been, instead of spice is muck, And instead of a girdle, a rope, And instead of curled work, baldness, And instead of a stomacher a girdle of sackcloth.
Invece di profumo ci sarà marciume, invece di cintura una corda, invece di ricci calvizie, invece di vesti eleganti uno stretto sacco, invece di bellezza bruciatura.
25 For instead of glory, your men fall by sword, And your might in battle.
«I tuoi prodi cadranno di spada, i tuoi guerrieri in battaglia».
26 And her openings have lamented and mourned, Indeed, she has been emptied, she sits on the earth!”
Si alzeranno lamenti e gemiti alle tue porte e tu, disabitata, giacerai a terra.
