Genesis 42
1 And Jacob sees that there is grain in Egypt, and Jacob says to his sons, “Why do you look at each other?”
Mutta koska Jakob näki olevan jyviä myydä Egyptissä, sanoi hän pojillensa: mitä te katselette toinen toisenne päälle?
2 He also says, “Behold, I have heard that there is grain in Egypt, go down there, and buy for us from there, and we live and do not die”;
Ja sanoi: katso, minä kuulen Egyptissä olevan jyviä; menkäät alas sinne, ja ostakaat meille sieltä, että me eläisimme, ja emme kuolisi.
3 and the ten brothers of Joseph go down to buy grain in Egypt,
Niin menivät kymmenen Josephin veljeä alas, ostamaan jyviä Egyptistä.
4 and Benjamin, Joseph’s brother, Jacob has not sent with his brothers, for he said, “Lest harm meet him.”
Mutta BenJaminia, Josephin veljeä, ei lähettänyt Jakob veljiensä kanssa; sillä hän sanoi: ettei hänelle vahinkoa tapahtuisi.
5 And the sons of Israel come to buy in the midst of those coming, for the famine has been in the land of Canaan,
Niin läksivät Israelin lapset matkaan (jyviä) ostamaan muiden seurassa; sillä nälkä oli Kanaanin maalla.
6 and Joseph is the ruler over the land, he who is selling to all the people of the land, and Joseph’s brothers come and bow themselves to him—face to the earth.
Mutta Joseph oli hallitsia maakunnassa, hän antoi myydä jyviä kaikelle maan kansalle. Niin tulivat Josephin veljet, ja kumarsivat maahan kasvoillensa hänen eteensä.
7 And Joseph sees his brothers, and discerns them, and makes himself strange to them, and speaks sharp things with them, and says to them, “From where have you come?” And they say, “From the land of Canaan—to buy food.”
Ja Joseph näki veljensä, ja tunsi heidät, ja teeskeli hänensä oudoksi heitä vastaan, ja puhui kovasti heidän kanssansa, ja sanoi heille: kusta te tulette? He vastasivat: Kanaanin maalta, ostamaan syötävää.
8 And Joseph discerns his brothers, but they have not discerned him,
Ja Joseph tunsi veljensä, vaan ei he häntä tunteneet.
9 and Joseph remembers the dreams which he dreamed of them and says to them, “You [are] spies; you have come to see the nakedness of the land.”
Niin Joseph muisti unensa, jotka hän oli nähnyt heistä; ja sanoi heille: te olette vakojat, ja olette tulleet katsomaan, kusta maa avojoin olis.
10 And they say to him, “No, my lord, but your servants have come to buy food;
He vastasivat häntä: ei minun herrani: mutta sinun palvelias ovat tulleet ostamaan jyviä.
11 we [are] all of us sons of one man, we [are] right men; your servants have not been spies”;
Me olemme kaikki yhden miehen pojat: me olemme vaat, eikä sinun palvelias ole ikänänsä olleet vakojat.
12 and he says to them, “No, but you have come to see the nakedness of the land”;
Hän sanoi heille: ei suinkaan, mutta te olette tulleet katsomaan, kusta maa avojoin olis.
13 and they say, “Your servants [are] twelve brothers; we [are] sons of one man in the land of Canaan, and behold, the young one [is] with our father today, and one is not.”
He sanoivat: me sinun palvelias olimme kaksitoistakymmentä veljestä, yhden miehen pojat Kanaanin maalla; ja katso, nuorin on nyt meidän isämme tykönä, mutta yksi ei ole sillen eleillä.
14 And Joseph says to them, “This [is] that which I have spoken to you, saying, You [are] spies,
Joseph sanoi heille: sepä se on, kuin minä olen teille puhunut, sanoen: vakojat te olette.
15 by this you are proved: [as] Pharaoh lives, if you go out from this—except by your young brother coming here;
Siinä teitä pitää koeteltaman. Niin totta kuin Pharao elää, ei teidän pidä täältä pääsemän, jollei teidän nuorin veljenne tule tänne.
16 send one of you, and let him bring your brother, and you, remain bound, and let your words be proved, whether truth be with you: and if not, [as] Pharaoh lives, surely you [are] spies”;
Lähettäkäät yksi teistänne, joka tuo teidän veljenne tänne: mutta teidän pitää vankina oleman, niin teidän puheenne koetellaan, jos teissä totuus on; mutta jollei, niin totta kuin Pharao elää, te olette vakojat.
17 and he gathers them into confinement [for] three days.
Niin hän pani heidät kiinni kolmeksi päiväksi.
18 And Joseph says to them on the third day, “Do this and live; I fear God!
Ja kolmantena päivänä sanoi Joseph heille: jos te tahdotte elää, niin tehkäät näin; sillä minä pelkään Jumalaa.
19 If you [are] right men, let one of your brothers be bound in the house of your confinement, and you, go, carry in grain [for] the famine of your houses,
Jos te olette vaat, niin antakaat yksi teidän veljistänne olla sidottuna teidän vankihuoneessanne; mutta menkäät te ja viekäät kotia, mitä te ostaneet olette nälkää vastaan kotonanne.
20 and you bring your young brother to me, and your words are established, and you do not die”; and they do so.
Ja tuokaat teidän nuorin veljenne minun tyköni, että teidän sananne todeksi löyttäisiin, ettette kuolisi; ja he tekivät niin.
21 And they say to one another, “Truly we [are] guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul, in his making supplication to us, and we did not listen: therefore this distress has come on us.”
Mutta he sanoivat toinen toisellensa: me olemme totisesti vianalaiset meidän veljemme tähden; sillä me näimme hänen sielunsa ahdistuksen, koska hän meiltä armoa rukoili, ja emme kuulleet häntä; sentähden on tämä ahdistus meidän päällemme tullut.
22 And Reuben answers them, saying, “Did I not speak to you, saying, Do not sin against the boy? And you did not listen; and his blood also, behold, it is required.”
Ruben vastasi heitä, sanoen: enkö minä puhunut teille, sanoen: älkäät tehkä vääryyttä nuorukaiselle, ja ette tahtoneet kuulla? Ja nyt hänen verensä meiltä vaaditaan.
23 And they have not known that Joseph understands, for the interpreter [is] between them;
Vaan ei he tietäneet Josephin sitä ymmärtävän; sillä hän puhui heille tulkin kautta.
24 and he turns around from them, and weeps, and turns back to them, and speaks to them, and takes Simeon from them, and binds him before their eyes.
Ja hän käänsi itsensä heistä, ja itki. Koska hän jällensä käänsi heidän puoleensa ja puhutteli heitä, otti hän Simeonin heiltä, ja sitoi hänen heidän nähtensä.
25 And Joseph commands, and they fill their vessels [with] grain, also to put back the money of each of them into his sack, and to give to them provision for the way; and one does to them so.
Ja Joseph käski heidän säkkinsä täytettää jyvillä, ja annettaa heidän rahansa jälleen itsekunkin omaan säkkiinsä, ja annettaa heille evästä matkalle; ja heille tehtiin niin.
26 And they lift up their grain on their donkeys, and go from there,
Ja he panivat kalunsa aaseinsa päälle, ja läksivät sieltä.
27 and the one opens his sack to give provender to his donkey at a lodging-place, and he sees his money, and behold, it [is] in the mouth of his bag,
Koska yksi heistä avasi säkkinsä, antaaksensa ruokaa aasillensa, ja äkkäsi rahansa säkkinsä suussa,
28 and he says to his brothers, “My money has been put back, and also, behold, in my bag”: and their heart goes out, and they tremble, to one another saying, “What [is] this God has done to us!”
Ja sanoi veljillensä: minulle on annettu minun rahani jällensä, katso, se on minun säkissäni. Niin heidän sydämensä vavahtui, ja hämmästyivät keskenänsä, sanoen: miksi on Jumala meille näin tehnyt?
29 And they come to their father Jacob, to the land of Canaan, and they declare to him all the things meeting them, saying,
Koska he tulivat isänsä Jakobin tykö Kanaanin maalle, ilmoittivat he hänelle kaikki, mitä heille tapahtunut oli, sanoen:
30 “The man, the lord of the land, has spoken with us sharp things, and makes us as spies of the land;
Se mies, sen maan herra, puhui kovasti meille, ja piti meitä maan vakojina.
31 and we say to him, We [are] right men, we have not been spies,
Ja me vastasimme häntä: me olemme vaat, emme ole ikänänsä oleet vakojat.
32 we [are] twelve brothers, sons of our father, one is not, and the young one [is] today with our father in the land of Canaan.
Me olimme kaksitoistakymmentä veljestä meidän isämme poikaa: yksi ei ole silleen eleissä, ja nuorin on nyt isämme tytkönä Kanaanin maalla.
33 And the man, the lord of the land, says to us, By this I know that you [are] right men—leave one of your brothers with me, and take [for] the famine of your houses and go,
Sanoi se mies, sen maan herra meille: siitä minä tunnen, jos te olette vaat: yksi teidän veljistänne jättäkäät minun tyköni, ja ottakaat teidän taloinne tarve, ja menkäät pois.
34 and bring your young brother to me, and I know that you [are] not spies, but you [are] right men; I give your brother to you, and you trade with the land.”
Ja tuokaat teidän nuorin veljenne minun tyköni, niin minä ymmärrän, ett'ette ole vakojat, vaan vaat; niin annan minä myös teidän veljenne jälleen, ja saatte tehdä kauppaa tässä maakunnassa.
35 And it comes to pass, they are emptying their sacks, and behold, the bundle of each man’s silver [is] in his sack, and they see their bundles of silver, they and their father, and are afraid;
Ja tapahtui, koska he tyhjensivät säkkejänsä, katso, oli itsekunkin rahakäärö hänen säkissänsä: ja kuin he näkivät rahakäärönsä, hämmästyivät he isänsä kanssa.
36 and their father Jacob says to them, “You have bereaved me; Joseph is not, and Simeon is not, and Benjamin you take—all these [things] have been against me.”
Niin sanoi Jakob heidän isänsä heille: te olette saattaneet minun lapsettomaksi: Joseph ei ole elävissä, eikä Simeon, Ja Benjaminin tahdotte te vielä viedä pois; minun kohtaani nämät kaikki tapahtuvat.
37 And Reuben speaks to his father, saying, “You put to death my two sons, if I do not bring him to you; give him into my hand, and I bring him back to you”;
Ruben vastasi isällensä, sanoen: tapa molemmat minun poikani, jollen minä häntä jälleen sinulle (kotia) tuo, ainoastansa anna häntä minun haltuuni, minä hänen sinulle jälleen (kotia) tuon.
38 and he says, “My son does not go down with you, for his brother [is] dead, and he by himself is left; when harm has met him in the way in which you go, then you have brought down my grey hairs in sorrow to Sheol.” (Sheol h7585)
Hän sanoi: ei minun poikani pidä menemän alas teidän kanssanne: sillä hänen veljensä on kuollut, ja hän on jäänyt yksin, ja jos hänelle tapahtuis jotakin pahaa tiellä, jota te vaellatte, niin te saatatte minun harmaat karvani murheella hautaan. (Sheol h7585)
