Genesis 4
1 And the man knew his wife Eve, and she conceives and bears Cain, and says, “I have acquired a man by YHWH”;
Adán se unió a su esposa Eva, y ella concibió. Dio a luz a Caín, y dijo: Adquirí un varón de parte de Yavé.
2 and she adds to bear his brother, even Abel. And Abel is feeding a flock, and Cain has been servant of the ground.
Volvió a dar a luz, a su hermano Abel. Abel fue pastor de ovejas, y Caín fue labrador de la tierra.
3 And it comes to pass at the end of days that Cain brings from the fruit of the ground a present to YHWH;
Con el transcurso del tiempo, sucedió que Caín llevó a Yavé una ofrenda del fruto de la tierra.
4 and Abel, he has brought, he also, from the female firstlings of his flock, and from their fat ones; and YHWH looks to Abel and to his present,
También Abel llevó de los primerizos de su rebaño y de los más gordos de ellos. Yavé miró con agrado a Abel y a su ofrenda,
5 and to Cain and to his present He has not looked; and it is very displeasing to Cain, and his countenance is fallen.
pero no miró con agrado a Caín ni la ofrenda suya. Y Caín se enfureció muchísimo, y decayó su semblante.
6 And YHWH says to Cain, “Why do you have displeasure? And why has your countenance fallen?
Entonces Yavé dijo a Caín: ¿Por qué te enfureciste, y por qué decayó tu semblante?
7 Is there not, if you do well, acceptance? And if you do not do well, sin [[or a sin-offering]] is lying at the opening, and its [[or His]] desire [is] for you, and you rule over it [[or by Him]].”
Si haces lo bueno, ¿no serás enaltecido? Pero si no haces lo bueno, el pecado acecha a la puerta. Su deseo ardiente va contra ti, pero tú debes dominarlo.
8 And Cain says to his brother Abel, [[“Let us go into the field”; ]] and it comes to pass in their being in the field, that Cain rises up against his brother Abel, and slays him.
Caín habló a su hermano Abel: Vayamos al campo. Y él fue. Pero sucedió que cuando estaban ellos en el campo, Caín se levantó contra su hermano Abel y lo asesinó.
9 And YHWH says to Cain, “Where [is] your brother Abel?” And he says, “I have not known; am I my brother’s keeper?”
Entonces Yavé preguntó a Caín: ¿Dónde está tu hermano Abel? Y él respondió: No sé. ¿Soy yo guardián de mi hermano?
10 And He says, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground;
Pero Él dijo: ¿Qué hiciste? ¡La voz de la sangre de tu hermano clama a Mí desde la tierra!
11 and now, cursed [are] you from the ground, which has opened her mouth to receive the blood of your brother from your hand;
Ahora, ¡maldito seas tú por la tierra que ensanchó su boca para recibir de tu mano la sangre de tu hermano!
12 when you till the ground, it will not add to give its strength to you—a wanderer, even a trembling one, you are in the earth.”
Cuando trabajes la tierra no te dará su fuerza. Errante y fugitivo serás en la tierra.
13 And Cain says to YHWH, “My punishment is too great than to bear;
Y Caín respondió a Yavé: ¡Grande es mi castigo para soportarlo!
14 behold, You have driven me today from off the face of the ground, and from Your face I am hid; and I have been a wanderer, even a trembling one, in the earth, and it has been—everyone finding me will slay me.”
Si me expulsas hoy de sobre la superficie de la tierra, estaré oculto de tu presencia. Seré errante y fugitivo en la tierra y sucederá que cualquiera que me encuentre, me asesinará.
15 And YHWH says to him, “Therefore, of any slayer of Cain it is required sevenfold”; and YHWH sets to Cain a token that none finding him will slay him.
Entonces Yavé le dijo: Ciertamente cualquiera que mate a Caín, siete veces será castigado. Y Yavé puso una señal a Caín a fin de que no lo asesinara cualquiera que lo encontrara.
16 And Cain goes out from before YHWH, and dwells in the land, moving about east of Eden;
Caín salió de la Presencia de Yavé y se estableció en la tierra de Nod, al oriente de Edén.
17 and Cain knows his wife, and she conceives, and bears Enoch; and he is building a city, and he calls the name of the city, according to the name of his son—Enoch.
Caín se unió a su esposa. Ella concibió y dio a luz a Enoc. Caín edificó una ciudad y le dio el nombre de su hijo Enoc.
18 And born to Enoch is Irad; and Irad has begotten Mehujael; and Mehujael has begotten Methusael; and Methusael has begotten Lamech.
A Enoc le nació Irad, e Irad engendró a Mejuyael, y Mejuyael engendró a Metusael, y Metusael engendró a Lamec.
19 And Lamech takes to himself two wives, the name of the first Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.
Lamec tomó para él dos esposas: el nombre de la primera era Ada, y el nombre de la segunda, Zila.
20 And Adah bears Jabal, he has been father of those inhabiting tents and [having] purchased livestock;
Ada dio a luz a Jabal, quien fue antepasado de los que habitan en tiendas y crían ganado.
21 and the name of his brother [is] Jubal, he has been father of everyone handling harp and pipe.
El nombre de su hermano era Jubal, quien fue antepasado de todos los que tocan arpa y flauta.
22 And Zillah, she also bears Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron; and a sister of Tubal-Cain [is] Naamah.
También Zila dio a luz a Tubal Caín, forjador de toda herramienta de bronce y de hierro. La hermana de Tubal Caín fue Naama.
23 And Lamech says to his wives: “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, give ear [to] my saying: For I have slain a man for my wound, Even a young man for my hurt;
Lamec dijo a sus esposas: Ada y Zila: ¡Escuchen mi voz! Esposas de Lamec, Presten oído a mi dicho: Que a un hombre maté porque me hirió, Y a un muchacho maté porque me golpeó.
24 For sevenfold is required for Cain, And for Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
Si siete veces es vengado Caín, 70 veces siete lo será Lamec.
25 And Adam again knows his wife, and she bears a son, and calls his name Seth, “for God has appointed for me another seed instead of Abel”: for Cain had slain him.
Adán se unió otra vez a su esposa. Ella dio a luz un hijo y lo llamó Set, porque pensó: ʼElohim me concedió otro descendiente en lugar de Abel, a quien Caín asesinó.
26 And to Seth, to him also a son has been born, and he calls his name Enos; then a beginning was made of preaching in the Name of YHWH.
A Set también le nació un hijo y lo llamó Enós. Entonces se comenzó a invocar el Nombre de Yavé.
