< Genesis 46 >
1 And Israel journeys, and all that he has, and comes to Beer-Sheba, and sacrifices sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac;
Profectusque Israel cum omnibus quae habebat, venit ad Puteum iuramenti. et mactatis ibi victimis Deo patris sui Isaac,
2 and God speaks to Israel in visions of the night and says, “Jacob, Jacob”; and he says, “Here I [am].”
audivit eum per visionem nocte vocantem se, et dicentem sibi: Iacob, Iacob. Cui respondit: Ecce adsum.
3 And He says, “I [am] God, God of your father, do not be afraid of going down to Egypt, for I set you there for a great nation;
Ait illi Deus: Ego sum fortissimus Deus patris tui: noli timere, descende in Aegyptum, quia in gentem magnam faciam te ibi.
4 I go down with you to Egypt, and I also certainly bring you up, and Joseph puts his hand on your eyes.”
Ego descendam tecum illuc, et ego inde adducam te revertentem: Ioseph quoque ponet manus suas super oculos tuos.
5 And Jacob rises from Beer-Sheba, and the sons of Israel carry away their father Jacob, and their infants, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh has sent to carry him,
Surrexit autem Iacob a Puteo iuramenti: tuleruntque eum filii cum parvulis et uxoribus suis in plaustris quae miserat Pharao ad portandum senem,
6 and they take their livestock, and their goods which they have acquired in the land of Canaan, and come into Egypt—Jacob, and all his seed with him,
et omnia quae possederat in Terra Chanaan: venitque in Aegyptum cum omni semine suo,
7 his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, indeed, all his seed he brought with him into Egypt.
filii eius, et nepotes, filiae, et cuncta simul progenies.
8 And these [are] the names of the sons of Israel who are coming into Egypt: Jacob and his sons, Jacob’s firstborn, Reuben.
Haec sunt autem nomina filiorum Israel, qui ingressi sunt in Aegyptum, ipse cum liberis suis. Primogenitus Ruben.
9 And sons of Reuben: Enoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.
Filii Ruben: Henoch et Phallu et Hesron et Charmi.
10 And sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul son of the Canaanite.
Filii Simeon: Iamuel et Iamin et Ahod, et Iachin et Sohar, et Saul filius Chanaanitidis.
11 And sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
Filii Levi: Gerson et Caath et Merari.
12 And sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Perez, and Zerah (and Er and Onan die in the land of Canaan). And sons of Perez are Hezron and Hamul.
Filii Iuda: Her et Onan et Sela et Phares et Zara. mortui sunt autem Her et Onan in terra Chanaan. Natique sunt filii Phares: Hesron et Hamul.
13 And sons of Issachar: Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.
Filii Issachar: Thola et Phua et Iob et Semron.
14 And sons of Zebulun: Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.
Filii Zabulon: Sared et Elon et Iahelel.
15 These [are] sons of Leah whom she bore to Jacob in Padan-Aram, and his daughter Dinah; all the persons of his sons and his daughters [are] thirty-three.
Hi filii Lia quos genuit in Mesopotamia Syriae cum Dina filia sua. omnes animae filiorum eius et filiarum, triginta tres.
16 And sons of Gad: Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.
Filii Gad: Sephion et Haggi et Suni et Esebon et Heri et Arodi et Areli.
17 And sons of Asher: Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and their sister Serah. And sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
Filii Aser: Iamne et Iesua et Iessui et Beria, Sara quoque soror eorum. Filii Beria: Heber et Melchiel.
18 These [are] sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah, and she bears these to Jacob—sixteen persons.
hi filii Zelphae, quam dedit Laban Liae filiae suae. et hos genuit Iacob sedecim animas.
19 Sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin.
Filii Rachel uxoris Iacob: Ioseph et Beniamin.
20 And born to Joseph in the land of Egypt (whom Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, has borne to him) [are] Manasseh and Ephraim.
Natique sunt Ioseph filii in Terra Aegypti, quos genuit ei Aseneth filia Phutipharis sacerdotis Heliopoleos: Manasses et Ephraim.
21 And sons of Benjamin: Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.
Filii Beniamin: Bela et Bechor et Asbel et Gera et Naaman et Echi et Ros et Mophim et Ophim et Ared.
22 These [are] sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; all the persons [are] fourteen.
hi filii Rachel quos genuit Iacob: omnes animae, quattuordecim.
23 And sons of Dan: Hushim.
Filii Dan: Husim.
24 And sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.
Filii Nephthali: Iasiel et Guni et Ieser et Sallem.
25 These [are] sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel; and she bears these to Jacob—all the persons [are] seven.
Hi filii Balae, quam dedit Laban Racheli filiae suae: et hos genuit Iacob: omnes animae, septem.
26 All the persons who are coming to Jacob to Egypt, coming out of his thigh, apart from the wives of Jacob’s sons, all the persons [are] sixty-six.
Cunctae animae, quae ingressae sunt cum Iacob in Aegyptum, et egressae sunt de femore illius, absque uxoribus filiorum eius, sexaginta sex.
27 And the sons of Joseph who have been born to him in Egypt [are] two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who are coming into Egypt [are] seventy.
Filii autem Ioseph, qui nati sunt ei in terra Aegypti, animae duae. Omnes animae domus Iacob, quae ingressae sunt in Aegyptum, fuere septuaginta.
28 And Judah he has sent before him to Joseph, to direct before him to Goshen, and they come into the land of Goshen;
Misit autem Iudam ante se ad Ioseph, ut nunciaret ei, et occurreret in Gessen.
29 and Joseph harnesses his chariot, and goes up to meet his father Israel, to Goshen, and appears to him, and falls on his neck, and weeps on his neck again;
Quo cum pervenisset, iuncto Ioseph curro suo, ascendit obviam patri suo ad eumdem locum: vidensque eum, irruit super collum eius, et inter amplexus flevit.
30 and Israel says to Joseph, “Let me die this time, after my seeing your face, for you [are] yet alive.”
Dixitque pater ad Ioseph: Iam laetus moriar, quia vidi faciem tuam, et superstitem te relinquo.
31 And Joseph says to his brothers, and to the house of his father, “I go up, and declare to Pharaoh, and say to him, My brothers, and the house of my father who [are] in the land of Canaan have come to me;
At ille locutus est ad fratres suos, et ad omnem domum patris sui: Ascendam, et nunciabo Pharaoni dicamque ei: Fratres mei, et domus patris mei, qui erant in Terra Chanaan, venerunt ad me:
32 and the men [are] feeders of a flock, for they have been men of livestock; and their flock, and their herd, and all that they have, they have brought.
et sunt viri pastores ovium, curamque habent alendorum gregum: pecora sua, et armenta, et omnia quae habere potuerunt, adduxerunt secum.
33 And it has come to pass, when Pharaoh calls for you and has said, What [are] your works?
Cumque vocaverit vos, et dixerit: Quod est opus vestrum?
34 That you have said, Your servants have been men of livestock from our youth, even until now, both we and our fathers, in order that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for the abomination of the Egyptians is everyone feeding a flock.”
Respondebitis: Viri pastores sumus servi tui, ab infantia nostra usque in praesens, et nos et patres nostri. Haec autem dicetis, ut habitare possitis in Terra Gessen: quia detestantur Aegyptii omnes pastores ovium.
