Genesis 46
1 And Israel journeys, and all that he has, and comes to Beer-Sheba, and sacrifices sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac;
| ויסע ישראל וכל אשר לו ויבא בארה שבע ויזבח זבחים לאלהי אביו יצחק׃ |
2 and God speaks to Israel in visions of the night and says, “Jacob, Jacob”; and he says, “Here I [am].”
| ויאמר אלהים לישראל במראת הלילה ויאמר יעקב יעקב ויאמר הנני׃ |
3 And He says, “I [am] God, God of your father, do not be afraid of going down to Egypt, for I set you there for a great nation;
| ויאמר אנכי האל אלהי אביך אל תירא מרדה מצרימה כי לגוי גדול אשימך שם׃ |
4 I go down with you to Egypt, and I also certainly bring you up, and Joseph puts his hand on your eyes.”
| אנכי ארד עמך מצרימה ואנכי אעלך גם עלה ויוסף ישית ידו על עיניך׃ |
5 And Jacob rises from Beer-Sheba, and the sons of Israel carry away their father Jacob, and their infants, and their wives, in the wagons which Pharaoh has sent to carry him,
| ויקם יעקב מבאר שבע וישאו בני ישראל את יעקב אביהם ואת טפם ואת נשיהם בעגלות אשר שלח פרעה לשאת אתו׃ |
6 and they take their livestock, and their goods which they have acquired in the land of Canaan, and come into Egypt—Jacob, and all his seed with him,
| ויקחו את מקניהם ואת רכושם אשר רכשו בארץ כנען ויבאו מצרימה יעקב וכל זרעו אתו׃ |
7 his sons, and his sons’ sons with him, his daughters, and his sons’ daughters, indeed, all his seed he brought with him into Egypt.
| בניו ובני בניו אתו בנתיו ובנות בניו וכל זרעו הביא אתו מצרימה׃ |
8 And these [are] the names of the sons of Israel who are coming into Egypt: Jacob and his sons, Jacob’s firstborn, Reuben.
| ואלה שמות בני ישראל הבאים מצרימה יעקב ובניו בכר יעקב ראובן׃ |
9 And sons of Reuben: Enoch, and Phallu, and Hezron, and Carmi.
| ובני ראובן חנוך ופלוא וחצרון וכרמי׃ |
10 And sons of Simeon: Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul son of the Canaanite.
| ובני שמעון ימואל וימין ואהד ויכין וצחר ושאול בן הכנענית׃ |
11 And sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.
| ובני לוי גרשון קהת ומררי׃ |
12 And sons of Judah: Er, and Onan, and Shelah, and Perez, and Zerah (and Er and Onan die in the land of Canaan). And sons of Perez are Hezron and Hamul.
| ובני יהודה ער ואונן ושלה ופרץ וזרח וימת ער ואונן בארץ כנען ויהיו בני פרץ חצרון וחמול׃ |
13 And sons of Issachar: Tola, and Phuvah, and Job, and Shimron.
| ובני יששכר תולע ופוה ויוב ושמרון׃ |
14 And sons of Zebulun: Sered, and Elon, and Jahleel.
| ובני זבולן סרד ואלון ויחלאל׃ |
15 These [are] sons of Leah whom she bore to Jacob in Padan-Aram, and his daughter Dinah; all the persons of his sons and his daughters [are] thirty-three.
| אלה בני לאה אשר ילדה ליעקב בפדן ארם ואת דינה בתו כל נפש בניו ובנותיו שלשים ושלש׃ |
16 And sons of Gad: Ziphion, and Haggi, Shuni, and Ezbon, Eri, and Arodi, and Areli.
| ובני גד צפיון וחגי שוני ואצבן ערי וארודי ואראלי׃ |
17 And sons of Asher: Jimnah, and Ishuah, and Isui, and Beriah, and their sister Serah. And sons of Beriah: Heber and Malchiel.
| ובני אשר ימנה וישוה וישוי ובריעה ושרח אחתם ובני בריעה חבר ומלכיאל׃ |
18 These [are] sons of Zilpah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Leah, and she bears these to Jacob—sixteen persons.
| אלה בני זלפה אשר נתן לבן ללאה בתו ותלד את אלה ליעקב שש עשרה נפש׃ |
19 Sons of Rachel, Jacob’s wife: Joseph and Benjamin.
| בני רחל אשת יעקב יוסף ובנימן׃ |
20 And born to Joseph in the land of Egypt (whom Asenath daughter of Poti-Pherah, priest of On, has borne to him) [are] Manasseh and Ephraim.
| ויולד ליוסף בארץ מצרים אשר ילדה לו אסנת בת פוטי פרע כהן אן את מנשה ואת אפרים׃ |
21 And sons of Benjamin: Belah, and Becher, and Ashbel, Gera, and Naaman, Ehi, and Rosh, Muppim, and Huppim, and Ard.
| ובני בנימן בלע ובכר ואשבל גרא ונעמן אחי וראש מפים וחפים וארד׃ |
22 These [are] sons of Rachel, who were born to Jacob; all the persons [are] fourteen.
| אלה בני רחל אשר ילד ליעקב כל נפש ארבעה עשר׃ |
23 And sons of Dan: Hushim.
| ובני דן חשים׃ |
24 And sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem.
| ובני נפתלי יחצאל וגוני ויצר ושלם׃ |
25 These [are] sons of Bilhah, whom Laban gave to his daughter Rachel; and she bears these to Jacob—all the persons [are] seven.
| אלה בני בלהה אשר נתן לבן לרחל בתו ותלד את אלה ליעקב כל נפש שבעה׃ |
26 All the persons who are coming to Jacob to Egypt, coming out of his thigh, apart from the wives of Jacob’s sons, all the persons [are] sixty-six.
| כל הנפש הבאה ליעקב מצרימה יצאי ירכו מלבד נשי בני יעקב כל נפש ששים ושש׃ |
27 And the sons of Joseph who have been born to him in Egypt [are] two persons. All the persons of the house of Jacob who are coming into Egypt [are] seventy.
| ובני יוסף אשר ילד לו במצרים נפש שנים כל הנפש לבית יעקב הבאה מצרימה שבעים׃ |
28 And Judah he has sent before him to Joseph, to direct before him to Goshen, and they come into the land of Goshen;
| ואת יהודה שלח לפניו אל יוסף להורת לפניו גשנה ויבאו ארצה גשן׃ |
29 and Joseph harnesses his chariot, and goes up to meet his father Israel, to Goshen, and appears to him, and falls on his neck, and weeps on his neck again;
| ויאסר יוסף מרכבתו ויעל לקראת ישראל אביו גשנה וירא אליו ויפל על צואריו ויבך על צואריו עוד׃ |
30 and Israel says to Joseph, “Let me die this time, after my seeing your face, for you [are] yet alive.”
| ויאמר ישראל אל יוסף אמותה הפעם אחרי ראותי את פניך כי עודך חי׃ |
31 And Joseph says to his brothers, and to the house of his father, “I go up, and declare to Pharaoh, and say to him, My brothers, and the house of my father who [are] in the land of Canaan have come to me;
| ויאמר יוסף אל אחיו ואל בית אביו אעלה ואגידה לפרעה ואמרה אליו אחי ובית אבי אשר בארץ כנען באו אלי׃ |
32 and the men [are] feeders of a flock, for they have been men of livestock; and their flock, and their herd, and all that they have, they have brought.
| והאנשים רעי צאן כי אנשי מקנה היו וצאנם ובקרם וכל אשר להם הביאו׃ |
33 And it has come to pass, when Pharaoh calls for you and has said, What [are] your works?
| והיה כי יקרא לכם פרעה ואמר מה מעשיכם׃ |
34 That you have said, Your servants have been men of livestock from our youth, even until now, both we and our fathers, in order that you may dwell in the land of Goshen, for the abomination of the Egyptians is everyone feeding a flock.”
| ואמרתם אנשי מקנה היו עבדיך מנעורינו ועד עתה גם אנחנו גם אבתינו בעבור תשבו בארץ גשן כי תועבת מצרים כל רעה צאן׃ |
