< Genesis 4 >

1 And the man knew his wife Eve, and she conceives and bears Cain, and says, “I have acquired a man by YHWH”;
Addaam niitii isaa Hewaan bira gaʼe; isheenis ulfooftee Qaayinin deesse. Isheenis, “Ani gargaarsa Waaqayyootiin ilma tokko argadheera” jette.
2 and she adds to bear his brother, even Abel. And Abel is feeding a flock, and Cain has been servant of the ground.
Itti aansitees obboleessa isaa Abeelin deesse. Abeel tiksee hoolotaa ture; Qaayin immoo lafa qota ture.
3 And it comes to pass at the end of days that Cain brings from the fruit of the ground a present to YHWH;
Yeroo muraasa keessatti Qaayin waan lafti baafteef keessaa Waaqayyoof aarsaa dhiʼeesse.
4 and Abel, he has brought, he also, from the female firstlings of his flock, and from their fat ones; and YHWH looks to Abel and to his present,
Abeel immoo hangafoota hoolota isaa keessaa cooma cooma isaa dhiʼeesse. Waaqayyo faara tolaadhaan gara Abeelii fi gara aarsaa inni dhiʼeesse sanaa ilaale.
5 and to Cain and to his present He has not looked; and it is very displeasing to Cain, and his countenance is fallen.
Gara Qaayinii fi gara aarsaa isaa garuu hin ilaalle. Kanaafuu Qaayin akka malee aaree fuulli isaa gurraachaʼe.
6 And YHWH says to Cain, “Why do you have displeasure? And why has your countenance fallen?
Waaqayyos Qaayiniin akkana jedhe; “Ati maaliif aarte? Fuulli kees maaliif gurraachaʼe?
7 Is there not, if you do well, acceptance? And if you do not do well, sin [[or a sin-offering]] is lying at the opening, and its [[or His]] desire [is] for you, and you rule over it [[or by Him]].”
Utuu waan qajeelaa hojjettee silaa ati fudhatama argatta mitii? Garuu yoo waan qajeelaa hojjechuu baatte cubbuun balbala kee duratti riphee si eeggata; si qabachuu barbaadas; ati garuu isa moʼachuu qabda.”
8 And Cain says to his brother Abel, [[“Let us go into the field”; ]] and it comes to pass in their being in the field, that Cain rises up against his brother Abel, and slays him.
Qaayinis ergasii obboleessa isaa Abeeliin, “Kottu mee dirreetti baanaa” jedhe. Utuma dirree irra jiranuus Qaayin obboleessa isaa Abeelitti kaʼee isa ajjeese.
9 And YHWH says to Cain, “Where [is] your brother Abel?” And he says, “I have not known; am I my brother’s keeper?”
Waaqayyos, “Obboleessi kee Abeel eessa jira?” jedhee Qaayin gaafate. Qaayin immoo, “Ani hin beeku; ani eegduu obboleessa kootiitii?” jedhee deebise.
10 And He says, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground;
Waaqayyo akkana jedhe; “Ati maal goote? Dhiigni obboleessa keetii lafaa natti iyyaa jira.
11 and now, cursed [are] you from the ground, which has opened her mouth to receive the blood of your brother from your hand;
Ati amma abaaramaa dha; lafa dhiiga obboleessa keetii si harkaa fudhachuuf afaan banatte irraas ni ariʼamta.
12 when you till the ground, it will not add to give its strength to you—a wanderer, even a trembling one, you are in the earth.”
Yeroo ati lafa qotattutti lafti deebitee midhaan siif hin kennitu. Ati lafa irratti joortuu boqonnaa hin qabne taata.”
13 And Cain says to YHWH, “My punishment is too great than to bear;
Qaayin immoo Waaqayyoon akkana jedhe; “Adabamuun koo waan ani baachuu dandaʼuun ol.
14 behold, You have driven me today from off the face of the ground, and from Your face I am hid; and I have been a wanderer, even a trembling one, in the earth, and it has been—everyone finding me will slay me.”
Kunoo ati harʼa biyyaa na ariʼaa jirta; anis fuula kee duraa nan dhokadha; lafa irratti joortuu boqonnaa hin qabne nan taʼa; namni na argatu kam iyyuus na ajjeesa.”
15 And YHWH says to him, “Therefore, of any slayer of Cain it is required sevenfold”; and YHWH sets to Cain a token that none finding him will slay him.
Waaqayyo garuu, “Akkana miti; namni Qaayinin ajjeesu kam iyyuu dachaa torba haaloo baafama” jedheen. Waaqayyos akka namni isa argatu tokko iyyuu isa hin ajjeefneef Qaayinitti mallattoo godhe.
16 And Cain goes out from before YHWH, and dwells in the land, moving about east of Eden;
Ergasiis Qaayin fuula Waaqayyoo duraa baʼee Eeden irraa karaa baʼa biiftuutiin biyya Noodi keessa jiraate.
17 and Cain knows his wife, and she conceives, and bears Enoch; and he is building a city, and he calls the name of the city, according to the name of his son—Enoch.
Qaayin niitii isaa beeke; isheenis ulfooftee Henookin deesse. Qaayinis magaalaa tokko hundeesse; magaalaa sanas Henook jedhee maqaa ilma isaatiin waame.
18 And born to Enoch is Irad; and Irad has begotten Mehujael; and Mehujael has begotten Methusael; and Methusael has begotten Lamech.
Henook Iiraadin dhalche; Iiraadi Meʼeelin dhalche; Mehuuyaaʼeel Matusaaʼelin dhalche; Matusaaʼel immoo Laamehin dhalche.
19 And Lamech takes to himself two wives, the name of the first Adah, and the name of the second Zillah.
Laameh dubartoota maqaan isaanii Aadaa fi Xiilaa jedhamu lamaan fuudhe.
20 And Adah bears Jabal, he has been father of those inhabiting tents and [having] purchased livestock;
Aadaan Yaabaalin deesse; Yaabaalis abbaa warra dunkaana keessa jiraatanii horii horsiisanii ture.
21 and the name of his brother [is] Jubal, he has been father of everyone handling harp and pipe.
Maqaan obboleessa isaa Yuubaal ture; inni immoo abbaa warra kiraara rukutaniitii fi ulullee afuufanii ti.
22 And Zillah, she also bears Tubal-Cain, an instructor of every craftsman in bronze and iron; and a sister of Tubal-Cain [is] Naamah.
Xiilaan immoo ilma Tuubaal Qaayin jedhamu kan naasii fi sibiila tumee meeshaawwan garaa garaa hojjetu deesse; obboleettiin Tuubaal Qaayinis Naʼamaa turte.
23 And Lamech says to his wives: “Adah and Zillah, hear my voice; Wives of Lamech, give ear [to] my saying: For I have slain a man for my wound, Even a young man for my hurt;
Laameh niitota isaatiin akkana jedhe; “Aadaa fi Xiilaan na dhagaʼaa; yaa niitota Laamehii dubbii koo dhaggeeffadhaa. Nama tokko waan inni na madeesseef, dargaggeessa tokko waan inni na miidheef ani isa ajjeeseera.
24 For sevenfold is required for Cain, And for Lamech seventy-sevenfold.”
Yoo Qaayiniif dachaa torba haaloon baafame Laamehiif immoo dachaa torbaatamii torba ni baafama.”
25 And Adam again knows his wife, and she bears a son, and calls his name Seth, “for God has appointed for me another seed instead of Abel”: for Cain had slain him.
Addaam ammas niitii isaa beeke; isheenis ilma deesse; maqaa isaas, “Erga Qaayin Abeelin ajjeesee as Waaqni iddoo Abeel daaʼima biraa naa kenneera” jettee “Seeti” jettee moggaafte.
26 And to Seth, to him also a son has been born, and he calls his name Enos; then a beginning was made of preaching in the Name of YHWH.
Seetiifis ilmi ni dhalate; innis Enoosh jedhee isa moggaase. Bara sana namoonni maqaa Waaqayyoo waammachuu jalqaban.
